Transfer targets ongoing

Makes sense but the obligation to buy could be a tough one for us if he ends up not being as good as we thought. Imagine we had an obligation to buy Under when he's not really done enough. We'd have all been fuming if we were being forced to sign Under now. Hopefully our scouting team have full confidence he will be good enough and is coachable.

I agree, but I think that offer last summer when the club will have known about the losses to our 2019/20 accounts shows that we were willing to invest but obviously we want to kick the costs down the road. We were seemingly going to do that for Ünder who was our back up option to Trincao but the masterstroke seems to be in the last min agreement to an option to buy instead.

They tried everything to land Trincao last year but failed due to all the politics and BS going on at his club. Anyone know how he’s performed this year and whether he’s had much game time ?

Used mostly from the bench rather than as a first team starter but there's no chance we sign him, he's been called out time and again to be an important project piece for them, and has impressed several times since joining, plus has become a fully fledged international.

It's a shame we didn't get him because I think he'd have had the same sort of impact Fofana did. Credit to the scouting team, but not much they could have done, Barcelona got him first!

Hopefully we have one or two more "top secret" signings lined up for the forthcoming season. Players like the Turkish defender come across as more exciting to me; it's the unknown players that always seem to be the spectacular ones for us.

Trincão to England?

Such a scenario could pave the way for Francisco Trincão to leave Camp Nou this summer, and according to a story in El Confidencial the club’s feeling at present is that the former Braga man does not fit into their plans as they assess major changes this summer. Coach Ronald Koeman has implemented a system with less emphasis on natural wide players, reducing Trincão’s chances of playing time.

According to El Confidencial, big earners Antoine Griezmann and Phillipe Coutinho will be made available, while the club will look to take advantage of interest in Trincão in England to facilitate his sale. Jorge Mendes’ strong ties with Premier League clubs is seen as a useful aspect in making the player’s departure a realistic option.

Leicester City are long-term admirers if Trincão, having tried to sign the 21-year-old numerous times already in his young career. Catalan reports last summer indicated that The Foxes tried no less than three times to instigate negotiations to bring the Portuguese to England before he had even kicked a ball for Barcelona, and should Brendan Rodgers’ team secure Champions League football it is expected they would head the queue this summer.

I think he'll move clubs in the summer, Barca are chaos.

Generally players we've chased for ages turn out to be naff.

Evans the most obvious example, clearly not naff. Maguire we were after for years at two different clubs. Dragovic was decent. Mendy was a long-term Ranieri favourite who turned out value for money in the end, as did Gray and Amartey. The club wanted Okazaki in the January before we got him too. Castagne meanwhile was wanted by Rodgers and Congerton at Celtic 2 years ago.

Musa, Slimani and Silva are all clearly failures, but they were just shit in general.

Not really sure you can come to any conclusion about long-term vs short-term targets on that lot.

To fund any incoming players ,we will have to sell and who could we afford to lose who is worth 30 million plus?

Hate to say it but Rici P. We've gone almost a full season without him and done well. We'd need to bring in some cheap cover though whilst we wait for Justin to recover.

Again would rather we keep him. Just imo the player who could fund our next window.

We put £20m away for Under, which we aren't now spending.

I am pretty sure the club won't be taking on any more debt with transfers given the pandemic and the need to fund the stadium extension. The budget will have to be balanced.

If we make Champions League, the squad needs to be strengthened as our limitations were shown in the inferior European competition this year. With no FFP now, I can see even more investment into the squad, particularly if we want to maintain our status as a top 6 club.

Transfer money is going to be so tight this summer, 3 or 4 players off the wage bill at the end of this season with no transfer fees incoming (Morgan, Fuchs, James)  possibly 2 or 3 being sold (Ghezzal, Jakupovic) for not a lot of money, not much trade for The KP brand for 12 months so no injection of funds, fingers crossed none of our first team players are sold for big money, a couple of the young players promoted to the first team squad along with Sowah, Iverson & Dewsbury Hall coming back from loan..

The £20 million rumoured to be put aside for Ünder and maybe £20/£30 million Champions League money if we stay in the top 4 plus a bit more hidden under the bed to fund 1 big signing or 2/3 decent prospects it could end up a great pre season...

Up the City... :scarf:

Add Benkovic & Choudhury to the outgoings and you could (could) be looking at £20-25M plus the savings of 7 wages.

I’m not pessimistic about the summer window, if we secure a top 4 spot.

Apart from the selling of big name players , Mahrez , Maguire etc. , we have found it very difficult to offload players for a decent fee. Choudhury would be a profit , but I do not see him leaving. Benko and others would probably be an overall loss.
