Crazy Stat Time!

Kelechi is the Foxes all time record goal scorer in cup competitions with 17 goals overtaking Mike Stringfellows 15.

Stringfellow: 15 cup goals in 55 appearances (0.27 goals per game)

Iheanacho: 17 cup goals in 30 appearances (0.57)

A few select others:

Rowley: 14 in 18 (0.77)

Chandler: 14 in 26 (0.54)

Vardy: 9 in 42 (0.21)

Lineker: 8 in 21 (0.38)

Granted, with cup games in particular it can be hard to compare because the level of opposition* could vary so wildly, but he's still doing very, very well.

*For the record: 5 goals against PL opposition (1 in each AVL semifinal, 1 against BHA and 2 against MNU), 3 in Europe (1 vs zorya, 2 vs braga) and the rest against lower-league sides (at the time)

Keep in mind that in a lot of those cup games he was bought in having not played regularly and the team would have been heavily rotated in some cases. So he has done very well.

In the last 5 years no player has scored more FA Cup goals than Leicester hero Iheanacho

That’s crazy since we have really been that far in it often!

From the Guardian...

"... scoring seven goals in Leicester’s last four games in all competitions from eight shots on target. He has had just 11 shots on target since 3 December, but has scored nine goals. In his entire career there have only been three club matches when he has had more than one shot on target and still failed to score."

Right here’s a maybe stat:

IF we score a couple of goals today AND Man City are just as tight at the back as they have been this season for the remainder.

THEN we could have the record percentage of proportion of goals against one team in a season - we currently have scored 23.8% of all goals against Man City this season!

(Sadly I don’t know who the current record is held by and what that figure is!)

Crazy!

According to the commentary we haven't beat the team top of Premier League since 1998.

2 points from 16 games against the 1st placed team since.

Thats quite a poor return from 16 games.

It would be interesting to know what the record of other teams are against the team at the top of the table.

To be fair it could be many more games than that, especially as like this year there has been many league leaders in a season?!

Or fewer, not sure how many times we played top of the league in 15/16...

When we played Man City and Liverpool earlier in the season they weren't top so we'll only have had 1 game vs top this season.

In 15/16 we never played a side above us in the table

I’m too high to even work that out. That’s a ridiculous stat right? Or am I just that high?

We weren’t top the whole season but on the occasions we weren’t we played sides below us ( helping put us up the table)

Our strike pair rank 2nd and 7th in the League* for expected goals per 90’.  Despite sometimes inconsistent service, they are uncorking more dangerous shots than almost anyone else.

What’s interesting is that Vardy’s 16 xG is a third above his 12 actual goals, whereas Iheanacho’s actual goals are a third above his xG.

Most seasons, Jamie has been an elite finisher whose goals easily exceed his xG.  That's flipped this year.  Is Kelechi taking over that distinction as a top finisher?

Something I just realised - if we got a result at West Ham last weekend, we would’ve gone the whole season without someone doing the double over us. When’s the last time that has happened to us in the PL?

If we avoid  defeat at Vllla and West Ham  think it will be the first time  we havent conceded a double in the the Premier   league and the first in the top division since  1928 . Incidentally checking Fossils and Foxes  found that year we beat Portsmouth  10-0 and lost the return 1-0  and against Bolton   lost 5-0  and on the return won  6-1  losing the title on goal average. We were also  3rd the year before  which  meant  we have hardly been little Leicester for most of our history as  either side we were 7th and 8th
