we camp in France a lot for holidays and always end up socialising with people but maybe that's because we're all outside and not shut away indoors.

normally end up befriending the eurocamp couriers which means free booze and occasionally a bit of weed.

went gorge-scrambling and sky-diving with some people on the pitch next to us one year and ended up climbing a mountain with a lad from the site a couple of years back.

are we really saying that you shouldn't make friends on holiday? bit of a weird thing to get hung up on lol.

Making friends on hols is fine, as is socialising, its really more the ones who go completely of out their way to make holiday pals over spending time with those they are with. Me and my wife work longs hours and are pretty much zombies most evenings so its rare we get 1-2 weeks of consecutive quality time together. I dunno, I'd just rather spend it with her than with complete strangers the whole time?

Or maybe I'm just an antisocial bastard lol

Random thought of the day (which I admittedly cant articulate well enough) - I dont get couples who crave the company of others on holiday. You know the types - you bump into someone you were on a different excursion with a few days earlier and they talk about another 'lovely couple' they had dinner with last night whereby the more exotic the place they are from the better. As if just to say 'we make friends everywhere'. Or said couple are just sick of each others company. Or a bit of both.

We usually go with friends on holiday,so tend to keep to ourselves, but been in skiing chalets with others in years gone by,but mainly thought they were idiots.Full of themselves and I have a knack of homing in on them and taking the piss.

However,we met some people in weird circumstances years ago and still see each other loads and the nicest couple ever.

years ago went to Thailand and this couple and their daughter were lost, heard him muttering and he mentioned where he wanted to get to,which coincidentally was where we were going( we knew the way)Got chatting on the sky train, found out he lived 20 miles the other way of Cambridge to me where I sometimes do some work.

Asked where he was going after Bangkok, and he was going to Koh Samui( probably 90 minute flight) only a few doors away from us in the same hotel ?

Kids we’re getting on great, but we just let each other get on with our day and would have a beer or two before we left the pool,by the end of the holiday this started lunchtime.

still see each other and I drop in for coffee if I’m in the area.

Won’t go into details but they move in different circles to us due to vast wealth, not a clue until we visited the first time, but one thing he said to me and I took as a huge compliment that from the first time we shared a beer,he knew we would see each other ,and that I was one of the only people he mixes with where he could relax in there company. What a bloke( or idiot)

Doesnt matter about £s if you click you click.

America has 5% of the World's population, yet 25% of its prisoners.

That's a pretty incredible statistic. It doesn't help that they impose sentences of 100 years plus I suppose.

We'd also have a lot more prisoners in the UK if we had any money or more space I imagine. Still, 25%, that's pretty shocking.

I agree completely, I do not want to mix with other English people on holiday and will go out of my way to avoid them, the “where are you from?” and “What do you do for a living?” questions are so tiresome, I go away to get away from all that, I’m anti social I guess, but I’m happy like that.

Brits abroad are the worst people on the planet.

Apart from Russians abroad.

And Americans abroad.

Probably has more to do with the fact that their prisons are typically for-profit businesses...

That's pretty much it.

Economics 101: people getting paid to put people away will naturally ensure there is a healthy supply of people to be put away.

I am currently in a resort that is surprisingly almost entirely made up of (quite classy) Germans.

Bit weird to be in a minority, but apart from that, it’s actually really nice. Would happily do it again.

For a change I thought I'd mix it up by making a Moscow Mule. Damn this stuff is awesome.

That is unbelievably freaky:  I read this post and not knowing what a Moscow Mule is decided to google it.  Pretty normal stuff.  What's bizarre though is that I'm watching an episode of Better Call Saul on the other half of the screen and I came across this post during a scene  where Kim is at a bar drinking a distinctive looking cocktail out of a copper mug and all of the image results for Moscow Mule look exactly like what she's drinking (season 2 ep 6 about half an hour in if anybody wants to verify).  Spooky.
