The back and forth though with "We've got XYZ123 out..." "WELL YEAH WE'VE GOT XYZ12345 OUT, TAKE THAT" just simply makes me question some people's life choices.

Is it a joke? I love a footy wind up and after reading some other tweets and stuff from the author I’m not 100% sure 😂

Two things strike me

  • Where is Liverpool? Think about what they have achieved with so little and so many injuries FGS :mad:
  • Chelsea are winning, rendering the poll null and void and naught but a fan click fest

 

We have the most talent to potentially field the best two-way defense in the PL, with five excellent-to-elite starters protected by Ndidi.

 

Hope we can remove the “potentially” soon, and prove it on the pitch!

I know I read the comments it was just funny as a lot of people are focusing on what players they don’t have when they still have s decent team they will put out.

I think it's just tongue in cheek. Like it's obviously a joke but the sentiment is sincere.

 

But then this forum whines about every referee too, I'm calling it a wash.

I'm optimistic but **** me, you've managed to turn the best chance in years into a banana skin cup tie that we can't celebrate even if we win.

At what point does this thread become more than just: ‘early thoughts’ and is elevated to the status of: ‘thoughts’ or even ‘pre-match thread’?

Good question. It becomes thoughts at 00.01 Thursday. Then evolves into pre match at 0.01 Friday. At that point it is appropriate to become anxious once again as a City game approaches.
 

Hope that provides some much needed clarity.

Every team's fans do this, it's utterly pathetic lol 

 

X team have [INSERT REF HERE]. Fans stock responses: "We're gonna lose" "He hates us" "He's shit" ad infinitum. It's almost as if there are a limited number of elite referees and you might get one more than once in a season.

Jürgen Klopp will fear Liverpool's injury record, but Leicester have concerns about their own

 

Jürgen Klopp is dealing with a raft of injuries ahead of Sunday's match against Leicester, but Brendan Rodgers has plenty of concerns of his own

 

 

Another day, another injury scare. It has been the reality for Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool all season. Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and on and on it rolls. All four will be out for the next couple of weeks, missing at least five games -- Van Dijk and Gomez will miss the whole season.

And there have been plenty of other knocks and nicks along the way. Fabinho continues to battle an injury. The initial, public diagnosis on Thiago Alcantara proved to be wrong; he is said to be available for the game against Leicester on Sunday, but given the timeline so far, who knows?

And then there is Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson. Both players have dealt with hamstring tweaks while on international duty. Their status for this weekend is unknown.

And then there is Mohamed Salah, who tested positive for COVID-19 while on international duty with Egypt. The Egyptian FA is confident that Salah will be cleared later this week, but his status is still up in the air.

All in all, Liverpool currently have nine injuries/medical issues on the books, the most in the Premier League. And that’s without mentioning Naby Keita or Joel Matip, a pair of players who have continued to battle injuries this season and throughout their Liverpool careers. Neither can exactly be described as reliable.


That makes eleven (11!) players that are either already ruled out or who the manager will have reservations about as he tries to plot a team for Sunday.

The Leicester game is massive, as massive as one-off Premier League games can be in a 38-game title-race. It kicks off a tricky December, and will be Klopp’s sternest test before he is able to cobble together some rest for his at-their-limit players. Post-Leicester, Klopp will have a chance to rotate players against Brighton and in a pair of Champions League matches -- with qualification beyond the group stage all-but assured at this point.

But, to be able to confidently rotate in the league, Klopp will need his side to come through the Leicester match unscathed, both in terms of the result and further injuries.

It’s not just Klopp who has fitness worries ahead of Sunday, though. Like Liverpool, Leicester are dealing with a batch of knocks to crucial players.

That should come as nothing new to Brendan Rodgers, who watched his team's delightful start to last season be torpedoed by injuries. Things are just as rough this go-around, despite another excellent start.

 

Leicester is currently dealing with six injuries in total, the majority to important players: Çağlar Söyüncü is out with a groin injury; Timothy Castagne is out with a thigh injury; Wesley Fofana is out with a knee injury; Ricardo Pereira is out with a knee injury; Wilfred Ndidi has a groin injury; Daniel Amartey has a hamstring injury.

There is a chance Pereira returns in time for Sunday. But is it fair or reasonable to expect a player to return from a knee injury, someone who is unlikely to be at 100% fitness, and then stick them up against Sadio Mané? Probably not. Rodgers will likely give Pereira an extra week to recuperate.

The rest of those on the injured list are all out, out. And you could potentially add Kasper Schmeichel to that list, who was removed from a Danish international match after sustaining a blow to the head. Schmeichel said he felt “very good” the morning after he took the blow to the head. But Leicester will rightly be cautious with their goalkeeper -- there’s a chance that former he’ll-get-his-chance-as-Liverpool’s-number-one ‘keeper, Danny Ward, could line-up for Rodgers and co. on Sunday.

It’s not only the volume of injuries for Leicester but it’s the ‘who’. Söyüncü has been one of the league’s best central defender for 14-months. Pereira is a core part of the team’s build-up play down the flanks. Ndidi is tasked with covering an awful lot of ground in Leciester’s new 5-4-1 system that essentially pushes two of the three central midfielders into out-and-out striker roles -- free-10s, in the Rodgers parlance. Castagne has been the team's creative fulcrum down the left.

It is particularly rough to lose a shuttling midfielder, a feisty right-back, an essential left-back, and a quality centre-back against this Liverpool side; one that is built on pace and width and moving the ball at lightning speed it tight, confined areas.

Rodgers has proven that he can adapt his style. He has molded a system to fit the layers he does have, and the team has been exceptional. They’re top of the league, scoring the same number of goals as Liverpool (18) while conceding half the number that Klopp’s side has shipped (9). The advanced, nerdy metrics paint them as a serious title-contender; they have hit all of the necessary benchmarks at this stage of the season.

But while the attention here has been on Liverpool’s defensive issues and what that might mean against a side featuring Jamie Vardy, James Maddison, Dennis Praet et al. it’s just as important to note that Leicester will be without a trio of players essential to Rodgers’ style of play.

I don't get why more people don't realise this. They just say controversial/incorrect drivel just to rile people up and drive traffic to them. It's so obvious and yet our fan base is one of the worst for falling for it time and again.

I’m hopeful that Fofana will be OK (ditto for Schmeichel after his knock).

 

Obviously Ndidi is a way off, and we won’t see Soyuncu either for a bit.

 

Can’t see Ricardo being thrown back in after 8 months out either. 
 

Also got my fingers crossed Castagne might be back - would be a big boost.

I think they may be jumping the gun by stating on their website, how would they be privy to our potential injuries?
