Loved Middlefield Lane the games against Nuneaton on Boxing Day / New Years Day were always great. The place was falling to bits. They had crowds touching 3k when they were at Leicester Road. Such a shame it became so messy with ownership. They were paying above their means
Long Eaton Fox Posted 16 November 2017 Share Posted 16 November 2017 Just been looking at some of his goals and he looks an amazing talent. Looks a little like Tom Lawrence but with more power, pace and invention. Lawrence went for around £5m. This guy can go all the way and can become priceless. I played with him a few times in Hinckley's reserve side when I was 18/19. He was very much a first team player (I definitely wasn't ) but he was in his very late 30s at that time and didn't train much because of long-standing injuries so he played for the ressies now and again to maintain his fitness. Unsurprisingly (being 20+ years apart in age) we weren't exactly best mates but he was a nice guy from what I remember, always giving advice on the pitch and didn't think he was God's gift because he'd played in the league. Didn't appreciate it at the time but you could tell he'd played at a very high level because he never lost the ball and had the knack of being in the right place at the right time without running much. I must have played in the same side as him 5 or 6 times and I don't think I saw anyone manage to tackle him. Wymsey Posted 17 November 2017 Share Posted 17 November 2017 At the moment, it seems that he's more highly-rated than King was at his age - and look at what the latter has achieved. Really hope he doesn't get overlooked in a few years' time, if he continues to develop well, and follow in King's footsteps in a successful career at the top level. TJB-fox Posted 17 November 2017 Share Posted 17 November 2017 (edited) For years and years we had to watch negative, sideways tripe on the wings- Momo Sylla and Josh Low spring to mind. Great to finally have positive, attack minded wingers who really get at their opposite man in the squad and looks like we have another one here. Not the fastest but has great movement and drives the ball forward with purpose. Hope he doesn't turn out the way Lawrence did here. Popular Post Foxxed Posted 19 November 2017 Popular Post Share Posted 19 November 2017 https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/142/Show/England-Barnsley According to Whoscored he's their fifth best player with the most assists and only one goal away from joint top scorer. He's fast becoming the best player in a mid table championship team. And he's 19, getting first team football, after forcing his way in the team, will surely improve and we're not even half way through the season. I suspect the Barnsley fans saying he's lazy and only turns up win matches are the same kind who voted Mahrez down in our title winning season. He will surely be top championship side quality by the end of season, and then careful management at the start of next season could see him fitting in to the premier league. Gray, Barnes, Ndidi and Chilwell could give us an incredibly exciting and youthful future.
Ted Maul Posted 19 November 2017 Share Posted 19 November 2017 Seems to be able to adapt and improve to each step up he makes- our youth sides, England youth sides, League 1 and Championship. Very good signs, sounds like he's developing nicely. There's a long way to go for him, but it would be great to have a local lad in the side and pushing for an England place.
