Some Liverpool fans weren't too enamoured by him even aside from this howler. Lacks pace and presence and not that great it in the air.

90% of Leicester fans weren't enamoured with Vardy after his first season.

Not sure which Liverpool fans you are listening to but he is known for being very good in the air.

I went on fbref to check Kabak’s stats -- interestingly, Little Wes is cited as one of the five most similar players.  A good sign (even if one of the others is Rob Holding).

His weaknesses are few, but maybe the worst possible ones.  He’s rash -- among the “leaders” in fouls, bookings, and defensive errors leading to opponents’ shots.  Not the ideal partner for Cags.

But he’s clearly much, much more than a stopgap.  18 months ago, when similarly desperate, we were loaning Ryan Bennett.  So let's get this guy.

6 goals in 55 Bundesliga games is pretty impressive though so I suspect movement/positioning at the very least is top drawer.

By the end of the season (and when it came up during this window), most Liverpool fans on RAWK wanted him signed. The only deterrence was the return of VVD, Gomez and Matip, and thus the likelihood of too many warm bodies at CB.

It'd be a hell of a clanger to let Tarkowski out of our sights now that Kabaks gone, or go for Vestergaard.

Southampton keep reiterating that they won't sell Vestergaard which means a potential and protracted negotiation. I'd prefer to just hand Burnley £25mil without any arguing and get it over and done with.

If Evans takes a while to recover from his injury, which he very well could, Tarkowski would be an astute partner for Soyuncu imo. It would leave us with an embarrassment of riches at centre back once all were fit, though.

Justin/Bertrand/Thomas Evans/Soyuncu Fofana/Tarkowski/Benkovic Ricardo/Castagne is some of the best defensive depth in the league, and may be overkill

We wont sign from the premier league. Inflated costs, selling to “rivals” & lack of budget prices us out. Only possibility would be a loan but again no-one really available to our high standard.

Looking at La Liga & Ligue 1 will be our first bet as financially they’re still struggling. Think Lenglet feels a bit too prestige for us but would be my first choice. Richards from Bayern as another “for the future” and we’d be very well balanced at CB
