Vardy looked like the years are finally catching up with him at the end there

Are you being serious? First match of the season. No one can be match fit yet.

First off a win is key. Getting off to a good start is paramount but Brendan's tactics second half worry me. We were clearly by far the superior team first half but setting up to defend second half invited Wolves on and if they had a finisher like Vardy they would have come away with the win. We should have be looking to impose our superiority on an inferior team. If Rodgers persists with this timid approach I fear he will be missing a trick and it will cost us. Not sure why he does it.

....they squeezed up and pressed us better!!!

We struggled to deal with the pressure so Rodgers went with the same tactics he uses when we are under pressure physically. Not the right move but it came off and I would rather our quality on the ball forced them to drop and take the pressure off our back line.

We still looked rusty, our timings and understanding upfront were not quite there but that will come.

Bit bombscare at the back in the second half, but job done. Vardy shows his class. Wolves are a tricky team, nice to get the win.

Goal

1-0 Vardy

Vardy with a normal hair cut. Still not used to it

Good to kick off with 3 points, more important than the performance, which was hit n miss.

Not really surprising with the Fofana situation knocking the wind out all of us and Bertrands covid test would have been a curve ball as he was a certain starter.

Early signs are Vardy will need to be managed (Perhaps Prem and Europa) as he was exhausted at the end so a standard shift for him, two games in a week he will need to be rested, one per week he'll be ok.

Amartey is getting hammered but he's done alright for me, thrown I'm the deep end and showing his importance to the squad. Not a starter but then I suspect hes one of the lowest earners in the total squad.

Onwards and upwards.

Good to start w 3 points. Especially at home, where we were awful last season (9-9). That seems to be an obvious area of opportunity, no team that went .500 at home really warrants a CL berth.

We will need to see about getting Vest bedded in properly, he looked uncertain, a liability even. Amartey seems actually quite solid defensively, just he has to work on that passing. It will come with time. I hope we stick with him to some extent, bc I think there is a Prem-level defender in there. At least as a back-up. Just the way we play out the back, he needs to level up re that passing game.

Our midfield really struggled against their press 2H, we just couldn't link play 2H, couldn't move fwd, kept passing backwards and losing possession 2H. Thought we looked very slow to react as well, there was not enough movement off the ball giving players passing options. Was a very low-energy 2H for us. Worth noting Rodgers seemed to have no tactical  answers when we were being overrun.

All that said, we are a level or two above this lot, and our class won the day. We have reached the point where we have enough talent to see off the avg Prem side even when playing sub-par football, but we need to do more next week, play a complete game, not just half of one. The big diff this season has to be the fans helping us at home. We have to be at least .700 at home, 9 home losses cannot happen again

I know its Vesters first appearance but he was not very dominant in the air and is slower turning than an aircraft carrier.

I think he will come through (hoping so anyway) hard to judge or make comments when he has had perhaps 1 or 2 training games with us before the match.

Good for Vardy to get an early goal and he was a total pest today . Looked shattered by the end of the game not sure if that a sign  of things to come or just first full  game back .

He can give it his all now as we have more than good enough cover to give him a rest.

Big Dan had a couple of brain farts,  which he has been prone to do in the past, but he put a right shift in, got some blocks in and did some top class wrestling with Traore.

I'm afraid I made a slight sex noise when Youri did that dummy 2nd half.  lol
