I agree don't worry... He needs to leave this summer though. Given his age and longevity and to make as much money he can from the rest of his career then it would be best to leave now for a 2/3 year contract at a Championship club level like Kingy and Simpson did albeit kingy was loaned out to Huddersfield.

I can’t see anyone giving him a 3 year contract given his numerous injuries that’s why we can’t get rid of him.

His contract runs out in 2021. He will be let go next summer. I dont dislike the guy and I wish him well but his last 3 years here have been a waste of money.

He will be 30 when he leaves us so I'm interested to see what level he will play at.

He will get a short term contract somewhere or a pay as you play basis because of his terrible injury record I think

This is probably a stupid question but is he injured again ? Not even in the squad tonight

I think he is injured.

Unreal isn't it. Wish we could just get rid.

Spot on. How anybody can say he was better than Drinky is beyond me. Drinky was the best midfield player in the Championship & one of the best in the year we won the Prem.

The only reason he had a poor year in 14/15 was because pig-headed Pearson wouldn't pick him for some reason, despite the pathetic performances we were turning out throughout that winter.

...wasn't Cambiasso playing in his position in that season!!!

I have said it before but I suspect Pearson wanted to impress on Drinkwater how to run the game and stamping his authority on the team. Cambiasso was a good example of how to do this.

I said I was likely in the minority but I do believe King was a better player than Matty James. I have never rated him, my admiration if Andy King was probably more as a goalscoring midfielder in the early part of his career rather than when that dried up but the reasons I never rated James was he was the sort of midfielder who bores me. Not a defensive midfielder, nor a creative attacking midfielder. I probably under appreciate such players but not a player I'd have in my team at all. (I'd have 11 wingers personally)

Also strictly my opinion, Box to box midfielders who do everything tackle, defend, be involved in build up and provide assists are far superior to specialist '10s' or '6s'. Give me a De Bruyne over a Fernandes or a Makelele any day of the week.

I've not seen it mentioned that he's injured but he never seems to get included when anyone does the injury updates. Do they just assume we know he's injured.

Has anyone even seen him recently, club photos or training?

...the only problem is that you need "the water carriers" in your team!!!

Without them the players you admire can not do what they do without them, I can understand the appreciation of a De Bruyne but I also want to see a Wilf or a Makelele doing what they do at the highest level.

I genuinely forget that he's our player. I was going to use the phrase 'plays for us', but I thought that might be a stretch too far. Is there realistically much chance of him ever coming back to regular football? It feels like he's been away for such a long time.

Clive James has more chance of getting a game!

Think It's genuinely that point where Matty James needs to decide whether he wishes to continue playing and in which case drop down a division or two, or if he knows his body likely won't cope and take up some sort of coaching role.

Its true! He's almost not considered to be a full time player any more.

Still think its a damn shame and waste of talent.

Matty James is heading back to Barnsley on loan. The 29-year-old is returning from injury and is set for his second loan spell at Oakwell after playing 18 games for #BFC during the 2016-17 season following his return from a knee injury

Rob Tanner

That’s if he doesn’t chip a nail putting him out for the season
