adejo92 Posted 2 November 2020 Posted 2 November 2020 I really dislike Leeds but I hate to say it, I feel a result against these will feel better than our result against Arsenal. 1
goose2010 Posted 2 November 2020 Posted 2 November 2020 I was honestly going to ask who the hell is Radrizzani?! then I see he is the Leeds owner. Makes you appreciate Top more and more each day. Could never imagine him coming out and saying 'Our brand is bigger than another team' Anyway on to the game. It will be tough Leeds are a decent team would take a point though keep us ticking over with a tough game coming up on Thursday. 2
Dorkingfox Posted 2 November 2020 Posted 2 November 2020 (edited) I do not have a problem with Leeds and many teams having delusions of grandeur, throughout history teams grow and shrink and rise again, Leeds were one of the old top 6 in the 70/80s but not anymore, they may get there again one day. adejo92 Posted 2 November 2020 Posted 2 November 2020 In fairness, on the Leeds forum, they are quite complimentary of our fan base and forum as a whole. 1

Injuries have crippled us though and it looks like the only way we will get something from the leeds game is if we play defensive. Such a shame. This time last year (Palace Away, Brighton Away, Southampton Away etc) we were unstoppable, used to go 'mid table' sides and completely take over, man city esc really. To be honest, if Evans plays which I think he will, I think we should have a pretty strong side tonight and shouldn't be citing injuries as an excuse. The midfield/attack is full strength apart from Mendy/Ndidi and that so far this season has gone Ok. And then little Wes for Soyuncu. Its only the two full backs where we are under strength so no excuses for me tonight. This will be a test of how good we ARE.
Christoph Posted 2 November 2020 Posted 2 November 2020 Leeds are doing cracking at the moment. Will accept a draw if need be. I think they're there to be sliced open but I think we might struggle to handle their counter attack. Especially if poor ole Wes has to play centre back again.

Leeds are a very good team, and Bielsa a world class coach. On paper lining up with 5 at the back against Leeds sounds cowardly but honestly on paper there are so many reasons to do it! Leeds commit many players forward and leave space in behind their full backs, which is asking to be exploited by Barnes, Vardy and Under. Fuchs was brought off at 60 minutes today suggesting he's going to be deployed again on Monday, though with Castagne out this could be to play as a regular Left Back rather than as a LCB. I think we will play something like this: Schmeichel Fofana Morgan/Evans Fuchs Albrighton TIelemans Mendy Maddison Justin Barnes Vardy I expect us to have low possession and see a lot of people complaining about us playing this way against Leeds. But if it works, it would be another masterclass. The only doubt I have about Rodgers going for this system is that he's a huge Bielsa fan and he might have the pride to want to "out-football" a Bielsa team. I'm not sure if the two have ever faced off against one another before so it might be a big moment for him. We are definitely capable of out playing Leeds, but now that we are playing twice a week and have loads of injuries and know that Leeds have lost against counter attacking teams, it makes sense to play that way against them IMO. We are literally missing our entire first choice back 4 currently and our first choice CDM which is going to limit what we can do. Strider hits the nail on the head again What you can’t afford to do against Leeds United is play a basketball match with them, if we go for that approach then we’d be playing a very dangerous game, it would end up being an exciting game full of goals; however if we were to lose playing that way, Rodgers would get lambasted for taking the wrong approach. Leeds top the distance covered chart for a reason, you try and play football with them, they’ll hunt you down, turn over possession and hit you on the break with 3 on 2, 4 on 3 situations because as you said yourself, they are so good at committing players forward. You have to go for a cautious approach against Leeds United, similar to how Wolves played against them, Wolves got their approach spot on. Wolves get labelled as boring but Nuno can play numerous systems effectively, we’ve seen over the past season or so, Wolves adopt a boring defensive approach and look to hit on the counter with Traore, Podence, Neto and have Jimenez as that focal point. A similar approach from us tonight could work a treat, a front three of Vardy, Barnes and Under could be absolutely perfect for this game, similar to Man City, once you break through Leeds’ midfield line their defence is there for the taking. 1

Fox92 Posted 2 November 2020 Posted 2 November 2020 Nerves kicking in already for probably the first time this season. 4 clubs I hate playing and Leeds are one of them. 1

Leeds were very late to the social media game and just being in the PL gets clubs unrivaled exposure and followers. They aren't watching championship matches in the far east and Africa, it's meaningless outside the UK. I would expect every club who has been in the PL for some time to utterly dwarf our followers. Ours are a majority actual fans with a few other vaguely interested parties making up the numbers. I'm sure it will go through the roof as the season unfolds.

Lil'Wes has been as impressive in his first few games as was Cags. Castagne is a huge loss as he was providing most of what we've been missing without Ricky P. However, our big issue is having to play 3 matches in 6 days with a bare bones squad. No more injuries tonight please
Vacamion Posted 2 November 2020 Posted 2 November 2020 Say what you like about Leeds fans, they have gone through the wringer over many many years. If you were in your early 20s when Howard Wilkinson's team won the division, you are in or approaching your 50s now. If you were in your early 20s when they dominated English football with their physical approach in the early 70s, you are approaching the twilight of your life. Their plaudits in the media might be carried away with their love of Bielsa, but their fans can't be accused of glory hunting. Good luck to them. Af least, after we've beaten them tonight. 1
fox_up_north Posted 2 November 2020 Posted 2 November 2020 I've no real problem with current Leeds but I can respect older fans who recall some of their antics. My grandad talks about old Leeds visits and fans in the same way he talks about old Millwall. So long as it's a decent game I'll be happy. Not expecting much out of it. Would snap your hand off for a point at the moment just to keep the momentum going. A bore 1-1 with no injuries would do me. Even a 0-0 with everyone walking off the pitch alive is a winner, at this point. 1
yorkie1999 Posted 2 November 2020 Posted 2 November 2020 I thought that how leeds took villa apart was pretty amazing and thought, they're gonna hammer us with our current injury list and key players out, but then after watching southampton do the same, maybe it's just that villa are shit and got lucky play us.
