But like I said, in those instances it then tends to be Milner who drops in to cover. The point is that they're well enough drilled that by and large someone's always covering and making it a three.

Not always sure they'll lose discipline particularly when really pushed in to the opposition box maybe but for 90% of open play.

Watch their shape next time they're on telly, they're really, really good at the moment and in top defensive form. A really good example for teams like us to imitate.

Obviously they've got two fairly mobile centre halves and better quality round the pitch but a lot of the same logic can be applied.

Agreed!

You also have to give Klopp credit for making players like Milner and Henderson look so good. Players who are very mediocre in terms of talent, but they they press so much and do their jobs so well that it get's their team going. Shows the value of having a system drilled into you, which is hopefully what happens to us as the season goes by. Honestly I'd rate Ndidi as better than any of Wijnaldum, Henderson or Milner, but Liverpool typically utilise their players so much better. (Though ironically, they weren't so good versus us).

Mind you it does help if you have a forward three as good as theirs! lol

Ndidi is not on the level of any of those players you have mentioned. Does them a massive disservice

My team for Saturday:

-------------------Schmeichel---------------------

--------Soyuncu----Evans----Maguire--------

Pereira------------------------------------Chilwell

-----------------Mendy----N'didi-----------------

----------------------Maddison--------------------

-------------Iheanacho--------Vardy-------------

I'd consider either Silva or Iborra for Mendy, but would try this first and see how they adapt.

Puel's likely team for Saturday:

-----------------Schmeichel----------------------

Amartey-----Evans-----Maguire----Chilwell

-----------------Mendy----N'didi-----------------

Pereira-----------Maddison---------Albrighton

-----------------------Vardy-------------------------

I think either will be enough to beat Huddersfield but I still think a switch of formation addresses the main issues we have been having.

Hahaha, I remember those days. Pearson, Walsh and Shakespeare may be struggling now but they certainly drilled home what every player needed to do. Obviously there was more than that, Kante and the league underestimating us when Vardy and Mahrez suddenly turned world class in particular, but well drilled players in a good formation can, and did, turn some very mediocre players into world beaters.

Puel had them in for a double training session Tuesday which hasn't gone down well with some players. Spoilt brats really but player power and all that.

Triple training sessions will do no good if Puel persists with a chronically slow CB pairing.

Any club that is at one point losing 4 nil to Bournemouth should be in for double training sessions all week.

Oh here we go again, player power.

I know it’s easier said than done getting rid of bad apples but you have thought with a summer transfer window under his belt Puel/the club on Puel’s recommendation or advice would have done something towards resolving the situation about player power...if indeed it has ever existed under Puel, of course it could simply be used as yet another excuse.

For those reasons and many reasons I gave last season I just can’t take the player power arguments seriously.

Good to see Puel shouldering the blame for Saturday's horror show, like he's said in the press. He's now making them train twice as much to rectify the mistakes he is making, when the solution could be to tweak the system that best suits this squad. The man is as stubborn as they come.

That said, the removal of the player power culture at our club is imperitive for him or the next man to succeed.

The training could be to do that? And yes I know he sets the team out to play etc, but that team isn't full of first time pros, Wes, Harry, Vardy etc have been around for a while if they see a glaring issue why the hell are they not bringing this up

If there’s any switch in formation, I’d expect a ****ing double session.

There's been a lot of talk about playing 3 at the back and that needs fine tuning. It's probably been our first real chance to play such a formation with the available players and sufficient time to deal with it on the training ground.

They have Wednesdays off anyway.

Many of the mistakes are down to poor individual play or positional play. Saying that's all his fault is OTT, why throw the baby out with the bath water if working on the positional play will sort the problem. Drilling the back four and the CM's is much needed at the minute so they work as they should.

Of course it's not all Puel's fault. The man has some good ideas and is a cut above from your average no mark like Allardyce or Pardew but he's got problems in this country at the way he's trying to operate and I'm not sure his methods are going to succeed with this current squad. He's had his chance to recruit as well in two windows and the majority of these signings appear to suggest 3-4-1-2 or a variation of that. He's shown very little interest in strengthening our attackers or wingers, likewise in central midfield. It's all been about defence and attacking full backs which is fine but play to their strengths then.

