Michael Owen in his prime would not be sitting on our bench waiting for Vardy to retire or get the odd game. Prime Vardy > Prime Owen. Vardy 3+ 20 goal seasons > Owen 0 20 goal seasons. Vardy 1 Premier League medal in a relegation threatened team and was 1 of the biggest factors in winning it. Owen 1 Premier league medal in a team who had won 4 in the last 5 leagues and had a CL final to play, and was only a bit part player in this team. Vardy was thinking about becoming an Ibiza club rep at 26, Owens career was effectively finished at 26. Vardy could of been 1 of the very best at a fashionable club and if he hadn’t been wrongly let go for being ‘too small’. Owen isn’t even liked by the only club that he actually did any good at. Vardy has a better goal to game ratio at a much inferior squad and at a much later age. Owen relied on pace and lives off 1 famous goal when 18 years old. Vardy loses a yard and adjusts his game , Owen loses a yard and didn’t have much more to his game. Vardy>Owen Edited 1 January 2021 by deanolegend1989 12 1

He would have been perfect for the role, although Owen wasn’t a natural finisher, I’m sure he could have learned a lot by watching Vardy, and would have been able to step up to the first team when required. Maybe could have played all the League Cup games. 2

However, if Perreira is fit he has to play; he is one of our players of the highest calibre. When N'didi became fit again, he had to play. Hopefully, Rodgers can find a way of keeping Castagne, Justin and Thomas happy. 3
st albans fox Posted 1 January 2021 Posted 1 January 2021 Expecting an overlapping full back to become a winger or right sided midfielder isn’t a+b = c 1) it may not work for the player - Ricky often comes onto the ball running from deep - it’s not the same higher up the pitch (especially facing teams employing a low block) 2) the player may not want to do it (hence won’t stay ) 1

It doesn't need to go on hold anyway unless clubs suddenly can't prevent their staff and players catching covid. I'm yet to hear one valid reason for pausing the PL season, it's bizarre.

Apart from around here at least. JJ has improved to be sure. but the notion of Ricardo not starting - if he's fully fit - is not even on the table. 1

Except to say that Ricardo actually started his career as a right Winger and moved back to play full back. They are both very comfortable on the Ball so it shouldn't be a problem for either of them to play further up the pitch.
