You can't do a 10 minute walk in 0.5 degrees?

No wonder the government are bringing in road closures around the country to cut back on the numbers driving.

I can, I am relatively fit bloke in their 30s - do I think most will favour driving in a car instead? Most probably. Especially when it was bucketing it down with snow at 9 this morning and icy paths. Folk just jump in the car for the two minute drive

So Teacher assessment replacing exams again. I'm sure they'll be various protocols but how do teachers on here feel about that? From the outside looks like a lot of pressure on a decision, and open to external pressures from school management and potentially parents.

Watching BJ and then Williamson on the PMQ's today, I have lost all hope with the Government today. And this isnt me choosing political sides nor having a dig at the Tories (I've voted both Labour and Cons in the past). Both are literally clueless. It just annoys me that they do not respect the public. Nearly everything that they have said is nothing more then a lie. I think the majority of people would've given this cabinet the benefit of the doubt had they tried to be honest from the start. They're facing unprecedented times. Of course some decisions would be right and some wrong. What annoys me is that to keep face they'd rather tell us "all is well" and then change that tune within hours. Just ****ing tell us what is happening, the concerns, the hope and what you're going to do if things go wrong. It's so frustrating.

Admissions as a % of total by age (week 52 data)

0-4 - 0.66%
5-14 0.24%
15- 44 5.64%
45-64 11.26%
75-84 24.56%
85+ 56.02%

Once we've vaccinated the the top two categories (which is basically anyone aged 75 or over), we should start to see hospital admissions drop massively.

Are those figures based on confirmed covid positive cases in each age group, or just a general observation on the ages of patients being admitted into hospital?

I look forward to reading why enjoying a Church service in a defunct language is a valid excuse for displaying more hypocritical leadership.

Was copied from another forum bud, will try and find out. I do believe it's based on Covid admissions though.

And the fact MP’s and other higher members of their environment have been caught flouting the rules. Completely undermines everything they try and do. Their integrity, credibility and reliability is none existent.

Completely agree, I'm meant to be getting married in June after moving it back a year - pretty sure any decent guest numbers will rely on them really getting vaccines out quickly and I cant help but feel it will not go to plan. They just don't seem competent in even focusing on getting it right.

I’m not a teacher but my concern would be on favouritism. I remember being told by two teachers in my A-level year I won’t achieve what I want and to aim lower. I aced my exams and have achieved even more then I set out to. In my 30’s now and I’m probably far more successful then the two teachers who gave up on me without a ball kicked.

Now, I’m not saying all teachers, are like that (far from it) but some people just do better when under pressure and some take well to exams rather then written assessments. I feel for the kids as it’s a no win situation. Do I think this is a better approach then the daft approach in the summer - of course. However, how do you implement checks to ensure someone is not unfairly misjudged on their academic capabilities.

Bound to be admissions, I'd think cases are more proportionality spread out between age group. I am guessing though

15–44 seems like such a strange age group to lump together

In my workplace the vast majority have been great in terms of mask wearing, distancing, sanitising hands and workstations. Really impressed and encouraged by it and we've only had a few isolated cases.

I should have known we were gonna lock down again now I deeply regret my decision.

They've changed approach.

Giving as many people as possible in the high risk groups one dose first

I thought that the new vaccine worked best with 12 weeks between jabs?  The Pfizer one was two weeks but is more difficult to store and transport.

Also, the new one gives greater protection after one jab so they are trying to jab as many as possible in the top 4 groups with their first dose.  I expect it will be into May before many of those get the second dose.

All school will know of the possibility of closure, they will have contingency plans for it. The problem is that they have been told about this at 8pm at night the day before intended closure, when nothing has changed so dramatically that that decision couldn't have been taken much earlier.

I think you confusing being aware of the possibility and having a plan, with actually being given time to act on the plan you have in place.

So if nothing has changed, why has the alert level moved to 5? I'm not disbelieving you when you say nothing has changed, but I thought the decision to close the schools was always going to be a last resort, and therefore pretty last minute?

I'm not sure the two really equate?
