Confirmed yesterday what most reasonable people knew already, he's fine when he needs to defend but makes mistakes when he's got time to think about what he's doing. Traoré will cause better defenders the same problems this season.

We'll drop more points from other positions until Evans is back imo.

Nicely put. Thought he was really good without the ball, and awful with it.

He’s ok as a 4th choice CB and will always do a (limited) job for us

Yep. He's filling in and is a lot better than most 4th/5th choice centre backs in this league.

He is not naturally a ball playing defender so in a team that likes to play out from the back and play a possession based style, he will be under the microscope and more at risk of making mistakes when in possession, on top that he is a back up player so is unlikely to get the run of matches that will help that improve greatly. As others have said very solid 4th/5th choice who will do a steady job for a small number of games and offers valuable squad cover

Makes me wonder is Rodgers expecting/pressuring Big Dan to be playing those risky forward central passes, over a less risky option - that first pass was never really on, as even if it made it through the gap, youri had 2-3 players around him.  He's generally decent defensively and just needs to be told to keep it simple on the ball, rather than forcing a pass that's either not on or beyond his capability.

I felt sorry for Dan, he had a bad game but it happens! First game back with a full house so it may be nerves. He is happy as a squad player filling in when needed. Players like him are invaluable for those early Cup games, injuries etc.

Don't even feel he had a bad game really, two miss placed passes and got turned by Traoré once. Not horrific.

Yeah definitely not horrific. I like him,  the misplaced passes were him being rusty definitely.

And generally he does keep it simple. He had the second highest pass completion % yesterday (70 of 73), only bettered by Vestergaard (5 of 5). Obviously those 2 passes that nearly cost us will stick in everyone's mind.

Only saw MOTD but his block was match saving, we all know his limitations on the ball, that block was class though.

That block was class but he also passed the ball straight to them on two occasions, one of which led to Traore being through on goal and a better finisher than him scores that.

Generally I don't think he was that bad.

He’s a good squad player as he can play a few positions and is generally 4/5th choice in them so only needed sparingly. We couldn’t go a whole season with him playing centre back which is why vestergaard was signed straight away.

Game saving block though!

The key is for BR to tell him just keep it simple when he has the ball and do not try cutting the lines with risk passes. Let Cags and Jannick do that.

Yes that wins us the game imo

Do find it amusing how people have picked up on a couple of his missed places passes , yep they weren’t great  but quite a few players were guilty of it yesterday and not getting pulled up on it .

Amartey could have easily directly cost us at least 2 goals yesterday - likeable character but a liability at CB with the ball. Just because he got away with it doesn’t mean it can be glossed over. But to be fair the block was goal saving.

But they didn't and he kept another clean sheet 👍

If our 4 first choice defenders could play - Ricardo, Evans, Soyuncu, Justin -, we would look solid whilst Justin and Ricardo would cause havoc going forward. Until then we will have to get by with our back up defenders, and for a 4th choice CB, Amartey is doing OK.

But he fidnt did he.  He is doing a good job... and it takes time to settle in... you csnt expect his second game to be perfect

So as long as he keeps doing it and the opposition don’t score, all is well

Amartey's problem is that he's always the stand-in. That itself will knock your confidence. He must've played 3 or 4 different positions or roles under 3 or 4 managers here but always had someone in front of him. Even when he got a bit of a run under Puel he had that leg break and lost his place again. . The guy will never give less than 100% but there's never going to be a time where he owns the shirt.
