Apparently he tried  ticking a box in training on Thursday but almost broke the lead in his pencil. Fortunately it was iced and turned to be just light bruising.

I don't understand the animosity towards Matty on this forum.Through no fault of his own he got injured while in the employ of LCFC & has worked hard to regain fitness. I realize he had a very good paycheque coming in while he went through rehab but I'm sure it wasn't what he wanted to be doing. I have my doubts that he can become a regular first team player but he certainly is doing no-one on this forum any harm.  I just feel that certain posters just come here to hate.

I mean he did nothing wrong in the short time he was on the pitch did he? Good to see him back playing - might potentially see him again against Birmingham but other than that I can’t see him being involved again this season. 
 

I really hope he’s back for good this time and can salvage some sort of career - whether that be here or more likely in the championship.

Brendan Rodgers wouldn’t speak about him the way he does if he wasn’t an absolute technician. Brendan doesn’t gush over every player in our squad. Matty James is a quality footballer, if he was fortunate enough to have a body robust enough to play regular football, more people would get to know it. First game in the Premier League in over 2 years, what does he do? Cushions a lovely chest to Chilwell whilst being put under pressure. Class.

Would be a nice story if he was able to force his way back into the side, tho I think he is destined for a move to somewhere like Burnley in the Summer. That's if Beaglehole doesn't need him for the u23 title push.

Amen. There are some utter uncaring arsewipes on this forum. Matty should have gone on to have a much better career than he has, he had serious talent. It's a damn shame about the injuries.

Absolutely right and not only does Rodgers appear to rate him but, when he became available before,  he was preferred to the expensive signing Silva and also Iborra so he can't be that shabby a player.

Anyone who slags off Matty James is a moron. 

 

In the past, he has more than justified his footballing ability, not just at Championship level, but was arguably one of our most consistent performers in our first season back up, monumental in the great escape (before his injury) and also performed well for a short time under Puel before injury again. 

 

To battle back how he has and force his way back into the reckoning after so many injuries is testament to his mental strength and his drive to continue his career. Like some have said, he could easily toss it off, sit on his contract and call it a day but he's done far from that and every manager that has come in has always praised his attitude. 

 

For me, as long as he's fit, he should always be considered for first team action. A fit Matty James is better than Choudhury and Mendy.

Happy to welcome him back given his injury horrors and lengthy time off. It is a testament to his character and determination. 

 

But it feels like years since he played regularly so in terms of quality, I'll need to be convinced that he has enough of it these days to compete in a squad challenging for Europe. I do trust Rodgers though so happy to back him in how he thinks James can fit in. Part of me does think though that he only got the chance to play because all other central midfielders had been used or weren't available. 

 

Let's face it, if Mendy or Choudhury were available, I very much doubt James gets near the subs bench. Ndidi obviously would have played if available. For James, I think it's fortunate there were injuries and suspensions that coincided with being fit again.

Matty is a genuinely top bloke. I bumped into him a few months back in Manchester, he was out with his other half, he had the decency to come over and speak to me even if my initial reaction was “**** me that’s Matty James”.... he has had a horror show when it comes to injuries, but he’s recent injury actually has nothing to do with his knees, he said it’s down to his ankle on this occasion, but to avoid any issues long term he has had to be fully rehabilitated again, the theory being he won’t have put his knee under any real stress. He speaks very openly about how it has made him feel and I think he has struggled a bit mentally due to having so many recurring injuries. 
 

He’s a pretty intelligent chap and isn’t giving up on his career, I’d be over the moon for him if he could stay injury free for the remainder of the season, or even his career. He’s a very decent footballer, I just grimace every time he starts to run.... hopefully his injuries are behind him, and he can pick up some form and get back into the team!

It's nice for James to come back and get into a match, but the reality is that any minutes he gets are likely taken directly from Praet, who deserves more than he's getting already.  And if you believe that's a good thing, let's just say I vehemently disagree.

James is a player I admire a lot. He must have terrific mental strength to keep bouncing back and always getting himself to a standard where he is fit again to play. 

 

I really hope he can keep injury free and become a part of our squad. Like I say, although it wasn't long, in the 8 minutes he showed good confidence and composure. For a player who has been out for the length he has, it was great to see he could come on and immediately match the tempo of the game.

He's a popular member of the squad and has been through alot with his injuries, I think it's quite admirable the club has stood by a player they believe in and it sends a message to all the players and even possible signings that if they become a part of the squad and they're good lads even in the most unfortunate circumstances the club will look after them and give them fair chances to involve them in day to day and to rebuild their career.

 

On the last point it should get to a point now that if he can manage his injuries but can't add anything for the squad he should probably move on for regular football. We don't know as fans if he is up to it anymore yet, he did well in his first season in this League all them years ago but I agree it's highly unlikely he's good enough to start for us and should look to play regular first team football in his prime years.

 

So I see no negatives in him getting a cameo Saturday evening, it was years in the making and a huge moment for the guy to get back on the pitch. Now he's shipshape it's about deciding what's best for his career.

Great attitude.  The easy thing would have been to have just packed it all in but he has shown grit and determination in his fight to get back into the game.  It could not have been easy, watching his team mates win the league while he had his leg in plaster/supports, hobbling around on crutches for almost a whole year. Then continue watching as they embarked on a romp to the champions league QF, finally getting back to fitness only to be on the receiving end of another (different) long term injury.

 

For those that constantly call for him to be dumped off the wage bill, suggesting he is some sort of freeloader, i suspect that they would be outraged if they were off sick and were unceremoniously sacked simply because they were not fit to perform their full duties at work.  From everything i have heard, James has been in and around the squad and helping out with the youngsters etc, so despite not being able to play first team football all this while, it appears his contribution has been significant.

 

I for one wish him well, and hope he can now see out his career, whether here or elsewhere, free from further major injury.
