Premier League Thread 2019/20

Recommended Posts

No doubt the TV will be wanting it to go to the wire at both ends of the table to make the final day a winner takes all scenario. They will be hoping that the man utd game and chelsea vs wolves could provide a full set of combinations for final positions from 3rd-6th whilst at the same time being biased towards utd and Chelsea. If it finishes with us and wolves in 3/4 then it will have been a plucky effort and the others not quite being able to make up the ground, clubs in transition, bringing through the youth etc. If the other way round of course it would all be about how quality came through in the end etc.

The media excitment over Utd and them getting into the top 4 is absolutely vomit inducing.

Sky will absolutely cream themselves if they get their dream top 4 and you will get Rio Ferdinand waxing lyrical about them for an hour before games that have nothing to do with Utd.

I absolutely detest Sky, constantly banging on about teams top players going to the top 6, give it a break you twats.

If I was a Leicester player seeing that shit would make me furious, I'd make sure we win every damn game just to **** them off...twats. Hope Fernandez gets ruled out for the rest of the season.

I Dont particular like united, but many Posters on here have now got  their comeuppence ,for underrating the character of Ole,and the younger side of the squad,

mixed with some  experienced top class players, that had been floundering....Solskjaer took that on,shown His Manutd no nonsense character and like Lampard at Chelsea started to stamp their own ideas into the procedure, showing it must be said some metal,to take on the task, with some sensitive players.

They didn't shy away from big names descisions, and immediately shown Trust in their young potential talent...Its paying off..!!!

Both Teams are playing some Good Football now...Thats What traditional Top  PL teams, can do,they have a high Cache of Quality youngsters, and quality bench pushers, which allows and gives  them time & Space to rebuild and reasses. Teams/clubs like us just Don t have that clout  and depth in our squads.

Players like Maddison,Tielemans, are our exceptions not the rule...We as fans can only hope we have that special find, and they stay 3-5 seasons..Then Mesh immediate with our own talented mix of bbone base players,to give is our own high new successful Era.

We then, hope that we can build 'towards' trying to realise a massive step up,  from the 'also rans' again hoping Dreaming we can create und reach that platform, that puts us on a more new norm of,permanent  & consistent top 8....Our owners reasonable finances have allowed us to at least take on that Challenge.....

Fans Respecting and realising that those standards, takes time to even get near todays even weakened top Club rescources, obviously the Media will cream over  Resurgence of Any of those big names...if We want und same long time recognition and slimey Media at our feet,we have to break into those hights consistent basis...That title season, won us that Short Time recognition,With plaudits from all corners...More than the Blackburn years...

Like we expect from others,in the end we have to Walk und Walk, and Not belittle the ones who have the present higher ground..

Sometimes this forum Acts like spoilt brats...I

After all These years I am Happy we have owners, that are at least trying to give is the right Platform

to attempt the previously unreachable dream..

We are only at the beginning of our journey ,if we Fall short...we had a go,if the Wheels are still rolling,I will sit back and Enjoy despite the People who Lack foresight & expect permanent immediate success..Yesterday...And Shout out loud their Frustration instead of encouragement and  understanding what it takes to reach then Stay at the top...or at least Play und Stay in the same division,

which then allows is to dream...

Nigel Pearson built up a Great backroomstaff that gives that Background support & perspective...Ranieri-group even in taking the title,ripped/torn  Our Soul appart,so. We had to begin again from the start....!!!

We all know that the ‘Big Six’ get favourable treatment - from match officials as well as broadcasters - because of the size of their fan base and, more particularly, the amount of money they generate.

It’s a fact - not a point of debate - because the evidence is so overwhelming.

The only way to upset the applecart is to do what our 2015/16 heroes did and defy the odds and the injustice by having the guts, determination and skill to consistently beat them.

With Arsenal, Spurs and Man United upcoming, that’s the challenge we now face. I just hope this manager and team are up for it. If they are, and we finish in the top four, they’ll be legends too.

