It's only us and the press who seem to view this signing as a like for like replacement for Chillers. Assembling a squad is a tad more complicated than one out / one in. This signing has perhaps more to say about Riccy P's future. JJs long term position. And the young lads stock at LB.

Is TC shite? - clearly not!! So let's embrace it, if and when it happens.

Aren't we jumping to conclusions by assuming that Castagne will play LB? That's if we even sign him.

Anyway, for those of you who are assuming he is a Chilwell replacement, here is some food for thought;

Possession lost (per game) 2019/20

Chilwell  21.7

Castagne  8.9

Praet is the comparison most have made here but Castagne would be more in the mould of signing Evans or Maddison after selling Mahrez. A winger would be ideal but we were caught napping a bit when the defence crumbled last season. The club wont want that to happen again.

Going by recent form its a transfer to keep us ticking over should the sharks come circling for one of our marquee players.

Great stat by the way. :appl:

Happy we’re closing in on him and his versatility is an asset, but it’s odd that we’re not going for an out and out left back.

Maybe they really see Thomas as the long term solution there.

Genuinely don't think he has a clue.

Probably just looks at this forum... time to own up, which one of you is Dorsett?

Anyone know what Atalanta fans think of him?

They seem to love him. But on another note, I may have found the reason behind their players enjoying good form over that last few years. Got to love Google translate

They are left backs simple.

Perhaps we don’t want to play with a left back. Rodgers switched to a three enough times.

Players left wing back and then switches to the right when Ricardo goes to Madrid for £120m next season ;)

How the **** do some peoples brains work? He hasn’t even signed yet and you’re getting on BR back for playing him out of position.

FFS come on

Rodgers has a history of doing this, he did it a liverpool playing joe gomez, nathaniel clyne and glen johnson at left back and it didnt work. I feel like it's fair to get annoyed at him making the same mistakes 5 years on.

Didn’t realise he nearly joined Celtic 18months ago. Brengerton obviously see something in him.

This bothers me as much as switching to three at the back if we're just going with Rodgers and Congerton now over our previous network for finding players.

That could because he plays it safe, I’m sure Chillwell didn’t lose the ball in his own half for a majority of that stat

Not agreeing or disagreeing, but that could well be due to where they play mostly in possession. I don’t know enough about Castagne to say whether he plays in the final third much (getting crosses in, trying to play intricate passes etc).

He’s a good player but, a right footed left back with Harvey in front as an inverted winger doesn’t give us much width down that side. Would still prefer a Tagliafico or Gosens but don’t think either want to join us.

Better than Bryan and Targett though!!

If 3 at the back rumours pan out with signing Gastagne then we better start practicing in pre season games, or what's left of them.

Come on, we start every transfer spree with a right back in first. This will be the 4th time in the last 5 years. Hernandez, Ricardo, Justin, Castagne.
