It’s not the fault of the players ..... the laws are there to be enforced. Refs simply don’t have the bottle ..... imagine dyche’s reaction if a ‘10’ went on the board!

Incidentally, have a look at the VAR time last Wednesday at Man City v spurs and then see if the right amount of added time was played ..........

I have long been a fan of the idea of playing two 30 minute halves and stop/starting the clock at goal kicks, throw-ins, injuries, VAR etc. That way, every game gets 60 minutes of action, which is about average ball in play for most games now. That way no one can time waste more than others.

I think this is a good assesment...

Bernardo Silva has more fight and is as skillful or better than Mahrez. The reason your not in the team is when you lose the ball you put us under pressure. As a City player you have to go and win it back. Go and learn how to put some fire in your belly and return with the right mental aptitude ready to take on the Premier league fighting with the Champions. Unfortunately Mahrez wasted this year thinking he had arrived, when the reality is this is the start and to be successful this is when hard work starts.

That assessment nailed it. One of the most impressive things about Man City is that all of their talented players also work hard to win the ball back when they lose it. The same can be said of Liverpool too. Mahrez has become too arrogant in recent years which is somewhat surprising because his defensive contribution for us was quite decent. He certainly improved in that area and I remember him making a few challenges and running back when needed.

However, he's not the first Man City player to have this problem. Aguero was dropped for similar reasons when Pep first came in but turned it around. But if Riyad is already talking about leaving then it says to me that he's not willing to put in the graft needed to succeed at the very highest level. It surprises me as I think Riyad has the technical ability to play at Man City and started off OK there and at one point had scored more goals than either Sterling or Sane.

I also agree with Col in that Mahrez is a confidence player. At his best for us, it was because he looked happy and trusted in his skills. At his worst he looked nervous and shy. He also clearly has a terrible entourage around him that guide his decision making.

So that's Burnley safe then?

Third and last team to be relegated to be decided between Southampton, Brighton and Cardiff.

Looking at the current form table, Brighton to go down.

On current form Brighton would be favourites to go down but Cardiff need at least 4 points (including victory over Brighton) to do that. If they can't get the fourth point form means nothing. Over the year so far Brighton have shown they "deserve" to stay up over Cardiff.

At least it keeps the game interesting and personally I always prefer watching the battles of survival more than those for a CL spot.

Spot on.

His major problem at Leicester was his laziness, where he couldn't be bothered to even try to defend. It killed us for his last two seasons. Glad he's been found out at Man City.

I still hope that he gets a title winning medal this season but he realise that it's more of a Jeffery medal. Of course if he doesn't get a medal I can see the Manc fans blaming his poor penalty miss against Liverpool - that lost them 2 points and gave Liverpool one - as the reason for their failure.

In fact failure to win the league after being eliminated in the CL by Spurs will be seen as a colossal failure for Pep even if they do win both cups - amazing!

I honestly can't get too mad at Burnley, given it's Chelsea whose p*ss they've boiled on this occasion.

If the Clarets don't back themselves to get a third in a game when they're clearly carrying a goalscoring threat, more fool them, but it's ultimately up to the officials to start calling teams out on their BS and adding time on for every stoppage. Which they never do.

I'm still bitter that Craig Pawson managed to blow up for full time after one minute during three added on by the 4th official when we were in the ascendency and threatening an equaliser... against Chelsea in the FA Cup Quarter Final, when they went ahead at our place in extra time. And proceeded to waste time. They were already running it into the corner flag and stealing 20-30 seconds at goal kicks by the start of the second period. The rest of the officials clocked it, but Pawson proceeded to ignore the "minimum" and blew up two minutes early. But it's ok as long as it's not happening to them, right?

Hypocritical cretins. Schadenfreude. Well done, Burnley.

Edit - it was Craig Pawson who shafted us - my bad.

Burnley did what they needed to do being a smaller club with far less pound notes:fishing:, the fact it was Chelsea who could not beat them at home just makes it quite amusing :crylaugh:somewhat :D

I honestly didn't think Burnley were that bad last night. Even at 2-2 they were still pressing when they could to try and get the winning goal. In the last ten minutes of the match when they were obviously really struggling with fatigue so they just absorbed the pressure and slowed the match down wherever they could, but who could blame them when it was such a crucial point.

Looking at the fixtures, Cardiff should be favourites over Brighton. However, if Cardiff don't get 3 points at Fulham on the weekend and Brighton get a surprise result, it's game over for Cardiff.

To be honest I haven't got a jot of sympathy with any top six club when you've got someone like Burnley doing that. The sport is so structurally geared for clubs like Chelsea and against clubs like Burnley that I can't help but feel it's just bitterness because they can't find a way around them despite an already significant advantage.

The refereeing is abysmal though. It is unreal how lenient refs continue to be on blatant time-wasting. While they're like this though you'd be fools to not take advantage.

At some point clocks will be stopped to counter time wasting, and football clubs will only have themselves to blame. Booking players for timewasting is a waste of time because refs do it as a last resort (whilst actually wasting more time to book a player and then not adding it on) and they only ever do it once, to a player who isn't already on a booking.

Pointless any players moaning about time wasting. It's just sour grapes. They all do it, depending on the match situation.

I've heard people around me slating opposition players taking an age to walk off the pitch when we are trailing to them (I've even shouted at them myself), but we are just as bad if the game is in our favour. If Wasting Time was an Olympic Event, Kasper would have a gold medal!

Players will waste time. It's up to the officials to add on the time. So a bit sour grapes for Chelsea to slate Burnley for it when their ire should be directed at the ref and his team.

United will play like relegation fodder and park the bus but Man City will still win.

I may have overlooked it but did we time waste a lot at Stamford Bridge? I don't remember much complaining about it.

The no-defence policy at the start of games is pretty good.

Its even more awesome, as Leicester finally has gone past that exact no-defence policy at the start of games. Thanks Brendan!

How is he "threatening to quit"? Will he pay up his own contract?

By saying that if he can’t get game time he will request a transfer???

Bet Peps wary of him, as he has form for going AWOL

If Man Utd had won on Sunday, or even not lost so heavily let's put it, the general feeling is no-one would mind losing against Man City, but the fact it was such an embarrassment on Sunday, I think there needs to be a performance, a desire to win on Wednesday, even though no-one wants Liverpool winning the league.

I think Man City will be fearful and Liverpool will be rubbing their hands together ahead of Wednesday.

Whilst I don't want us to lose when we play Man City, i'm fearful (Not sure that's the right word) we'll get something there handing the title to Liverpool - If that's the case I wonder if the media will portray that Leicester won the title for Liverpool like Chelsea supposedly won the title for us. (Clue: They won't)

I don't think it will make much difference if United try or not tomorrow. I expect Man City to swat them aside with ease either way.

My thoughts exactly. You've got several players in that Chelsea team that cost more than the whole of Burnley's team so I can't fault Burnley for time wasting.

Not blaming players, managers or referees. It goes higher than that.

We need to find a solution which standardises the amount of game time played. Between VAR and shithousing there are too many variables. And where there are variables, there are opportunities for exploitation.

Apart from fairness, surely it's important to maintain the joy of the sport. I haven't gone off football per se, but I would say, partly as a result of this issue, that I have never enjoyed it less than I do now.

Trial having a 30 minute clock counting backwards per half, which stops every time the ball isn't live. Renders time wasting pointless. I don't know if 30 is the right number but this is the sort of thing that should be tested.
