It is indeed somewhat bizarre. Fair enough he met with the leadership group yesterday to discuss how shit we are this season but to be doing it to reassure them of his commitment is surprising. I think there's more to this than meets the eye But I just don't see Utd going for him.

It my be a bit of a back tracking exercise from Brendan.

I’m sure he thought he’d be in the running for the United job, but it may well be that something has cropped up and put a spanner in the works (Zidane/PSG/Poch coming to some sort of agreement where Poch ends up at United and Zidane takes over at PSG). Everyone is happy apart from Brendan who has been shafted.

Poch would be a much better fit at United than Brendan, imo.

Rodgers is now left with the awkward realisation that we are as good as he’s going to get, for the moment at least.

Personally I completely understand and accept that bar the very odd exception, playing or managing Leicester City is not the ultimate achievement or goal for ambitious hungry players and staff alike, however and this is where I have an issue with Rodgers, rightly so he will be linked to jobs etc, that is the downside to being successful and when he was appointed I always felt we were a stepping stone, but my problem is the stuff leaked in the media about waiting for the Man City job or more recently that he wants the Man United job, it is disrespectful to our club, owners, players, staff and supporters.

I know people will say don’t believe all you read in the media but where there is smoke etc and someone in Rodgers camp or with his knowledge is leaking these snippets, whilst he has been very good for our club, I have never felt like he has ever seen our club and his role as anymore than a 2/3 year project to elevate his reputation and secure another crack with an elite club.

Clearly he has eyes and his heart on moving on but also wants to do it at a time to suit him and minimise any further damage to his reputation after walking out on Celtic.

The problem is by staying he could

inflict more damage to our club than if he left to take the Utd job this week, if they truly want him.

It does make you wonder how much the players might find out behind the scenes. Evans has probably been informed by the close to Utd that Rodgers agent has been offering his services the last few weeks.

Rodgers has already said , the speculation is rubbish, for once we will have to accept this is true. He is in the best job he has ever had and he knows it. The Liverpool job taught him that managing a giant club is a responsibility too far. A lesson , by the way , that David Moyes has also learnt.

Things can change very quickly. Do you remember when the board came out and stated their "unwavering support" of Claudio Ranieri only for him to be sacked three weeks later?

Being cynical it's easy to express commitment when you are aware it's very unlikely that you are to be offered the job anyway. I believe if he thought he was in the frame then he would be keeping a low profile.

Leicester Mercury getting the scoop would suggest it’s leaked from the players end?

Surely they’d have gone to Percy?

I just read about in an article in the independent website. Published Saturday afternoon, suspect it slipped out post match.

I think sometimes folk just read too literal into quotes. Was probably more of an informal chat as opposed to any formality. Players get to the ground about three hours before and go to their ‘green room’

I think the days of the Mercury (or any local media) getting scoops from players are long gone.

Even if United want Rodgers he'd be on a hiding to nothing going there (not that I'm saying that he wouldn't take the job). Having to deal with a player of Ronaldo's profile can be a big challenge and having managed Liverpool and having 'only' won league titles in Scotland, he'd already be starting off on the back foot.

I had a thought last night: We are a bit crap this season, and it is the first season without big Wes in the dressing room. Was he an even bigger influence than we ever gave him credit for?

Its weird to call a meeting with a couple of players to state it. Why not just tell everyone at Mondays session?

The weird corporate style of management is so so odd. Probably one of the reasons I cant warm to him. He seems like some executive robot that was accidentally dropped into the wrong career.

Possibly? He was close to all the players it seemed - senior and the youngsters. Maybe he could keep things in check and maybe wasn't as emotional as Kasper for example?

I think the fact Brendan had a meeting with the leadership group shows the players felt his head had been turned.  It may be coincidence but it shows on the pitch. Hopefully it reassured them. I guess we will see on Thursday! I am surprised he didn't speak to the whole squad and just the select few. Maybe they are the most upset at the moment or maybe tensions are high and he didn't want to take on the whole team!

I hope it has cleared the air and it was a genuine and honest conversation as things need to change and fast!

Nobody is going to be at the club forever and if he gets the Man Utd job then he's off. The term in his contract that he is able to speak with Champions league clubs is a really bad clause for the club. It's not just if Rodgers goes....... It's now also what if he speaks with Man Utd, meets with them, puts forward his application and then they go and get someone else, he stays and it gets back to all the players at the club that he was bags packed and ready to go. If that happens he couldn't expect or ask for any loyalty from any player if they want to leave in future for another club, it's unsettling. I just worry that no good can come from this. Leaks happen all the time in football and the speculation on this is going to be turned up to 11. If that clause wasn't there then they would have to pay the fee then speak with him about terms which would mean that they actually wanted him and he wasn't just one of the candidates and unlikely to get the job.

It was out on twitter earlier in the day before the Mercury came out with it.

They truly don’t.

This really lends itself to conspiracy theories.  What if his contract allows him to speak to Champions League clubs only if we're not ourselves in the Champions League.  What a good idea it would be, if you want out, to bottle out of the final game when our Campions League spot depends on the result.  No, surely not ... :D

He supposedly talked to them before the game so if that's the performance it resulted in, then we've got no hope on Thursday if seeing anything different.

you actually know that the stuff in the media is "leaked", and not just speculation designed to fill column inches?
