Absolute madness when we have goo.......decen......averag........qualifi........well referees sat in a room not making a decision or drawing lines to spot a nose hair offside. They'd be better served sat in rooms dotted round the country to cover something like this

To be fair, VAR was sold as something that was going to make decision making consistent. What has become clear is that most decisions in football are subjective. The way forward imo is either,

1) It is used only for decisions that are 100% factula. (Eg. Offsides even if it is 1mm).

2) is accepted for subjective decisions based on the assumption some decisions, whilst subjective are better considered under slow motion review.

I have come to terms with the fact that an element of subjectivity will remain in VAR decision making now and am much happier with it as a call consequence.

VAR will only improve when they stop using eunuchs to review the decisions. Indeed, once they remove the current referee element from the process altogether. There are enough retired refs with excellent track records who could do the job without worrying about shafting a colleague.

Indeed, the shift away from the simple offside rule to the "interfering with play" variations have made the decisions more subjective. VAR tries to make these type of decisions somehow more scientific, which is incongruous. Besides, if offsides are being judged to the millimetre, I'm not convinced it can freeze the frame at the precise millisecond when the ball is played. It needs the same precision throughout. In its current form it is flawed.

I don't know why they don't use the clear and obvious narrative for offsides. Just look at a still image and make a decison based on that, forget all the sodding lines and that. If it's very tight just go with the on field decision. Literally not one fan wants this sh*t.

I can't get my head around this.

The blue line is level with his knee. But his head it beyond the blue line and the red line by a fraction. Yet the red line is where the Sheff Utd player is supposedly standing.

 

Is it just some kind of weird perception from that sole angle they show because it isn't directly in line?

Wasn't sure if it was the camera angle that made it seem that his head is further over maybe? But still that's an incredibly tight decision.

This has got to be the worst implementation of VAR anywhere in the world, in any competition. So inconsistent. The VAR office should be manned by an independent set of ex refs, or possibly international officials to stamp out any hint of bias and restore a sense of fairness.

 

How could they possibly have looked at the Soyuncu incident and not ruled it an infringement? The only possible explanation is that perhaps they saw something else, offside or something. It would help if there was a word of explanation on the big screen.

How far back do you go to look for offside after a goal? The Sheffield Utd disallowed goal was so tight, but the offside player cross it straight into the head of a defender, who then clear it straight to a Sheffield Utd player, who start the move for the goal. When the defender clears it, shouldn't it be a new situation? 

 

The rules needs to be clear and the refs should explain their decisions. VAR in PL is in a weird place right now, but the inconsistent ref decisions doesn't help.

Nah, the worse VAR is in Aus and we've had 2 years to try and get right. We don't even have goal line technology.
