Wymsey Posted 15 October 2023 Posted 15 October 2023 (edited) Admittedly, it feels quite strange that Derby and Forest aren't in this league - considering they've seemed to be seen as 'mainstays' for quite a while in the division.. Edited 15 October 2023 by Wymsey

I remember seeing a lot of people laughing at those of us who saw the positive side in getting relegated but surely everyone is on board now? Everyone is talking about how superior our squad is but that just makes me love the players who have stayed with us to battle it out in the championship and correct the failure of last season. I will never accept this relegation as a blessing in disguise. Had we stayed up, we would have had a summer to sort ourselves and looking at the state of the bottom 4/5 in the Premier league this season, we wouldn't have had to have much to stay up comfortably. 18 2

Possibly. Bournemouth made the decision they wanted a possession based game so sacked the guy who kept them up for playing boring football, and thats why they are where they are. They will probably hire another boring manager and increase their PPG later in the season. One or two of the other three will probably have a surge late on as is usually the case. If we stayed up we might have also stayed complacent, and would have been no assurance of a busy summer. The heirachy were acting like relegation was beneath us, and maybe just maybe the only way to fix that was an actual relegation. 3

Had we stayed up Dean Smith would most likely still be in charge 2

mozartfox Posted 16 October 2023 Posted 16 October 2023 It’s a blessing that it is very nice we are winning lots of games and the feel good factor that brings. Just hope if we do go back up, some of the amateurs that are running the off field aspects have learned lessons or preferably are replaced.

Well a decent manager and complete new coaching team for a start..
Wymsey Posted 18 October 2023 Posted 18 October 2023 (edited) Gary Rowett has left Millwall. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67152176 Edited 18 October 2023 by Wymsey

Fox92 Posted 18 October 2023 Posted 18 October 2023 Always on the verge of promotion but just couldn’t finish it. He will go onto another Championship club no doubt, decent solid manager.

It’s a bit like when we axed Brendan but gave him the palace game (from memory, I’ve tried to erase last season). Axe him early and then move over the international break. 1
AjcW Posted 18 October 2023 Posted 18 October 2023 That one genuinely does sound mutual. He’s obviously gone on holiday and chatted stuff through with family and decided he’s had enough. Probably not the worst time of season to make yourself available either. He’ll stroll into another champ job. 1
Corky Posted 18 October 2023 Posted 18 October 2023 Give it a couple of weeks and Merse will want Bornmuff to give it Gary Rowlatt like Hull should've done years ago.
Koke Posted 19 October 2023 Posted 19 October 2023 Very open by Todd Cantwell on how his time at Norwich ended. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/67133443
Happy Fox Posted 20 October 2023 Posted 20 October 2023 Could do with a Rotherham win tonight or draw. 2

Had we stayed up, we would have had a summer to sort ourselves and looking at the state of the bottom 4/5 in the Premier league this season, we wouldn't have had to have much to stay up comfortably. I couldn’t agree more. This whole “blessing in disguise” is actually a ridiculous notion when you think about it. Relegation is such as massive risk. It nearly put us out of business when we got relegated following the O’Neill years. We’ve started well. It could have been so different. The wrong choice of manager. Poor recruitment. No investment due to reduced revenues. More players wanting to leave or not wanting to put in the effort in the Championship. Even now injuries might stop our progress or form might disappear. Our future as a Premier League club is still massively at risk. A “blessing in disguise” is something that can only be considered in retrospect. If we get to the middle of next season and we’re mid-table in the Premier League after good investment in the summer - then I might agree that relegation was a “blessing in disguise”. But relegation isn’t something that you’d ever plan for. You wouldn’t proactively get relegated for a rebuild. It’s too high a risk strategy and one poor decision could destroy the future direction of the club for years if not decades. So talk of “blessings in disguise” is largely a pointless conversation and irrelevant. It can only ever be considered on reflection when wrongs have been corrected and the ridiculous set of circumstances that got us here in the first place have been put right 7
Dan Posted 20 October 2023 Posted 20 October 2023 If you need a relegation to make it hit home that you're on the wrong trajectory then something has gone severely wrong. It was very obvious in the summer of 2022 which direction we were heading - admittedly I did at that time ridicule the idea we could drop that season. 2
