Don't think they messed up, the club simply don't have the budget to stretch to their asking price, bearing in mind we still need a winger and a centre-half. This is where not being in the CL also hurts us as we have a smaller budget consequently.

A real shame because he's the sort of player that could have got us top 4 consistently. But we are not in a bad place with Luke Thomas and JJ (when he's fit). It's just that those are players for the future, whereas Gosens is a world class player who would grace any team he plays in. Add his 8G / 8A to this team and that's 6-9 points extra a season! Prioritising a striker like Daka is the correct decision from Rudkin IMO. Gives Daka a season to settle in whilst Vardy can still do it, so he can fully take over next season. The biggest signing we can make is keeping hold of Tielemans. With Juventus opening negotiations with Locatelli, that bodes well for us, as they are a team that were interested and could get him. Liverpool won't be able to afford him.

I think even if we had got CL the deal wouldn't have been completed yet anyway, just look at how long the Soumare deal is taking Man City and Barcelona have been linked with him since May as well 1
Blue ROI Posted 22 June 2021 Share Posted 22 June 2021 Gosens wasn't likely going to agree to join us before the Euros. Probably was certain that he would have a good tournament and be in stronger position afterwards. Champions League would have helped but with someone like him we will get outmuscled by some other club. It's not the end of the world if it the rehab of the other 3 works out okay. The injuries are of concern but it may not be like the importance of signing Daka with an aging Vardy. 1

CrispinLA in Texas Posted 22 June 2021 Share Posted 22 June 2021 (edited) Gosh I really thought we were the only club wanting him a month ago. Now judging by you guys he's off to Man city, probably be a huge success there just like that other German midfielder Gundogan who he's replacing Edited 22 June 2021 by CrispinLA in Texas

But we are not in a bad place with Luke Thomas and JJ. Gosens has been a German national team member since mid 2020. That means he's already known to every one of the Twelve and Bayern and Dortmund. From what I've seen this Euro tourney, he's a monster of a player. He is never going to come here, CL place or not. That's not to rubbish City, but the world's his oyster. After these Euros he's going to have a price tag of £70+ million. Thank you for pointing out that Luke Thomas and JJ have not gone through the wardrobe into Narnia. JJ is also a bit of a monster too, and Thomas would now walk into any of the sub-Six teams (we need to define if City now make it a 'Seven' - given the North London 'giants' ' apparent lack of ambition). One place Gosens hasn't proved himself in is English football. Thomas and JJ have grown up in it. They're here and proven. There are some posters on here who appear to feel that Gosens is the Messiah - come to take us the next step up. But that money could be spent on the real problem areas. Neither Jonny Evans nor Jamie Vardy are going to be + 40 games players next season. Gosens could have been the target two seasons hence, but we're just not ready for him.

You ever thought just like Youri T he did not want to talk about it until after the Euro's. Also his club would have seen that as a way of extending the shop window so to speak. Also overseas players cant sign until July 1st so why would they rush into a decision. Why does everyone automatically assume it's our club that's fvcked it up.

This isn't some hidden gem playing in the French 2nd division. He has played in a champions league semi final and has 10 caps for Germany. He will be on the radar of every big club in Europe. His agent will know this, atlannta will know this.

Leicester_Loyal Posted 24 June 2021 Share Posted 24 June 2021 I don't think he'll come here and I don't think he ever would, not even with CL football. He always wanted to keep him options open until after the Euros, and his club has an optional year extension, meaning they can get a higher price. His performances at the Euros have generated much more interested in him, so we'd still be competing with clubs with more money and CL football year after year. Lambert09 Posted 24 June 2021 Share Posted 24 June 2021 An absolute dream scenario would be for gosens to 2 foot Kane early in the game. Get sent off, everyone fuming at how stupid it was ... England cruise to victory. Hurting a Spurs player, a true indication he’s perfect for us 1 1

Not blaming the players as Castagne, Thomas etc all have the ability to attack when the opportunity arises but not when forced to as they are in 3 at the back. Not blaming the manager either as injuries forced his hand to some extent but we've got to either bring in a couple of proper wing backs or proper wingers. We could of course be moving to a 4-3-3 but we'd still need to play other formations so my guess would be to get a couple of wingers in. Would love to know what @StriderHiryuthinks what we'll do?
