League Suspended.

End the season. Permutations galore:

Everyone in the top half remains where they are and qualify for Europe. Man City’s ban is upheld. We still qualify for the Champions League. 5th place gets Champions League. Sheffield United awarded 3 points so take 5th.

Bournemouth, Villa, Norwich, Leeds, West Brom and Fulham play off in a mini tournament over relegation/promotion. Leeds accidentally relegated to League Two for a laugh.

Liverpool not awarded the title because everyone wants to witness the meltdown.

Hilarity ensues.

I wish the Government, scientists and anyone else would pay more attention to flu which is responsible for 16K deaths each flu season in the UK.

I know it sounds somewhat cynical, but when 70 or more percent of flu deaths in the UK affect the 65-year old and above with already existing medical conditions, then it puts everything in some perspective.

Nobody deserves to die from influenza, it just hits the weakest ones the hardest. But that its hardly anything new.

And with an increase in population, flu deaths are on the decline:

At least something to cheer about.

Wont play if we play at all until end of June at the earliest, at least 3 months. Just wont be enough time.

Championship starts first week in August.

I think it will be voided. No one has won anything as yet. So everyone is treated the same. Otherwise your just guessing results.

Almost certain Liverpool would win the title but they havent as we speak.

We really need to stop any sort of social media including FT posts with random opinion statements presented as fact.

At this stage nobody knows when we will next play, nobody knows how this is all going to play out, please for the sake of everyone post opinions by all means, that’s what a forum is for.

Stating we won’t play at all until the end of June as a fact when based on no information is ridiculous.

Wonder how it would work for teams like Leeds that are in line for millions because of promotion

7pts infront with 9 to play. That’s plenty of time for Leeds to bottle it. Granted usually it’s already happened by now.

No not a fact agree totally. Its just an opinion i hope im wrong, simply based on virus peaking at the end of May as is predicted.

Not a fact ofcourse. Nobody knows. Looking at the length of time thd virus takes to peak it would be end of may into june.

Who knows hopefully be fine in 3 weeks but unlikely.

Ok - lets try and have some sanity.

once we get into April, there is an opportunity to take stock after the break.

if the premier league are intent on making headway with the remainder of the season come late April then they can.

For example, clubs will be asked to isolate their players/ essential staff within or outside of their families if they are prepared to do the same.

after two weeks, there is no chance that anyone who has been isolated will have the virus and testing can confirm this. games can then be played behind closed doors - clubs will be required to ensure that sufficient staff are available who have also been  isolated or tested (previously infected and recovered)  to operate the stadium and players etc will be kept away from non essential isolated staff in any case

if it’s calculated that the season can be completed over a five week period (playing every three/four days) then I’m sure that it could be sorted.

whilst this might seem fanciful, it shows that with a few tweaks here and there, it could be achieved.

It would require exceptional effort by the clubs, staff and players but it isn’t beyond the wit of the premier league to organise.

if society deems that football is too irrelevant in the circumstances and too few people care enough to complete the season then that’s a different conversation

If you have the Athletic,  their latest info at  https://theathletic.com/1669393/2020/03/13/coronavirus-and-football-games-closes-doors-euros-champions-league/

bits and pieces:

The football authorities [in Italy] have already revealed they are considering three options: declare the season null and void and start again in August; end the season now, dishing out the prizes, promotions and relegations on the basis of the current tables; or wait for the worst of the outbreak to pass and start playing again as soon as possible, perhaps with a series of play-offs to decide this season’s winners and losers.

At the meeting between Premier League clubs on Friday, the FA chairman Greg Clarke said that he did not think it is “feasible” that the season will be completed.  The vast majority of clubs [are] keen to complete the domestic fixture list, even if that means playing until July.

The only thing currently stopping that — apart from a much graver health crisis than currently predicted — is Euro 2020. UEFA knows that and will move it. The Athletic has heard that the tournament’s suppliers have already been told to stop preparing for this summer and start thinking about how and when it can be squeezed in next summer. If UEFA has to move Euro 2020, and it knows it does, it could probably live without the Nations League.  Likewise, if FIFA wants to do its bit, it would probably agree to postpone the start of its new and improved Club World Cup. [But] there is the mother of all sporting schedule snafus to consider: what happens if Tokyo 2020 becomes Tokyo 2021.

The Athletic has spoken to sources at several EFL clubs over the last 24 hours and they have described the prospect of going behind closed doors or having no games until next season as “catastrophic”, “disastrous” or “unimaginable”.

FA say season will not be completed

Reinstate the pools panel to decide if the game would be a home win, draw or away win, then award the points.(kids, ask your dad what this was)

Just need to make sure no Chelsea, Man Utd or Spurs fans on the panel.

As it is my idea, I will volunteer to do the job, I wont be biased to Leicester, (well not too much)

Normally you can see what is going to happen, you see the sensible outcome. But this is just an absolute mess with so many complications.

No potential outcome is without serious consequences for one team or another. There will be massive issues for many many clubs.

You play behind closed doors, the lack of income for lower league could be devastating.

You extend the season, maybe 10-20% players could be out of contract.

You cancel the season, the financial implications for those current winning would be huge.

This is just going to leave an absolute mess as we know already that it won’t kick off again in April as the state of play will have got much worse.

Out of all the complications this seems like the less problematic as crazy as that sounds. Maybe the put of contract players could extend by a month or 2
