That's despite losing Harry Maguire over the summer for a record-breaking fee and not signing a replacement. While Caglar Soyuncu deserves great credit for stepping in, the key player to Leicester's impressive record at both ends of the pitch is Wilfred Ndidi. The Nigeria international is, without question, the Premier League's best ball winner at present and has taken up the mantle in that regard from N'Golo Kante during the Frenchman's time at the King Power. While not necessarily directly comparable - the now Chelsea midfielder, even when at Leicester, charges forward more often in support of attacks - Ndidi has coped admirable with the thankless task of filling Kante's boots. His more attack-minded teammates are safe in the knowledge that their anchor in midfield is there to mop up should they get caught upfield. Playing James Maddison and Youri Tielemans in a midfield pairing would be impossible were it not for Ndidi's defensive work rate. His ability to regain possession also has an obvious impact on Leicester's record at the back, with no team having conceded fewer goals in the Premier League (eight). Ndidi ranks first in England's top-flight for interceptions this season (32) and second to teammate Ricardo Pereira for tackles (45). He has topped the charts for the latter in each of his previous two full seasons in the Premier League, and despite his incredibly high volume of tackles, Ndidi has never been suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards. This season so far the midfielder's WhoScored.com rating is at its highest in his career, with an average of 7.63 now enough to rank fifth in the top tier of English football.Such mature and measured performances from a player signed from the Belgian league at the age of just 20 have gone underappreciated outside of the King Power so far, and Foxes fans would no doubt love to keep it that way. Most may be surprised to realise that the Nigerian is still just 22 and, approaching three years a Premier League player, he is undoubtedly proven at this level. His compatriot and captain at international level John Obi Mikel will no doubt be an inspiration having reached the top of the game with Chelsea and in truth Ndidi is a better talent now than the former Blues midfielder ever was. He is destined for big things, that is for sure, but for the time being the youngster is the undervalued gem in this exciting Leicester side, and one of the most pivotal players for any side in the division. 4
StriderHiryu Posted 31 October 2019 Author Share Posted 31 October 2019 (edited) I think he would be in the overall Premier League team of the season as things stand. Other than his mistake against Chelsea he has been flawless and consistently excellent across many games now. Top player! Those stats confirm that he has improved as a player this season, which is obvious to all just by watching him. After a lull period under Puel, Rodgers has him back on the right track. Honestly he is one of the best defensive midfielders in world football in his current form. Edited 31 October 2019 by StriderHiryu

urban fox Posted 31 October 2019 Share Posted 31 October 2019 Like all the best holding/Dm players he goes about his business quietly, efficiently and without fuss whilst the majority of the attention is focused on the playmakers and forwards. Every successful team has someone at their heart who is the solid foundation that the rest can be built on. The only difference is Wilf is one of the best there is. It will be interesting at the end of the season to compare his stats with those of Kante, who is undisputedly (at the moment - watch this space) the best of best. Would not be surprised if he even out performs them. The mistake against Chelsea aside (for which he made amends with the equaliser) he has hardly put a foot wrong all season, putting in MOTM performances week in week out, in the same way that Neil Lennon and Kante did. fuchsntf Posted 31 October 2019 Share Posted 31 October 2019 Since Ndidi has put on a Leicester shirt ,he has delivered. Yes he has had the odd game, even periods where it hasnt ran as smoothly, as one would want. Its been a pleasure, watching this guy,go about his business week in week out.... Since Promotion we have seen some players come & go,some drift away without Really Making a mark, others moving after they had success with us... Ndidi us One of those potential talent players, that has grown und developed his Play with us....A mark, One can use as one of more often examples of Why Leicester are continual growing into a new era, which bids well for our clubs potential Top 6 future, for the Real First Time in our history..!!! Because our management/owners themselves had a Dream they have been clever in Not going OTT,with drastic spending, especially After being Burnt by Poor investment....Ndidi gives us the young, at the time still to be developed, with Bags of potential investment Success.. We are Balancing our acts out, with New found youth,Barnes,Choudhury,Lesbhela & bought-in developing youth, Soyuncu,Benkovic,Gray,Maddison,Tielemans, with various stages of using experienced players from within Vardy Shark,Schmeichel, with ones smartley gathered & found Periera,Evans ,Praet,Perez. Some others not mentioned at various stages of their Leicester careers, who have had and still might have future success with us...!! If at this time Next season,we have still have all the players like Ndidi,Barnes,Maddison,Tielemans,Choudhury,Soyuncu,Perez,Periera,etc... It will be Ndidi's further progress & Loyalty that will be the head of our Bbone of players.....Future captain???
Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 31 October 2019 Share Posted 31 October 2019 His use of possession has significantly improved this season. There's more zip and purpose to his passing and he finds his man more often than not. I'm certain Brendan has told him he can improve in this area and low and behold he has.
foxfanazer Posted 1 November 2019 Share Posted 1 November 2019 I love that Rodgers has picked out Wilf for special praise in his latest interview. Not one of the 3 leicester players nominated for player of the month but one of the most important players at the club imo

st albans fox Posted 2 November 2019 Share Posted 2 November 2019 Let’s not over do it re his ability on the ball ........ he has a fair way to go. He’s already close.
dmayne7 Posted 5 November 2019 Share Posted 5 November 2019 Words cannot express my love for this boy. His improvement under BR has been sensational. Not just on the ball but off it too. I used to think the tackling stats flattered him as often he lost out in 50/50's or didn't win the ball cleanly but this season he's been as close as ever to how Kante was. Seems such a nice lad too. Keeps this up, he's a £100m player.
