Can we please refrain from calling the Prime Minister 'Boris' on this thread? I can't recall any Prime Minister or any politician for that matter in my lifetime being called by their first name.

I'm happy to call him a Johnson.

Yeah but implying we've all had some days off just cos we worked from home is very wide of the mark and quite insulting, really. Especially considering it was out of a lot of people's hands that it was the case, too.

I was wfh way before COVID anyway and while there's the social aspect of travelling to work which shouldn't be understated, in terms of productivity I can't see myself being that productive in an office again in this role.

I think if he comes out with that kind of stuff we can't just ignore the actual words he's said and the delivery of it. It's exactly the kind of thing that should be scrutinised. Why can't he just say things normally every now and then? Why does there have to be some quip or joke attached to it?

As for the social aspect, being in the workplace isn't the only way or place to socialise so it's not like it's exclusive to that.

As for @String fellow suggesting we all just watch footy on the TV just because we can, that's laughable. Not the same as going to work and if anything dumbs down far too much the experience of going to the game. A poor example or analogy, in my opinion.

I get that working from home isn't for everyone and socialising won't stop just because we are at home. If your workplace is sensible about it they'll try to be flexible with their staff to allow meeting with other colleagues or giving the option of office/workplace if the job allows. It'd be naive of them to make it just the one or the other if its shown that the work can be done at home just as well as it can from the office.

I know that going out to work is a very different experience to going to a game, having spent many years doing both, and very possibly a lot more of both than @StanSPNevertheless, in cases where these different activities have the possibility of being done locally (i.e. in person) or remotely (i.e. by the use of technology), then the analogy is perfectly valid. The dismissal of the analogy as 'laughable' is itself laughable, although I don't usually like to use such impolite expressions.

I was told about 3 weeks ...  but no one really knows how long they would last and be effective as they were designed to go from lab to arm very quickly.  Over 3 weeks and there is some doubt so rather than chance it they are binned.

Absolutely no need for people who have perfectly workable WFH arrangements who enjoy it to go back into the office. Why is it their individual duty to spend a fortune on commuting to buy overpriced crap from chains? You’d think the Tories would be praising the invisible hand of the free market.

I’ve been WFH since the first lockdown, and personally I can’t wait for some office time. Sounds weird but I enjoy a commute in the morning and walk to work off the bus to get my mind focussed for a Monday. I’ll likely be given the choice and I’ll probably do 3 days office and 2 at home. However my work mate had his daughter last January and has seen all the big events he’d otherwise had missed at work. We’ve been just as productive from home, why should he lose all that beneficial time with his daughter just to keep Pret and Maccy’s open?

This is an inevitable consequence of the advent of online shopping accelerated, the cats out the bag now so why try to artificially worsen the quality of life of workers and ordinary people to try and slow it down? It’s simply kicking the can down the road and I doubt it’ll do much to save town centres (and negatively affect productivity I imagine) to the chagrin of most.

Either way, I’m less convinced this is ‘saving Pret’ and more saving the exorbitant commercial rents and their beneficiaries, I imagine the Tory donors have been on the phone asking what their money is given for.

It may well be, but the two need not be at odds with each other.

This is what I can’t abide, facing shortages with countries butting heads on supply and the precious ones we have are turned down. Makes me fvcking seethe.

2000 doses binned is a disgrace and the people of Leicester should be utterly ashamed.

No, thanks. Too cold. I'm not that bloody committed to fitness.

But if you see a svelte, raven-haired quinquagenarian in a green jumper looking super-fit in the vicinity of the Victoria Park outdoor gym, pop over and say hello.

Very happy about this. I can now use the one on Victoria Park legally .  No more getting up at 5:30 am to beat the sun rise. I've done pretty well obeying the laws but will admit I've have broken this one.
