Nicolo Barella Posted 29 December 2018 Posted 29 December 2018 Claude mentioned fatigue in the press conference. Expect rotation. I hope Soyuncu gets minutes - not because Morgan hasn't been doing a great job, because he's been at his best, but because I want Soyuncu to get as much playing time as possible this season. Zohore and Patterson are doubts for Cardiff. Their two first and second choice strikers. If we don't win I'll be rather disappointed.

They defend well and are well coached, they will sit back & make us try and break them down hoping to catch us on the counter. We absolutely need to get an early goal to change the way Cardiff play. Cardiff will play, 11 me behind the ball they would gladly take a point away from home,

Ceirboy Posted 29 December 2018 Posted 29 December 2018 Morning. I think it's fair to say that whatever team CP puts out, he will get hammered for it if the style of play and result isn't a positive one. I'm certainly not a believer in this game being a gimme either, no game is. You don't get to be in the Premier League by accident but he must not forget the attacking style that has just resulted in 2 wins and a draw. The front 4 are like whippets, they are born to run, make the game all about forward passing and encourage everyone to move up 5 yards and the chances will come. Some of the recent football has been awful to watch, rotten, sideways and backward mediocrity. It belies the talents of the players on the field. Occasionally, you must trust their instincts and abilities and let them decide how a particular game is to be played. I'm not saying let them go all out FIFA19, just let them work out what needs to be done to get the desired result. Too many occasions this year, I have seen players frozen on the spot, too scared to leave the space they've been told to occupy at any cost and then the not particularly creative midfield has no outlet. Even my missus and kids know what will happen when the ball eventually comes out of midfield. They say Maddison will drop his shoulder and draw a foul because there is nothing else on, no-one dares take a risk, so even the opposition know that as long as Maddison is marked, they'll be okay. Today's game is a perfect opportunity for Puel to trust his men, let them decide as a unit on the best way to tackle Cardiff. A solid, creative performance, tinged with attack and flair will be a lot harder for Neil Warnock to plan for than the crab-like, pedestrian offerings often seen during Puel's tenure.

Ric Flair Posted 29 December 2018 Posted 29 December 2018 Standard 2-0 win and an early goal by Maguire

You're right, Puel did mention fatigue and if players are rotated/rested, it will be based on the knowledge and bio data they are regularly checked for these days and will be for a good reason. It's not just been the frequency of our recent matches but the extra effort spent in them against top class opposition to achieve the results we did. All this nonsense about not changing a winning side is a great concept but not always a realistic proposition. Different tactics are also perhaps required, again with full managerial and coaching staff overview and with due regard to what players are available on the day. We can sit in our armchairs and pontificate sagely about tactics and teams selections as much as we like but really, we base those things upon the flawed half knowledge and expertise of the rank amateur. Occasionally you can see a manager like Peter Taylor who is so far out of his depth that the whole of a teams fan forum are in agreement. I think there's a long way to go with this manager before we reach that stage. If we draw or lose today it really isn't the end of the world again, just a minor set back on our journey. Personally I think we're due for a dour unentertaining afternoon with a one goal victory or draw due to the mindset of the opposition. I can't blame them, they've spent little or no money and Warnock is in my opinion doing a very good job there and they're fighting for survival, it won't be easy. There again, we could have a complete goal fest and come home and get bladdered ????
Blue Ed Posted 29 December 2018 Posted 29 December 2018 Hmmm have to say this will be a big test. They'll have 11 behind the ball and we'll have all the possession... Strap yourself in people if we don't perform its likely to get a bit messy on here later . Personally I'd like to see Iborra and Gray start these games and Sinji to come in if there's no Vardy.
Haywood_6 Posted 29 December 2018 Posted 29 December 2018 Cardiff will try and make it a physical and uncomfortable game for us. As all of warnock teams usually do. He'll probably have them eating raw meat in the changing room like a pack of crazed animals
Clarkey123 Posted 29 December 2018 Posted 29 December 2018 Can’t take Cardiff for granted or I fear them doing to us what we did to man city and Chelsea. I’d go for minimal changes and rest only who is an absolute necessity

AlloverthefloorYesNdidi Posted 29 December 2018 Posted 29 December 2018 I want Puel to ring the changes. Never change, Claude Want to see Iheanacho lead the line so I can watch from the stands and see if he appears lazy when you're actually there,
reynard Posted 29 December 2018 Posted 29 December 2018 Hopefully not a case of "after the lord mayor's show" but we've had 2 very intense matches and they will be obdurate and hard to break down. We need to score an early goal to get them to open up. Expect a close game with one goal in it either way. They are not as bad as some on here make out.
Sunbury Fox Posted 29 December 2018 Posted 29 December 2018 I'd go for: Kasper Ric Soyüncü Harry Chilwell Maddison Ndidi Albrighton Ghezzal Gray Ian Think we definitely need attacking full backs in this game where we can expect to have a lot of the ball. Have suggested Soyüncü because his pace will be useful to combat the counter attack style we can expect from Cardiff and because Wes probably needs a break, despite his excellent recent form. Would also like to see Maddison given a go in a deeper playmaker role, similar to how he played at Norwich. This could work well in a game where we should dominate possession. That would allow Ghezzal to play as a 10, where he did really well against Burnley, I thought. He looks a more natural 10 than a winger to me. The one worry about the line up is Ian playing alone up front but can't see Vardy being able to play today and at Everton.

Md9 Posted 29 December 2018 Posted 29 December 2018 Gone for a 3-0 win on super 6 today so come on city. Fancy a wilf thunderbolt today
bovril Posted 29 December 2018 Posted 29 December 2018 I'm not sure any match reminds me of my mid to late twenties more than Leicester vs Cardiff. Really hope we stuff them today.
Deeg67 Posted 29 December 2018 Posted 29 December 2018 48 minutes ago, Swan Lesta said: Anybody think Vardy will play today? As I said earlier, I fully expect him to be rested (though available as a reserve) and for Puel to be roasted for doing so. 4 games in 11 days for a guy with a groin problem isn't realistic, and he's absolutely essential for the Everton match where we'll likely deploy the same formation we did against Chelsea and Man City. I'd really like to see Shinji and Nacho together for this one - that could be very effective against Cardiff parking the bus.
Babylon Posted 29 December 2018 Posted 29 December 2018 Don't mind him resting a couple, but I hope it's not the full backs. So much of our good play comes through them, if we go with Fuchs and Simpson it's going to stunt us in attack.
lcfcsnow Posted 29 December 2018 Posted 29 December 2018 We've only scored more than two in a match once this season, I want to see some goals.
