I read ‘ worse than we thought. 4 to 6 weeks ‘

off the website....

Ndidi, 23, suffered a knee injury in training ahead of Wednesday's Carabao Cup Semi-Final first leg tie against Aston Villa, and is expected to be out for around three or four weeks.

Now the operation on the former Genk midfielder's meniscus has been completed, Rodgers says he is now back in at Belvoir Drive and has commenced the recovery process.

"It went very well," Rodgers told the national media on Friday, ahead of Saturday's Premier League visit of Southampton to King Power Stadium (3pm kick-off).

"It was a good operation. He’s now back in and straight into his recovery. Something around that (three or four weeks). Sometimes it can be sooner, sometimes it can’t be."

Wilf is a world beater but I’m oddly happy to give Hamza some game time. Hamza isn’t at Wilf’s level but he absolutely deserves game time and in most other teams he’d be getting it every game.

Hamza is not the same player as Ndidi , he is more attack minded and I would call him a "box to box" midfielder. Comparisons might be made with Viera and Petit. Viera was far more likely to push forward. The best current example is Vidal , a formidable tackler but often dangerous going forward. The like for like replacement for Wilf is Mendy.

They're not but Hamza will surely be filling in for Ndidi's position and role over the next four to six weeks rather than playing his emerging box-to-box role.

I reckon we'll see Mendy replacing Wilf but Hamza also playing, because there's no way Mendy can cover for Tielemans and Maddison

...on the other hand this may well happen.

Speedy recovery after the operation, Wilfred! Come back stronger and better!

In the meantime, let Choudhury be your immaculate temporary replacement.

Hamza wasn't the worst today but we seriously missed Ndidi to help patrol that midfield and potentially stop some of the through balls they were able to do.

Hopefully he can have a decent game against Burnley.

Cannot believe I ever thought we'd be better off without him in the team at the end of last season. Hoping we can somehow get through January without losing too many points.

He was poor today after a bright performance off the bench against villa. Wasn’t able to win the ball back and didn’t take any of the passes that Ndidi usually does from Kasper to break through an opponent’s deep press. He was guilty of one key error that should’ve resulted in a goal for Southampton too.

Pleased to see him on Saturday in the Ndidi/Iheanacho box not on crutches or any sort of support. Might've detected a slight limp but he looked happy enough (although that was before that nightmare second half unfolded).

Could possibly be back a bit quicker than expected, wouldn’t rush him though, Hamza is more than good enough to step in

.. he's not though is he?

Nowhere near Wilf's level.

Wilf's had 3 years (bloody hell that's gone quick) of regular first team football, whereas Hamza's had to make do with cameos and inconsistent starts against big teams.

He is less of a specialist than Wilf so he is not at his level in that role. However he is more attack minded , more box to box. Mendy is the like for like , but not so good, not many are now. Really to get somewhere approaching the cover we need we will have to play both. My concern is the weakening of our defence of the high ball.
