This. I do wonder how as an employee, as Brendan is, you can get away with justifying odd selections. Like all stats point to the fact that Nacho is a goal and assist machine. Surely someone higher up needs to hold Brendan to account? “What reasons (based on actual statistics and numbers) do you have for continually ignoring the K-Man?”

But that was playing around/behind Vardy when we had lost Barnes for the season. This time he's got KDH, Tielemans, Maddison & Ndidi in the middle of the park and I don't know which one of those you drop to accomodate him, Maybe if Tielemans goes its a natural transition but he's proved on several occasions he's not a lone striker and misses too many easy chances, think Old Trafford last season. He needs Vardy/Daka around him to occupy defenders and create the space.

When he first came and his confidence was high, I was particularly impressed with his finishing in Europe (4), he seemed to have that coldness about him all good strikers have. 

 

I understand that Rodgers wanted to introduce him slowly but he seemed to want to change him from his natural game at Salzburg into something else Rodgers wanted, he certainly isn't a back to goal hold the ball up sort of striker. His video clips seemed to show what he excelled at. I think a three of Vardy, Iheanacho and Daka worth a try for the reasons given but, can understand why you're uncertain about him, but I believe that he's yet another not being played to his strengths. 

 

Likewise, despite possibly other problems, Soumare, again young and new to the physicality and pace of the Premiership, also got bumped off his preferred and best game by Rodgers who again wanted something else instead from him. A lot to ask particularly when new.

 

Under didn't really get a sniff, Rodgers again wanted something else, someone who could defend? How would he have coped with Marhez?

 

Iheanacho, scores 12 goals in a short space of time, gets benched at the start of the new season and hardly plays. Again, doesn't fit the managers flawed philosophy.

 

JJ, Soyuncu, gone backwards, the latter also being asked to perform where not confident. 

 

Armarty, now extreme left of 3 centre backs, never played there before in his career here before, not even tried pre-season. Uncomfortable, can't do it, crowd on back like Soyuncu. 

 

Barnes? Praet?

 

Is there not a re-occurring theme somewhere here? Would it be a surprise if some players either lost a bit of confidence or, when not being picked lose interest and want a move.

 

Surely, if you pay good money because you admire the job a player does at another club, why buy him and straight away change his job? Just buy someone who excels in the job you want doing!

He’s the striker who will have 5 bad touches then whack one in when he has absolutely no right to.

 

I like Daka, he is very much a new Vardy but more limited. Vardy doesn’t suit our style of football. He makes it work with his movement. Daka doesn’t have that. 
 

Nacho over Daka all day long.

Daka can receive all the little passes he likes. The reality is he loses possession most of the time he receives a pass. Playing him and Vardy together doesn’t work. Way too similar, way too peripheral to general play.

Maybe, but it would be asking them to play slightly differently, with Nacho deeper and Daka and Vardy running in from wider positions

 

Probably pants, but we need some way to get more than Vardy or Daka (Or Nacho) up front on their own, we saw how we much more dangerous Maddison was playing wider (still not ideal) compared to his curious role beforehand.

Nacho over Daka all day long. 

Different types of players which is a good thing in that you in theory can have options even within the same game if a change is required. 

 

Arguably, we don't play a system which is advantageous to any of our strikers which is absolutely crazy, all are potentially top top scorers. Rodgers persists in playing a system or way that isn't commensurate with the players we have available all over the pitch but the striker situation illustrates it very well.

The way he performs having been slaughtered by the fans (myself included) in the past and treated by the last two managers (Demarai Gray being chosen in front of him by Puel, Rodgers giving him begrudging praise when he was virtually dragging us to the Cup Final and top 4) is seriously impressive. 

 

The lad has got real character.
