"Ben Gibson is having an excellent season in a struggling Middlesbrough team and has been linked with a move away from Teeside. I first came across Ben when he was on loan at Tranmere Rovers in League One. I could tell from playing against him he was a rugged defender who enjoyed defending. Being left-sided gives him an added edge as left-sided defenders are always hard to come by, but despite all his strengths, I don’t think he can match the performances or attributes that Harry can point to. So why would Southgate select him ahead of Maguire?"

Because he's left sided?

I'm reading a glowing review of our most recent signing and still finding a way to criticise our transfer policy. I though that was what we do here.

Musa's teeth, Vardy's watch, Iborra's eyes, Amartey's concentration.

We'll have to give Big Wes a new nickname and have we signed Adam Lallana?

Vardy and Barnes look like they're on a year 9 school trip

So the picture has the star player for each team - Coutinho - Zaha - Vardy - and please tell me that's not Ben Foster for West Brom !? lol

Hodor

This should stick.

Instead of a chant for him, just yelling Hodor every time he does anything.

Would be hilarious for at LEAST twenty seconds.

I don't think Chadli has gone? I heard reports of Pulis saying he's not fit enough or something.

The yell in lieu of a chant needs to be one syllable only. It should also sound like booing to the uninitiated.

I think one of his ex teammates made the same Hodor joke on the same picture on Instagram. Harry replied with a laughter emoji I think.

Maguire had a fantastic game today, looks like a potential club captain for us in the future.

When we first signed him, I thought he was a good signing but thought that Keane or Gibson would have been better signings given how many goals Hull shipped last season. However, now that I've seen him play in the flesh I think we've signed one of the best CB's in the country. When you look at some of the signings other big clubs have made in defence over the last few years such as Stones, Lovren, Matip, Gabriel, Mustafi, etc, it looks like excellent business. I think he absolutely ideal for our team. Our two banks of 4 mean teams tend to cross the ball in to beat us, which he can deal with very easily. But going forwards... wow! Unlike Huth and Morgan who look like they are playing with a hand grenade, he can pick a pass, drive out from the back and even beat his man. Honestly this is such a big improvement for our team and the way we play and gives us a great base to play from.

Early days so far, but he looks like another signing of the Ndidi calibre. A young talent, that can hit the ground running and can still improve.

I'm quite interested to see the effect Maguire will have on Drinkwater's game, now we have a CB that can bring the ball out and pass Drinkwater won't have to drop so deep to pick up the ball, could make a big difference. Hopefully it will bring out the best in him.

Have noticed the last game or so we haven't needed the cm to drop deep to pick the ball up and move up, giving us lil more of a "flow"

I know a few (including myself) have been critical of our transfer dealings, or lack of should i say, but getting Maguire done so early and a such a good price really was a great piece of business. He looks a different class to any centre back we've had in the past. We've always had good centre backs like Morgan and Huth but the way Maguire brings the ball out of defence and sprays passes around is different class. So refreshing to have a ball playing defender. Last one i can remember was Sol Bamba and he was just an accident waiting to happen. I may be biased but i think Maguire is as good as if not better than Keane and for a much better price. If he carries on playing like this he should be getting called up for England

I thought the best passes today came from Maguire. He's superb. Can't believe he's made a couple of runs that a winger would be proud of in the last two games. What a great signing. He makes big Wes look like he's received a bomb to his feet rather than a ball. Can we clone him and have the pair of them at CB?

lol I deffo made the comparison with Bamba about the last ball playing cb we have had, what a player he looked like against Man City on his debut.

Maguire though, wow I'm so impressed with him so far. This may be because I did not know he had the ability on the ball that he does, genuinely took me by surprise. Wasn't at the game but the commentators over here in America were also raving about him, rare for a cb.

I think this could bring about a whole new dynamic to our game.  When Maguire brings the ball out into midfield, aside from allowing one of our midfielders to push up, it also draws the opposition towards him, disrupting their shape and creating more space for our attacking players.  He really is an exciting prospect and could be an absolute steal.

The only issue I have is his lack of pace. Once he is going he has a chance but from a standing start he is struggling. unless we are going to drop deep all the time we need some pace alongside him. I can see the better sides drawing our back two towards the centre circle and then playing quick one twos to release the runner. We should be paying two holding midfielders against the better sides to insure against this.  This is generally an issue at the KP. Away from home against the better sides we should be deeper anyway.
