foxes_rule1978 Posted 9 November 2019 Posted 9 November 2019 He should not just get in the england 11, he should be one of the first names to be in the 11, I could argue he should be the first with what he provides. Imagine him, instead of Henderson, providing for sterling, sancho and kane... Southgate is a mug if he continues to not play him. This guy is world class without question, just sublime in the final third, every ball he plays is positive and he nails it.

urban fox Posted 9 November 2019 Posted 9 November 2019 He seems to have more bite to his game this season. Thought he was a bit of a show pony at times last year but has shown he can get stuck in and tackle back when needed. I am sure that this is something that Rodgers and the coaching team have drilled into him and it has made him an all round better player
kyleolly Posted 9 November 2019 Posted 9 November 2019 Bossed the game today just wish him and Pérez wouldn’t go down as easy as they do
Ric Flair Posted 9 November 2019 Posted 9 November 2019 End product, Rodgers is getting it from him. Barnes next and this team will be nigh on unstoppable.
TheSomersetFox Posted 9 November 2019 Posted 9 November 2019 Huge fan of how he's bought into Brendan's style of football off the ball as well. Works his bollocks off and he loves putting a shift in for the team. He cannot be ignored for England any more, he's got everything
urban fox Posted 9 November 2019 Posted 9 November 2019 Thought he came across as a really grounded young man in his interview post match on sky. Confident but not cocky, well spoken and quite eloquent in his answers. Really gave the impression that he is enjoying being part of what is happening at the club.

Isn’t off join Harry in Ole’s circus in January??
coolhandfox Posted 10 November 2019 Posted 10 November 2019 He could go right to the top, If he keeps developing forgot fighting off the likes of Man U, spurs etc. He could be in the sights of the likes of Barc and R Madrid. He's 22 far from his prime!

Not sure what else he has to do. Has proven he’s not just a playmaker but can play in central midfield too after Southgate said that’s why he can’t work his way into the team. His work rate has improved ten fold this season and maybe a criticism last season was that he didn’t turn up and contribute against the big boys. Goals against Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham this season and assist vs Chelsea. Add to this he’s a genuine threat from set pieces and long range he surely can’t be ignored any longer For such a talented player his work rate is excellent. Under Puel he was a No10 but BR plays him alongside Tielemans as two No8's. He still plays as a false No10 for want of a better phrase but you see him running back and helping the team form it's shape when we don't have possession. Hard work and doing the ugly side of the game when it's probably not natural to him is what separates good players from great players. We have a beautiful midfield three who compliment each other perfectly.
Tielemans63 Posted 10 November 2019 Posted 10 November 2019 Jamie Redknapp was right when he said that Madders is the number 10 who can play on the half turn whom England have been crying out for for a long, long time. I just hope that Southgate a) has the balls to pick him and b) has the wherewithal to let him play the way he does for us.

He firmly has his favourites in the starting 11, no doubt we’ll see Ross Barkley starting ahead of Maddison and probably replaced by Delph in the last half hour or so. If he could get away with it, Southgate would still have Lingard in the squad. Besides that niggle Maddison has come on leaps and bounds this season and is easily one of the best players in the League. Rodgers is getting a really good tune out of all the players at the minute and its a fantastic time to be a fan. I just hope it lasts.

pSinatra Posted 10 November 2019 Posted 10 November 2019 It's refreshing to hear a footballer that can string a sentence together & not appear like a rabbit in the headlights the minute a microphone is held to their face. I can't think of another footballer so comfortable in front of the camera. Sure, it's bordering on arrogance, but he told us more in those 5 minutes than we could ever learn from a string of footballers dishing out nothing but football cliches.
LCCFox96 Posted 10 November 2019 Posted 10 November 2019 Maddison showing his ability as a complete midfield player this season. Coming much deeper to get onto the ball and spreading the play, always available for a pass, working very well with Tielemans to instigate things going forwards, chipping in with 7 goals in all competitions already and showing a committed defensive work rate. Top stuff.
LC/FC Posted 10 November 2019 Posted 10 November 2019 The problem with Maddison last season under Puel was that in his first season ever in the Premier League, he was our only point of creativity in that side. Playing the double DM formation with Ndidi and Mendy left it mostly up to James to be the only creator of chances for us. Which tbf for a young lad in his first season is a lot to have shoulder. You shackle Maddison or keep him out of the game and Leicester were left passing sideways between Ndidi and Mendy. We started to play better overall when we signed Tielemans as it gave us another top creative player to halve Maddison's burden as well as adding a 2nd creative force that can makes passes and split lines. They dovetail so well. And now we also have Praet waiting in the wings...
st albans fox Posted 10 November 2019 Posted 10 November 2019 They asked torrierra to man mark him first part of the second half which probably led to the game becoming a bit more open as it took away their first half solidity with their rigid formation
coolhandfox Posted 10 November 2019 Posted 10 November 2019 Interesting that he's played deeper in recent games, often YT is further forward. Play consistently talk about him as playing as a 10, but he's just as affective as a 8!

He definitely is more selective in his shooting now for example, maybe that's just maturity or maybe it is the position. Either way he's doing brilliant, and like you say is now actually the deeper of the two playmakers, and results have been even better since.
mancunianfox Posted 10 November 2019 Posted 10 November 2019 Maddison has got a much better chance of getting in the England side under Southgate as an 8 but I do think it might be his best position too as he is getting better defensively. England aren’t playing a number 10 anytime soon and I am not sure if we will either.
Corky Posted 10 November 2019 Posted 10 November 2019 He has to be given a chance. 6 goals in all competitions, three of which have come at crucial times against the usual top six teams, plus a few assists. If he isn't given any game time in this spell, we can see he won't fit in under this manager.
