Brendon Rodgers style is more possession based again and would take time which our fans don’t give I can't believe I just read "Benitez" and "attacking style" in the same sentence.

The only place he hasn't possessed a attacking style of play is at Newcastle. Which is fair enough and justified.

His modus operandi is defend first, defend second, score third. People don't know what they're wishing for. In addition, appointing someone like Benitez would mean all Puel's squad building would go to waste. He also is renowned for not developing youth. People would get sick of him even quicker than Puel.

We're better than Newcastle in the "attacking players" department but not by much. I doubt he would turn us into an attacking powerhouse.

He insists on a conservative, slow style of football with a squad that has won the premier league playing the exact opposite. To be fair, there's quite a difference playing fast, counterattacking football with Kante and Mahrez in your team compared with Ghezzal and Mendy. The odds of it succeeding are greatly increased if those two are present. It comes back again to the brief he was given. Was he told to evolve to a more possession based game and bringing very young talent through? Also, was he given a time limit to transition successfully? If he was, it's harsh to judge him as the sole failure and recruitment (between 2016 and his arrival) is actually our biggest downfall. You'd have to think that is what was discussed with Puel when he was interviewed. If not, then he is the stubborn ass that he's made out to be.
Steve Earle Posted 22 December 2018 Posted 22 December 2018 It's the lack of visible progress that erodes faith. I can see what he's trying to do and admire that; I'm even happy with last summer's recruitment and that we'll only really see the best of this group next season. But we're not visibly moving forwards. And the two QFs v Man City were just infuriating and clueless. I still suspect he has the season but probably has to have an outstanding second half of the season to earn another year. If he goes I'd love Benitez here. Rodgers or Bielsa wouldn't be bad either.
C.J Posted 22 December 2018 Posted 22 December 2018 Should we just make Vardy player/manager? He seems to have control anyway with Kasper.
StriderHiryu Posted 22 December 2018 Posted 22 December 2018 Three more defeats in a row followed by a new manager appointment in early 2019 then it seems...
BenTheFox Posted 22 December 2018 Posted 22 December 2018 I do think Benitez would suit our current squad, but I don't want him here. That's not because he isn't a good manager because he is. Just think it would be a massive shame to move away from the good work we're doing in trying to promote young players.
Max Wall Posted 22 December 2018 Posted 22 December 2018 Who has @AlloverthefloorYesNdidi tied up in a basement? This thread was made for him.
Nicolo Barella Posted 22 December 2018 Posted 22 December 2018 He will stay here over the summer, be given the window to finish our transition to a team of good, possesion based players, and be given next season to succeed with them. If it doesn't work out next season, then Puel will get sacked.
ealingfox Posted 22 December 2018 Posted 22 December 2018 Also let's not dress it up - Vardy has been a fvcking prat here.

Is that the be all and end all ‘promoting young players’? And has he actually done that?; not sure he has to any great extent. Chilwell was playing last season.
Farrington fox Posted 22 December 2018 Posted 22 December 2018 Don’t particularly like Puel, but wtf is it coming to when players dictate which managers are a success here or not!
Grebfromgrebland Posted 22 December 2018 Posted 22 December 2018 Something doesn't add up with Vardy. He's had as many big chances as he's ever had the difference is that he's missing them or cocking them up more often. He can't complain about the style of play when teams know to defend deep against him and that nullifies his main strength.
Max Wall Posted 22 December 2018 Posted 22 December 2018 2 minutes ago, ealingfox said: Also let's not dress it up - Vardy has been a fvcking prat here. Yep. Senior pros know what they're doing when they're making comments to media people. It's so disappointing that the club, as a whole, don't seem to have been pulling in the same direction for quite some time. That can't all be laid at Puels door as it seemed to start long before his arrival.

I'm just biding my time to see how the chips fall before I weigh in like captain hindisght Actually not sure what to make of all this. People keep yapping to the press and its not good. If Puel takes the hit and we have a couple of good games before hoofball to start failing again i'll be fuming And as to Vardy, if he's not happy then get rid, only good for penalties anyway

And now there are suggestions he has also lost the staff and the dressing room he needs to go now Annnnnnnnnnnnnd breathe. 5 hours ago, Hollyfox said: Just get him as a revenge attack after they took Mark McGee ? Mate, they did us the biggest of favours - we recruited MON to replace him and the rest is history. 2 hours ago, Le god said: You are so wrong, HIRING puel in the first place put Southampton on the road to where they are now Southampton were 6th with a fast high tempo attacking entertaining style... And puel turned them into a dour boring pedestrian team, 18 points worse off than the previous season Puel started the rot which other managers since haven't been able to reverse again 3 I would argue that selling all their best players to Liverpool put them on the road to where they are now.
