Wonder what Prince William makes of all of this, considering that he's the president or similar of the FA?..

And, as a Villa fan, he'd have been looking forward to a welcome three points this weekend.

I'd have thought playing the games would have allowed football fans to show their respects with a minutes silence, there would also be the opportunity for a few renderings of National Anthem as the WHU fans did last night,

This would likely be their only way of showing public ally how they feel.

What kind of incidents? Arcade Fire (the band) played last night their gig in front of 20000 people in London. The band and the majority of their fans aren't pro Monarch and they've paid their respect multiple times during the gig. I can't understand what kind of incidents there might be in a football match.

Liverpool and Celtic were due to play at home. Plus just the run-of-the mill working class escapism that the upper classes aren’t very fond of.

But that was just me thinking out loud, and I’m likely completely wrong.

I am very interested in why the rugby bodies decided to play and why the EFL and PL decided not to.

I think all this buys his time. If they weren't going to do it after Brighton then they are clearly willing to give him more games.

Cost is a big a factor as anything but I think everyone on here has a very different view of Rodgers to the board and Top.

...you could be right, I have suggested before that it could just be that they have given him 10 games or they are waiting for the break for the World Cup!!!

Either way, I hope they are fully on board with who they want and the new manager will be in place within 24 hours of his (Rodgers) dismissal.

She was a good ceremonial head of state that gained a lot of international recognition, goodwill and tourism. But if the football wasn’t cancelled for her father’s death and now football is one of the few good things in increasingly difficult lives then it seems a bad decision to cancel the football. We could better appreciate her life and achievements if we weren’t forced to give up the thing that temporarily relieves us from increasingly difficult lives.

I think there is maybe something in this, and an opinion that football fans can't be trusted to show respect.

i've no doubt there would be dickheads after a few beers, as there always is.

I don’t understand why anyone is getting hot under the collar about this. I love football as much as anyone (maybe not so much right now….) but a queen has died after 70 years on the throne. I’m not a royalist and I know the royals aren’t a lot of people’s cup of tea but that’s a big thing for the nation. A game or 2 of football being cancelled-is that really a big thing? It is after all, just a game of football, even though we love it. Surely people can wait a couple of weeks longer to see us getting stuffed by Villa and Spurs?

People are fed up because the majority of the people who care are the institutions themselves. The vast majority of the people in the grounds don't. So being forced to do something out of respect for a person/institution that has done nothing whatsoever other than look after itself is gonna ruffle a few feathers. This is a fine example of how out of touch with our reality these archaic and redundant institutions really are.

We could have been celebrating getting a new manager by the end of play tomorrow but instead we've all gotta be reminded of what the stinking rich look like and how much more important they are compared to the rest of us.

This country is stuck in the past.

Seems to be rather arbitrary what is considered "respectful" for this weekend.  A football match with a minutes silence and black armbands would be inappropriate, but doing the Great North Run in a bear costume is fine.

Half the people moaning claimed they weren't watching a game again why Rodgers was in charge anyway 48 hours ago lol

I’ve not been enjoying it for a long time but I’ve still been going and watching.

Rightly or wrongly, I think the fact this game could have sealed his fate changes those opinions.

Its been ramping up all week - Tomorrow would have been a release for a lot of people.

That will all be dampened and calmed down now and probably forgotten by many people come our next game whenever that might be.

Plus the fact he’s likely to have a stay of execution for another 3 or 4 weeks.

Just stinks of classism though. Let people act how they want to act and they will be judged accordingly.

If you want to sit on your sofa and be miserable then that’s on you, maybe just, IDK, don’t go to the football?

Why should “NO FUN ALLOWED” be forced upon everyone?

If they cancel next week's games too the next fixture in English football is England vs Germany.

European fixtures next week presumably go ahead. Not for us though...

…….yet the Rugby is going ahead tomorrow

Sadly it's a completely different fanbase isn't it, no chance it wont be anything other than respectful

Make no mistake, this is absolutely down to Liverpool being at home. Postpone this weekend, then they're away until after the period of mourning.

If the footy is cancelled, foxestalk should be redirected to a page of the queen until footy starts back up. Come on admins!

Really? bit of a bold statement that.

Did you see West Ham last night. Completely respectful and exactly how it should be done.  Why would others be any different?
