7 seasons, 89 games, a PL & FA Cup winner medal.

Model professional, nice guy and a decent CB.

I find it an interesting conundrum for a player.

8 years as a fringe member at the near highest level of your profession it's possible to reach. Best diet, physio, facilities, hotels, analysis, private jets etc And extremely well paid for it.

Or play 250 games for, say, Norwich missing modest success with being eaten alive every other season

He was Copenhagen’s top player when he joined us. Their fans loved him. Yes I know it’s a Micky mouse league but he was top class for them.
He is looking better for us then a year ago. But that is probably down to confidence and actually having a run in the team.

Rodgers gave him a lot of praise in his post match press conference, which was nice to hear.

I always have a soft spot for players who get out of a tough time and redeem themselves at a club. Nacho was the most recent example of this, but Amartey could well be the next one. Put it this way, I'd be shocked if he doesn't get offered and renews a new contract after his start to this season.

To be fair the season (18/19) he broke his ankle he started 9 of the first 10 PL games, then lost 18 months. Also had two hamstring injuries in his time here which have seen him miss around 23 games on top of the 18 months.

Hard to get back in the side when you have been injured for the whole  first season of a new managers reign. I think he would have played a fair few more game without that moment of bad luck.

Still only 26 as well.

I’m here! I thought we looked very shaky defensively for most of the first half, but then definitely settled down. Amartey was ok. Soyuncu definitely has become more shaky than Amartey

Don't really agree with you on Big Dan overall, but kudos for patiently sticking to your view, whilst acknowledging new evidence as it happens.

We all have a dynamic assesment in our heads (see how we all realised Kel is not doggo), and it changes over time. I have finally seen evidence that has stopped me despairing over Madders, which is a massive relief.

On current form maybe he’s more than ‘just a squad player’ ???

He strikes me as being a bloomin’ good centre half who’d get a regular birth in quite a few PL teams

I have Big Dan in my dream team, obviously not because of clean sheets (as we don’t keep any), but because he is a beautiful human being with lots of character and is very cheap! Love you Big Dan!

It looks like Big Dan has played himself into a regular starter in the league. The choice tonight is Soyuncu and Vestergaard which implies Amartey will definitely start in the league game

Amartey is relatively reliable compared to other current options.   I know you are not his biggest fan. Despite rating him, I thought he may not fully recover from his time out injured.  The run of games he is getting may lead to is having a consistently able centre back.

Good to hear his contract actually runs until 2023, not quite as urgent to get him a new contract (but will still need sorting soon)

This is so danny Amartey; just has an extra year on his contract no one knows about.

great squad player over the years and now a genuine starter

I’m not sure I can ever forget Vestergards struggles. Bet he is on 60 grand a week

It's strange how it took us so long to play him as a centre back.

We messed about with him for a while in midfield where he never had the required creativity.

Then we tried him at RB where he started slowly, but was starting to look decent before his injury.

Then, finally, he gets a run at CB where he's often played for Ghana. I'm not totally convinced yet, but still only 26 and still improving. Already ahead of Vestergaard and, on this season's form only, more consistent than Soyuncu. Also, RCB seems an ideal position for him as you could never see him as a marauding full back in the modern sense, but he's more than just a static CB.

Likeable player who you just want to do well
