Agreed, we ended up with #YB29 at CB ? although Drinky was one of the better performers for the first part in my opinion

#HitmanBenalouane and Fuchs as our centre backs against Spurs was a bloody nightmare to watch! :sweating:

allowing Mendy/Ndidi/Choudhury (whoever plays as the other 2) to do what they do best...win the ball back. When we have this a midfield 3 will work the in the puel system and be more effective.

Great post, but Drinkwater was never good in a 3. Sarri has even been quoted saying Drinkwater is suited to a 2 man midfield, not a 3.

I’d love for the 3 man midfield to work but for that system I don’t think Drinkwater’s the answer.

He would however, improve the 4-2-3-1 formation massively in my opinion. We’d then be a right winger and another CF away from having a very strong side. Bring Drinkwater home!

It's a risk. We know what he's capable of and he's not been living up to it for over a season and a half now - injuries, lack of gametime, Chelsea lifestyle; he should be in his prime and we just can't tell if there's ought up with him injury wise.

So if we really are interested then prioritise a loan if it's for a reasonable fee or even an agreed future fee if he plays over a certain amount of games, give him a chance and get him in if he's up to the challange. If not, personally I'd look elsewhere for the money, give the scouts until the end of the season, pluck another young Lewis Cook type player up from the Champo or even Loftus-Cheek. Counter arguement to that would be that we lack experience given Mendy is the only mid in that category we want to play now Silva is defunct and Iborra is adios.

Interesting to know who's given the go also, Puel would've heard things from players and surely would've at least been consulted. You'd think he would have targets or the scouting team would've been up to more than looking at past players, even if they are title winning heros. Meh, but also hmmm

Not sure what he offers against a packed defence. Will be as sidewaysy as our other CMs.

Teams don’t park the bus for the entire game though. There are many opportunities in the game where we don’t even need a defence splitting pass, just a forward pass will do and chances will be created.

There are times when teams do get bodies forward. But when we defend that counter and win the ball back, Mendy and Ndidi aren’t getting the ball upfield quick enough. Put Drinkwater in that situation and the first thing on his mind would be to release Vardy or find a player in space.

I don’t see how he can be classed as a sideways passing merchant. A sideways passing merchant is someone like Eric Dier who can only give it 5 yards. Drinkwater is very direct with his passing and likes to play it forward which is what we are missing.

Agreed. His passing would definitely be great for Vardy - lost count of the number of balls he played to Vardy in the great season.

No way is this happening! Not under Puel anyway. He wants the old guard gone, not bought back.

That's not true.  Who is it, who consistently picks Old Man Morgan, especially at the start of the season when he was a walking (literally !) disaster ?  Who is it, who kept Simpson in our 25 man squad, when everyone said he was finished ?  Who is it, who regularly brings back Shinji into the team, when everyone else seems to realise he has lost what scoring ability he once had ?  He has stuck with Fuchs, when many thought Elder should be given chance as back up left back.  He kept King at the club, even though he wasn't in the squad.  All that smacks of a man who isn't desperate to get rid of the old guard !

And yet Tanner just gave Puel a load of s*** for not playing enough seniors to help the youngsters through

This manager is just flypaper for contradictory criticism!

For me the things that he should be criticised for he never is

Get him back.

Take Mendy out and put Drinky in and whichever formation we’re playing is instantly improved ten fold.

Get a grip. Mendy has for the most part been a solid player and arguably more consistently good than Ndidi.

Drinkwater will be unfit, still as injury prone and frankly wouldn't improve our midfield options substantially unless he finds his title-winning form again.

The latter is quite unlikely really.

Agreed. A lot of bias in terms of Ndidi/Mendy. Yes,we would all love to have our young Nigerian star in the making but reality Is, he's been poor. Mendy has been much better this year but people may not look to him as favourably as he had a shaky start.

Mendy and Ndidi don't work together, far too negative if we need to move with pace.

Load of bs

Ndidi is in the team to win the ball back and break up play.

guess what he has made 69 tackles

mendy 29

so one person is doing that job double as effectively as the other.

So what does Mendy offer that isn’t replaceable it isnt tackling and it is not passing the ball forward.
