I've actually been to Yosemite and seen El Capitan

One of the single most impressive natural wonders i have experienced... if offered the option of the grand canyon or Yosemite Valley.... Yosemite in a flash

How is Sterling only 26?  Felt like he has been around for forever!

Was playing most weeks for Liverpool at 17/18, so i guess he has. By contrast Kane, who's a year older was still being loaned out at that time. Also made his England debut at 17.

It's unbelievable how much restraint I've shown over the last twelve hours.

It would be more fun if you hadn't...

Nice pics, I made it up half dome myself back in 2012 (I attempted to visit again in 2019 but it was closed due to fires when I was there so ended up in Sequoia National Forest which was equally amazing) and cacked it on the up the cables due to not being comfortable with heights; ladders give me the shakes.  Incredible experience though and probably top of places I'd recommend for people to visit.

I got to the bottom of the cables in 2003 but they closed it due to high winds.  Bit of a bugger.  We also had a run in with a bear at the top of the steps.  My mate got there first and a bear grabbed his bag.  Sensibly he chased it screaming "drop the bag".  It worked.

The Black Bears - although hardly benign and accustomed to human contact in Yosemite are generally quite timid when challenged. Although any female bear is to be avoided when accompanied by cubs. Fortunately, there are no grizzlies in California.

It's the mountain lions that you need to be wary of in the wilds of the Sierras.

Carl Sagan, 1995:

"I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time — when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness.

"The dumbing down of America is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance."

Mwybe its just me but hasnt it been like that for a while in the States in terms on news?

I guess you could say the same thing in the UK in terms of the typical printed press as the The Sun has been most circulated newspaper every year for the past 40+ years (not including free newspapers). I read through a few times in the last 10 years when waiting for Chinese food and the trash /twist they put on things is worrying considering its mass following.

Entertaining news seems to trump insightful news sadly.

I think the September 11th attacks and the aftermath thereof was the real turning point for that tbh. What has happened since - particularly the events of 2016 and the rise of social media - has acted as an accelerator.

I still wouldn't have the advance of tech any other way because the alternative is inevitably worse, but it does make navigating to a "good" outcome in the future while maintaining a democratic system so much more difficult.

When Nigel Pearson walks into your gym….

Pearson is hugely popular with LCFC fans because of what he did for us in both spells.

The man is a Leicester City legend.

Who cares if his record elsewhere isn't so good?

We judge him on what he did for us.

And he was superb.

That's a balanced view and I don't disagree although we not nowhere near superb for us. Good, perhaps.

Those who proclaim him to be an excellent manager, and immune from criticism are the fools I take issue with.

The fact he's idolised above those who delivered us a premier league trophy and an FA cup trophy is very, very odd; especially considering the fact he headbutted a player, abused supporters and oversaw absolute scandal at this football club (which included his son).

I'd love to know what he has on you lot!

I think Will Smith is possibly my most favourite person on the planet.

Hard to put into words why, but everything about him oozes class, humility, and authenticity, which is rare in someone so rich and famous.

It wasn't all plain sailing though was it? Got a vague recollection that he was picked on by some troublemaking ne'er-do-wells and was dispatched to a different part of the country to live with his extended family.

Took us over at our lowest ever position - won the League One title at a canter.

Next season - got us into the Championship play offs, only denied Wembley by pens.

--- Huge progress, gave us all hope again

Came back after the Sousa/Sven disasters - rooted out the trouble, rebuilt the squad.

Led us to the play offs - a missed penalty away from the final.

Next season - romped to the Championship title with 100+ points

Next season - kept us in the Premier League.

--- Huge progress, built the foundations for others to profit from

[We wouldn't have won the PL with him but we wouldn't have won it without him]

He's not beyond criticism and did some barking mad things at times but his overall record with us is superb IMHO.

That's why the majority still love him and probably always will.

PS. Did he actually headbutt a player, has that been confirmed or still gossip? And even if he did, do you think the player might have deserved it? Abused supporters... yeah he gave some shit back to someone who was constantly abusing him - can't blame him hugely for reacting. As for the scandal, three young kids did a stupid thing - not sure you can blame him massively for that, even if one of them was his son.

Personally, I have no time for the bloke after the way he treated Stringer.

On the subject of "how is x footballer only y years old?", borderline astonished to discover Dean Ashton is only 37. Stopped playing more than 11 years ago and I knew he retired young but in my head he was practically from a different era whereas in reality he's the same age as Big Wes.