They definitely had everything on their side. Don't get me wrong, they're a great team and Klopp is a fantastic manager, but everything seemed to go for them. But it does when you're top. When you're top you hit the post and it rolls in, when you're bottom it rolls out.

Look at how many penalties we had when we won it. Pretty sure it's a record for any PL season.

Oh come on, it's funny how some of you are so eager to knock people of their pedestals. There have been several times when Liverpool haven't been given penalties or goals due to VAR as well, but they are promptly overlooked - likely through the bias of the decisions in the games against us.

Could it be that sides like the current Liverpool one and our title winning squad simply provoked these fouls in the box because they were better than the defenders they faced?
Both sides benefitted massively from deadly counterattacks and high pressing, which leads to 1) more desperate lunges or rushed tackles 2) which are often further up the pitch, i.e. their own penalty box.

Liverpool won the league at a canter because they have been the best team by quite some distance. Their weaknesses aren't as glaring as ours or those of Man City and it would be a disservice to that team and their achivements to place any meaningful emphasis on VAR.

The 2 games v Wolves is probably the only time its worked to our advantage. Both goals really should have stood.

Overall though we have had way too many calls go against us.

LCFC 2-1 Burnley: Wood equaliser ruled out for tripping Evans who was attempting to (and would've never gotten there) stop the ball going in.

LCFC 2-1 Spurs: Equaliser chalked off for offside with probably the tightest decision by VAR yet. The technology has limitations and this one should probably have received the benefit of the doubt if we're honest.

LCFC 3-1 Bournemouth: Tielemans avoiding a red card. Had the ref given a red, VAR would not have overturned it for sure even if it wasn't intentional by Tielemans.

LCFC 2-1 Everton: The famous Kelechi last second goal, as tight as the Son decision that went against Spurs.

LCFC 2-0 Fleetwood: The Kelechi goal that was initially chalked off and then given by VAR.

It's pretty selective memory to think we've only had the decisions against Wolves go in our favour...

That wasn't an equaliser, that was a potential 2-0 and game over for us. It got chalked off and we ended up turning the game and getting 3 points. We haven't been favoured by VAR and the majority has been about not having penalties given to us that were stonewall. On the other hand, we have benefitted from a fair few decisions. Without VAR, we would probably be about in the same boat.

We cannot truly say that we have arrived until we can consistently take these teams on, on an equal footing and consistently pick up points against them. During the title season, with the exception of Arsenal, our record against the so called big teams was excellent, taking 4 points off of each of Spurs, Chelsea and Man city, won one, lost one against Liverpool and two draws against Utd. We have a difficult run in but if we get compete against Arsenal, Spurs and Man utd and pick up points, then we will deserve our place in the top four.

Enough points for European qualification can be gained through a season by beating the also-rans but we will not get the recognition of being a top side unless we can be seen to be competing with these teams on a consistent basis.

Farce if he plays

Agreed but equally the article says

Last weekend the Government announced that sports teams involved in elite competition will be granted exemption from the 14-day travel quarantine rule.

So surely he will he given an exemption?

Southampton should thank us really. Since we humiliated them, they've got 35 points and would be 7th in the league had rankings been started the week after the 9-0.

And we've taken 38 points in that time too.

Think there was a season a while back where Spurs only got a handful of points off the rest of the top 6 but were absolutely ruthless against everyone else and finished in the top 4 as a result.

Wouldn’t mind a villa win, I’d like it to go all the way to the end with a relegation battle, proper entertainment

Nah Villa are screwed and already down. Their next game is Man Utd so pretty much a guaranteed loss. Then they have Palace, Everton and Arsenal.

Another Watford win would put them and West Ham effectively 5 points clear with GD.

Watford's next three games - Norwich, Newcastle, West Ham.

West Ham's next three - Burnley, Norwich, Watford.

Dunno why you've included me in that. I know how good Liverpool are, I've said it many a time so go and quote them posts. Like I said on my post that you decided to quote, it does go your way when you're top - I used us in 15/16 as an example.
