And started meaningful games in july. It will have a bearing on any prem side. One of the reason 7/10th seem to stop playing as no one really wants it. Wonder how we would have done with ten players at the WC.

How can you blame that on an entire season? They were knocked out in August, I'll give you maybe had a slight effect earlier in the season but it was a world cup year most teams were in a similar boat with knackered players like

Everton interested in signing Zaha. Looks like we're going to have tough competition from them for top 6.

Would be amazed if Zaha went there think he is looking to stay in London,  don't think he enjoyed the area when he was at united,

Still expect Sheff Utd. to surprise a few, not least because while "unproven" at Prem level, they seem to have goals in their side up top. It's quite remarkable that Billy Sharp has never had a chance at Premier League level before, save for two appearences for Southampton.

Just come off the back of his best ever goal return at Championship level too - him and McGoldrick have a classic little / large partnership and got 37 goals between them in 18/19.

I'd be astounded if they do any good, might be competitive like Cardiff but they'll still be bang in the shit. You can't expect the likes of Sharp and McGoldrick to score regularly at this level, certainly not both of them.

As with all things, time will tell. Nobody gave Bournemouth a cat's chance in hell when they came up either, and theirs is a similar story in terms of the playing staff and the leagues they found themselves in, albeit without Sheffield United falling quite so low.

Calling it now as a conservative estimate - one or both will get double figures.

Good luck to them but honestly doubt they will even get half of that return this season

Agree. I still find it funny that Zaha wanted to leave for CL football. Nobody was interested apart from Arsenal on a cut price deal. All of a sudden Zaha becomes a lifelong Arsenal supporter and wants to leave minus the CL. Now Everton are interested,  how can Zaha spin this without looking a fool.

Nor me, but a return of 20 between them would be enough to have Sheff Utd. picking up some vital points. The team plays positive football by all accounts, though admittedly there's a dearth of goals elsewhere in the squad. They'd be mad to make wholesale changes to a squad that plays well together, a la Fulham.

I just don't see the comparisons between them and some less successful promoted sides in recent times (Huddersfield and Cardiff both spring to mind) in as much as they've been banging in goals in the previous season. History suggests that teams that "have a go" will do well and settle into the league if they don't show their new rivals too much respect - Bournemouth and Wolves being prime examples. The days of teams coming up, "doing a Stoke" and staying up for a decade of attrition are long over I suspect.

In fact, I can only really think of Blackpool in the past decade that have gone down playing positive football. And even they went down by one point with a respectable 39pts, which would be plenty for survival most seasons. They had DJ Campbell up front and he still bagged 13 goals, for christ's sake. Gary Taylor Fletcher got 6. lol

Edit - the highest tally was West Ham with 42, my bad.

Idrissa Gana Gueye off to PSG for £28m it seems. Will they replace him?

That's not too bad a price; he's got a few years left at a decent level as well. But can see why they've sold.

They surely need to replace him?

This seems a bit absurd considering the amount of clubs that have bookies as sponsors.

He represents a betting company literally every single time he goes out in an Everton shirt

Stoke literally have a stadium named after a betting company as well lol

Betting companies and unethical player agents have wuite effectively ruined/spoilt the beautiful game. It's quite disgraceful, really.

Both of them weren't very much involved at all say before 2013, and the decades before that, when the game was more 'free' and easier to be involved in as a fan compared to now.

Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick sounds like one of the worst Striker partnerships in premier league history, but we'll see.

Sure plenty of people will have  said that about Chris Wood / David Nugent / Jamie Vardy / Leonardo Ulloa.

Ultimately, Sheffield United’s season will depend on how well they do in there mini-season against this seasons’ bottom six sides.

Brammall Lane is likely to be a tricky place to travel to, so anything is possible.

Only way to even start to combat that is to stop clubs being sponsored by betting companies. But saying that, even the league is going to be sponsored by ladbrokes.
