Train has been derailed in Aberdeenshire.

Very nasty crash involving a Scotrail HST train. Only 12 on board apparently but unconfirmed reports the driver is dead. Could have been a lot busier if it wasn't for Covid 19 and the Aberdeen lockdown. Reportedly train hit a landslide.

What a surprise.  Rushed through with insufficient testing, and no clarity over what it actually is.  Potential risks are massive.

Yep great isn’t it ...   two of the most powerful leaders on the planet ..   one nicks our research and pushes it through without proper tests ...   and the other says drink bleach.    God help us all !

As the NYT put it:

"A win by Marjorie Taylor Greene would be a headache for G.O.P. leaders since she supports QAnon, a fringe group pushing a pro-Trump conspiracy theory. Her opponent, John Cowan, is no less conservative, but does not believe in a “deep state” of child-molesting Satanist traitors."

So now we have a bona fide conspiracy nut in high office in the US (or will have, her election is pretty much a guarantee).

Nasty..:(

You'd imagine that these type of events wouldn't occur in 2020, with numerous health and safety legistrations you expect trains to go through..

Only heard this on radio this morning.

Didn't realise it was an HST.

3 confirmed dead now including the driver.

There hasn't been a derailment of an HST in years??

It will be the weather, no doubt about it.

These type of accidents aren't common.

The Scottish HST's are a lot shorter than the ones that serve Leicester. Only 4 carriages and 2 power cars as all the first class and buffet ones were removed. Rail safety has improved no end in recent years though so this is a rare thing.

I think it's probably to do with the landslips they've had. Terrible :(

Without these accidents we'd never develop ways to prevent them unfortunately, reactive rather than proactive. One thing we can't stop however is the weather.

I’m sure there must be a logical reason why.

It’s important questions like this where we miss @lifted*fox contribution on here.

So exam results.  Teachers saying results are worse or much worse than expected, but the % of each grade are all higher than last year.  So are teachers actually saying results are worse than the overstated ones they submitted?  What a mess.  Not sure there is a good answer here.

A third of A level results in England downgraded and 42%  in Wales,  so the Tutors who have worked with the students for 2 years know fcuk all and Scottish students are skipping all the way to university.

How on earth is that fair.

Exactly! Teachers have also spent 2/3 weeks (if not longer) earlier in lockdown spending each day deliberating each child's grade within their department, having to show proof and basic knowledge of each child's progress and ability to explain why they would get the teachers predicted grade. All of this after like you said teaching them for 2 years.

To completely disregard it is disgusting and shitting all over these kids futures. This year is a complete one off and they shouldn't be punished for it.

Downgraded from overstated estimates.  How would it be credible to have a sudden massive jump in grades?  What are universities supposed to do with that?  They would have to raise their entrance requirements, so no one is better off anyway.

And if the outcome of that process is massive grade inflation?  What do you do then?

A level results are a huge mess, took my brother to get his and the number of people in shock and crying is incredible. For instance, a friend of his achieved B's in coursework and mocks and was downgraded to a D
