Thoughts to his friends and family. He used to be one of the few landmarks I could use when talking about Leicester; arguably the greatest keeper that ever lived (probably behind Yashin)

Had been unwell for some time, and had been house-bound mostly since the the latter stages of last year.

Family knew him and his wife well (30+-year association).

Used to be a regular around the Trentham area of Stoke, where he resided, but had not been seen in public for quite a while.

He was a real gentleman, with his honesty and general kindness.

Very sad - RIP..

Deep condolences to his family, he will be remembered as one of the greats of English and World football. Thank you Gordon, I had the privilege of watching you when I was a youngster.

Rest in Peace.

A very sad day indeed RIP in Gordon.

Too young to remember him play at Leicester but saw him play for Stoke and England the best Goalkeeper ever. The best tribute I can pay is when I played football in the garden with my son who is only 17 now and never saw him play the only Goalkeeper he wanted to be was Gordon Banks! He will be remembered for ever.

RIP Gordon - one of the very best players of his generation. Proud to have had him as our only World Cup winner . Wonderful goalkeeper and someone who was universally well regarded.
