I watched the game with a feeling of resignation from the start, but it has been like that for a year now.  The players huffed and puffed, and I could see they were trying, some had too much nervous energy and seemed to lose control of the ball on numerous occasions, but we just didn't have the nous to break them down.  The ref was probably the worse I've seen this season, but I think we helped him by getting bullied by Roma, and just not being good enough.  So if the ref was corrupt, as some on here suggest, or UEFA wanted Roma in the final, then Rodgers and the players made it too easy form him.

Yes the ref was very poor, but from an attacking point of view so we’re we.

The effort of the players shouldn’t be called into question, but a lack of quality in the final 3rd has cost us. Not to mention more terrible defending from a set piece.

Above sums it up....cant imagine any of our players saying that for any home game this season...

Watching on TV with the lad, we saw the Roma supporters first and the enthusiasm was incredible - loud, proud and energetic. Then the camera changes to our miserable lot who looked like we’d already lost 20 mins before kick off 😂😂 Not saying that all the travelling supporters were like that, because I know that’s not the case, but the small section that featured on the TV in that moment looked like they’d just got word that Filbert had been ran over on the M1. Arms folded, silent, bored.

I kinda understand though. Leicester fans are used to us playing shite or f**king up in the final moments so it’s less of an exciting moment pre-match and more of an anxious one.

Totally ineffective with over 60% possession why should we be surprised and expect a different result ?

I mentioned something  similar about our away fans on Sunday V Spurs.

Tgey seem to like to shout and sing pre match, when they are needed they are too tired, asleep or spend the time watching in the concourse  or toilets.

I can assure you there would have been some tw@ts yesterday who have spent hundreds and took time of work to not even watch the game, instead be in the concourse getting p1ssed.

Its truly amazing

On the flight back with two hours sleep. Gutted really. If ever a game could sum up our season…slow, passive football and beaten by a corner.

I can take us losing, but 3500 in Rome deserved a moment of excitement at the very least.

Welcome to Brendan's vision of the future

Would be interesting to hear what Brendan expected the players to do and why it failed. We definitely failed our fans in the stadium with that performance.

It's always good for a player to say that in the media, the fans love it. Many other players on the other hand, particularly when retired, say that the noise is something they get used to and they don't even notice the fans when they play as they are concentrating and get absorbed and lost in the game. I do think that some fans think that they're more influential than they think personally.

reading the thread, it seems that my impression that we bosses that second period is misplaced. Of course we failed to make anything of the possession and control we had because of their low block which is fairly typical for us. We needed to work the wing backs around the back of their defence to cut balls back but only once did JJ manage it and he seemed to ‘get a nose bleed’ having got there. Classic Jose and probably if we had managed to nick one then they would have come out and caused us problems again..

or maybe the second half showed that we should have matched them up from the start (being away) and Rodgers simply got his tactics wrong.

the set play is our Achilles and I still feel that emptying the box of smaller players (both ours and theirs) makes it even easier for them to get their head on the ball - perhaps kasper has requested it to be able to get out and punch but over the two legs, they got first contact to nearly all corners (at both ends).

we aren’t zonal any more but it’s was a straight five v five man for man each time and with their height advantage and pellegrini’s delivery, it’s no surprise they made one count.  Maddison’s, by contrast, were woeful all evening.

It was never going to be easy to win in Rome, they have a great home record, huge and noisy crowd but it's the nothingness of the performance that frustrates. We are not good enough to play the way Rodgers thinks the game should be played and he seems unable to adapt.

Home advantage is massive in the second legs, see Rangers as another example, I bet Ibrox was rocking. Whilst our home atmospheres were ok, they were nothing like that. It does help. Not always of course, see Marseille.

From the moment we started any song (three hours ahead of k/off), their fans whistled it out. We could sing but their whistles were louder. And this was from both sides of the away end.  That was effective in subduing the away end to a fair extent.  At our place, you can always hear the away fans because one side is the family stand and the sound travels easily across. It honestly felt like we weren’t being allowed to vocalise our support most of the time - and by the second half, a not insignificant number of the away end decided it would be more fun to take on the stewards and plod..

tbh, I think way too many of our support were three sheets to the wind by the time the second half started - roma ensured a plentiful supply was available most of the  evening.

Italian Teams are experts at parking the Bus and the dark arts. Throw Jose in the mix and this was always going to be a massive ask.

I may be in the minority on here, but I am proud of our Team. Without Thursday Night Bingo next season and a slight rebuild, coupled with less injuries (hopefully),  next season may be a different story.  Just get rid of any player that thinks the grass is greener elsewhere and recruit wisely this summer.

Getting rid of BR and bring in who exactly ?  Dyche? Potter? Thomas Frank? Roy Hodgson?  The list is endless - not.

This should of been our crowning moment first Semi Final in Europe trying to get to the final our lads should have risen to the occasion fought for every ball played quality football passed to each other with confidence, but all we got were Nervous players who We’re beaten before kick off the atmosphere was electric the Roma Players were up for it we weren’t !

Yes they bullied us the typical Diving & cheating harassing the ref at every occasion who bowed to their whinges a ref that wasn’t fit to officiate such an important fixture, but our lads should of given as good as they got !

So what’s next for our Club a big clear out and rebuild can Top find the funds to improve our faltering team, we know we’ll get funds coming in from Youri’s sale it’s just a case of who else we sell on to improve the budget?

Oh we’ll there’s always next season ??🙏🤞🤞

If you look at the stats during lockdown Vs full stadiums they clearly point to home advantage from a home crowd being huge. Whether that's inspiring players or influencing referees is not clear (probably both).

We struggled with their overtly aggressive physicality, yes you could argue it's a physical game but they were shoving, kicking, and wrestling us off the park. I'm all for letting a game flow and all that but you could see from the reaction of our players they were thinking WTF. To make matters even worse they totally played the ref by diving, rolling around and every bit of s#ithousery they could get away with, and there was a lot.

We were poor however and failed to figure out anyway to play through their defence, reflected by our pathetic shots on goal stats, but the officials were abysmal.

I'm sure you're right to some extent, particularly for younger players, I just think it's overplayed at times.
