Jamie Vardy Appreciation

Recommended Posts

Genuinely beyond me how he's scored so many and it top goalscorer at the moment playing in this negative style.

Perhaps he's found or had to find a way of fitting into it.

We've seen him for England be starved of chances, under Puel he was starved of chances, arguably under Rodgers he is.

Shows how good he is.

Any word on the injury? Sometimes Adrenalin can see you through (and 17 cans of Red Bull) but I feared it was cracked ribs. And can we get a formal answer as to why the club doctor (I presume) was called out of his Scott Of The Antartic theme party to come and observe. Nearly as bad as Chelsea's Cup Final Chav-suits...but not quite.

As bad as the Fofana injury was for disrupting the teams confidence and momentum, seeing Vardy lying on the pitch in obvious agony was up another level. Not helped when that Ghost Buster waddled on.

Relief when he got up was an understatement. :sweating:

Got to be honest, I thought our season was going from bad to disastrous when he stayed down.

It is phenomenal to see him as joint top scorer when we've been so bad. Seeing Kelechi play so well is also equally crazy.

Goes to show that if the rest of the team were up to par like those two are, we'd be flying!

Bizarrely though when we're playing badly, losing the game in the centre of the park, not having much possession and hoofing it long and into the channels almost plays into his hands... That's his game. I'm not surprised at all.

vardy would score even more than he does for us at Burnley. (What an atrocious thought!)

I didn’t think he’d do so well this season but happy to be proved wrong. Just seems to be so much better when Barnes plays regardless if Barnes is doing it. Thought he scuffed his finish a bit today but they all count!

Both Goals by Jamie and Kelechi were of the highest quality today. We're are so lucky to have both of them.

Neither were fazed by the one on one with the keeper and took their chances well. Especially Kelechi, The speed he closed down the CB to win the Ball was lightning fast. Then he took his shot early before the Keeper could set himself.

Jamie opened his body to fool the keeper into thinking that he was going to shoot to the keepers left then dragged it to his right.

We can't afford to lose either one of them to injury.

Absolutely insane. 8 behind Harry Kane in terms of goal involvement since August 2017 and third overall, in an era where he was out of favour at times under Puel! What a player he is and no signs of slowing down yet!

We say Kane, Salah and Sterling are world class so there can be no argument when the question is asked about Vardy.

Thats quite disrespectful to our greatest of all time and one of the best strikers in the Premier league era to say ‘that’s his game’.

We played counter attack under Ranieri and he smashed it - ‘hes suited more to counter attack game’.

We play the most boring defensive football with 3 DMs with Puel, he still scores for fun.

We then get Brendan in and play free flowing attacking passing football , less on the counter..completely different style, he scores 27 goals in 29 games late 18/19 to Xmas 19/20.

We play counter attack he scores, we play defensive he scores, we play progressive passing possession football he scores, then now we play a useless passing slow nothing type style(I don’t have a clue what style we’ve been trying the last year or so) but he STILL scores..

Vards is an absolute brute of a striker and finisher and it’s because he’s such a top knotch striker that at 34 going on 35 and clearly not the energetic fresh rapid guy of yesteryear still manages to get so many goals in such little chances.

You say he would score in a team like Burnley because it’s ‘his game’. So does that mean you think he wouldn’t score many in a Man City or Man Utd where they dominate the ball and create so much?

He would score 20+ without a sweat in any top team and probably more even now at 34/35. Prime Vardy? Not even a question.

His best he shown was between when Brendan come in till he got injured against Liverpool in December 2019 - 27 in 29 games and flying in a team playing polar opposite to ‘not much possession, hoofing it long’ which destroys any narrative that he’s just a counter attacking player.

According to stats He had 10 touches today 3 of them was shots at goal makes it a little more remarkable

Thank the lord we still have vardy or otherwise we would be propping the league up.

If the players upped their games to his standard we wouldn't be in this mess.

He's the best ever leicester player we have seen or will see. Ever.

Corrected it for you :)

🤨 It was meant as a compliment to JV Fella....

Wasn’t a go at you, just think the stats and history show that the classic ‘Vardy plays on the counter attack and needs long balls to run into the channels’ is utter rubbish.

He averaged nearly 1 a game over nearly a full season playing a possession based style and if it wasn’t for some injuries and lockdown, was on to break the prem all time season record playing that way.

Hes just a lot more than a ‘kick it in the channels’ guy.

He scored 24 playing counter attack style.

He scored 23 playing a passing possession style.

Vards in his prime especially is simply a world class number 9. World class finisher with unique speed and stamina, combined with a very good understanding of positioning himself  and timing of runs and movement. He’s the whole package.
