Ric Flair Posted 14 January 2019 Posted 14 January 2019 I don’t think there’s any questioning his potential, but because of the way he conducts himself in the public eye it is easy for fans to assume he’s a spice boy who won’t put in the necessary effort to reach the very top. Bottom line is, he massively rates himself and I think that’ll drive him on to the very top. He needs to get stronger and more ruthless but that needs to be worked on from our management, they will be trying to improve that. Chilwell has done it and even Barnes looks much stronger than a year ago so it’s around this age that it happens anyway. My only real gripe right now is his set pieces, they are poor for a supposed set piece specialist and don’t even get me started on his penalties. This is something that it isn’t really about what level you’re playing at either, but his delivery has really nose dived and I wonder why? Hopefully he sticks one in soon enough and it kicks him on, there’s no questioning the ability is there in abundance.
Finnegan Posted 14 January 2019 Posted 14 January 2019 Barnes has always been a bit of a unit tbf. Even when he made his debut couple years ago he looked quite solid for his age. Couple times on Saturday he shrugged off defenders quite comfortably. Not sure you'll ever get that from Maddison, some people are just small. It's not necessarily a problem, he's also got great agility and acceleration which is part of the same physique. Just don't think he'll ever really bulk up much.
lcfcell Posted 14 January 2019 Posted 14 January 2019 I think he’s doing fine. Could he be doing better? Of course but you could say that about most of the squad. Seeing people use what he does away from football against him is just so so strange, 22 year old uses Instagram. Shock horror.

What he is very good at though is moving the ball on just at the time of impact to win free kicks, it might lead to an injury though as this is what Wilshere used to do and would often crock him. Mahrez was a right skinny urchin but he was fearless at being leathered by opposition and at times he was surprisingly strong. Maddison doesn't necessarily need to be a unit but a bit more physical.
AjcW Posted 14 January 2019 Posted 14 January 2019 As was said earlier... footballers are humans and any number of things can affect their form...
drofmor55 Posted 14 January 2019 Posted 14 January 2019 Well done James for the support he has given to Sophie and her family...

Football and current player /team form aside, there is something wrong with the world when you read about someone going into a hospice for end of life care and they are under 80. Unimaginable when they are when they are just a young child #perspective #superstrongsophie

I am so so sorry. Thoughts are with her and her family. I hope she's comfortable. She seemed in good spirits from Maddison's video bless her.
AjcW Posted 18 January 2019 Posted 18 January 2019 Let’s get behind him no matter what tomorrow if he plays. Clearly lost someone close to him today and that comes before anything on the pitch. Hopefully if he plays he’ll be driven to put in a performance for Sophie and family
StanSP Posted 18 January 2019 Posted 18 January 2019 That's so sad to hear that she's died . It really wouldn't surprise me if he didn't play tomorrow. Totally don't mind that decision if that's the one he makes. IF he does play, I hope he has a good game and plays his heart out for Sophie. And I hope fans don't get on his back tomorrow with the knowledge that he's suffered such a loss. Times like this we have to be fully behind the player!
GingerrrFox Posted 20 January 2019 Posted 20 January 2019 Doesn’t help himself. Openly liking a tweet from a Man Utd fan wanting him to join them. Idiot.
Wymsey Posted 7 February 2019 Posted 7 February 2019 Tottenham are reportedly interested in him.. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/tottenham-eye-james-maddison-transfer-13962828

Stadt Posted 7 February 2019 Posted 7 February 2019 We're not selling for anything less than £60m, unless they sell Eriksen for £100m and Levy gets uncharacteristically frivolous it's not happening.
Ian Nacho Posted 7 February 2019 Posted 7 February 2019 To be honest I wouldn't be devastated if we sold him for a profit. Of course he's good, but he's not reached the level of irreplaceable yet, with the likes of Mahrez and Kante being examples of those.
Grebfromgrebland Posted 7 February 2019 Posted 7 February 2019 Give him time he's only had half a season in sure he'll be better next year. Hopefully.
Grebfromgrebland Posted 7 February 2019 Posted 7 February 2019 Hmmmm Tottenham interested in one of our players just before we play them? Well I never!
Mehrez Posted 7 February 2019 Posted 7 February 2019 No chance we sell unless we get a ridiculous offer (atleast 55m+) spurs aren’t going to spend that kind of money, anything they make from Eriksen leaving will go into the stadium debt and they’ll replace with someone 25m or less or just promote someone from their academy

So I don't think there is any point in taking quick profit, you invest in this sort of player to make big profits. Selling him now is only likely to lead to Spurs making the lions share of profit on his growth.
Samilktray Posted 7 February 2019 Posted 7 February 2019 What a massive downgrade Maddison would be from Christian Eriksen. Surely they can do better