That is how I feel we should be lining up week in week out! With pereira and Chilwell boming up the wings and 1 of either ndidi and mendy joining the attack and the other holding further back to null any counter threats. With 3 at the back, counter attacks against us shoudnt be so potent

Why  this   bias against Allbrighton  who never lets us down as compared to many included in your  side

Just the thought of the addition,of also reading between the lines..

Damn good post!!

So easy to put all on the manager..with "he's responsible end-of"

In a rebuild..he and players has to work together, and iron out many characteristics, getting a new positional sense, even the need for trying the unknown.

What are players best positions,in the sense can they cover other areas.Formation-choices...

It amazes me how many posters, come up with their own "obvious" ideas, and corrections/opinions ,and every fan all "obviously" agree...

He has said,he has seen where problems lie,and rectifications are needed..Puel is no man's fool.

Using the owners statement...One should see he's going to be given along time, ups and downs, already in the program.

ok if it really implodes,..then how bad..?

Fans aren't looking at the big picture...and yes it becomes frustrating...having to take draws, against teams like Huddersfield,

which really  opens up the coconut-shy.....

Last season was the stage,to find who can help to take the club further ..Who can we bring up to first levels, not the finished product.!

So success firstly was from outside small...

I

#Maguire becomes a trusted future automatic choice..a new quality CB,but still learning and flexible

#Chilwell ,Gray, and Diabate,Choudry given the nod,the first 2 have took their growth further, the other 2 will also come on slowly.

# Fringe and our expensive buys were found wanting, and moved on

# Used a quality player who was always  going to leave,to get us safe and top 9.

#we were always short of an all out attacking midfielder...eventually we found Maddison, but this summer!!

#Silva and Iborra, were given games in their first season...no doors broken down, but also not failures. They still will have a big role to play..

Some very silly negative posts,on the further presence of these 2.

We have defensive frailities....they can be assesed, and solved,we have upped the quality of cover....and long-term investment.

I said,we will need 10-12 games to see how this season will flow, but in reality Puels revolution will run for awhile yet....

Weekly Puel-out campaigns are useless....These individual results,so long as points are gathered will not hinder, the planned

and expected development...

Claude Puel has confirmed that Jonny Evans and Çağlar Söyüncü are in contention to replace the suspended Wes Morgan in defence against Huddersfield Town.

- Leicester City face Huddersfield Town at King Power Stadium on Saturday (3pm BST kick-off)
- Claude Puel will have a mostly fit squad to choose from to face the Terriers
- Matty James (fitness) and Wes Morgan (suspended) will miss the visit of David Wagner's men
- Puel says it is a choice between Jonny Evans and Çağlar Söyüncü to replace suspended Morgan

The Foxes welcome David Wagner’s Terriers to King Power Stadium on Saturday, but they will be without their captain after he was sent off at AFC Bournemouth last weekend.

Either Evans, who made his debut in a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last month, or Söyüncü, who is back to full fitness after a slight injury, are likely to deputise for Morgan.

“They are in good fitness and I will take a decision,” Puel said on Thursday. “I am happy with the work of both. I think Jonny deserves to play, he is a very experienced player.”

On the topic of making changes, the Frenchman added that he will not make decisions based on last Saturday’s result, stressing that his selection will consist of players best equipped for Huddersfield.

The Foxes boss also provided an update on midfielder Matty James, who has been out with an Achilles injury this season.

He added: “We will see. The most important thing is to prepare this game against this team. It will be difficult to play against this team.

Just Matty James isn’t match fit, but all other players are available. [James] is resting after his surgery and we will see, step-by-step, when he can come back.

Claude Puel
“It will be a tough game and we need to be ready to play with a good tempo, patience, but it will be a good challenge to find a solution against this team.

“Just Matty James isn’t match fit, but all other players are available. [James] is resting after his surgery and we will see, step-by-step, when he can come back.

“We need patience because we want him to come back with a smile and not thinking about anything else but football.”

The type of side we need to beat to have a chance of Europa League qualification or better. The top sides (Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, etc) seem to have too much firepower for us to expect to take points from them, so we’ve got to capitalize when we have these sorts of matches.

Exactly! Like you say, the top  6 have too much for us so we should be aiming to win our 13 other home games and try and sneak a draw at home to the top 6. We definitely should not drop points at home to Huddersfield but if we defend like we did against Bournemouth then we could struggle!
