Englands left back 23 depends on the add ons 50m aint great

LUKE SHAW 30M 6 YEARS AGO

Ake 40m

Dunk40m

Tarkowski 50m value

Only 1 of the above has actually gone for that price.

The club has to be strong and resist any offers for any other key players this window, especially defenders.

£50m is plenty.

There is a global recession on, prices are not going to be what they were.

As context he’s about the same price as Werner who is a much better player and a striker to boot.

...if this was mirrored across the game in respect of prices then we will have to accept this!!!

The only problem is we are being quoted inflationary prices for average players and covid or not being in the Champions League does not appear to be a factor in the prices asked by clubs we are looking to buy from. Clubs have a right to ask whatever they like but we do not have to be bend the knee and thank them for the honour of fleecing us. £50m is not enough, not in a covid ravaged time or at anytime, in 2 years this price will double, with the Chelsea brand comes the premium price.

£50m lol

We've had a mare and been walked all over there. So much for naming our price and getting it

£50m a bit disappointing on the face of it.

Hopefully the add ons are realistic and likely to eventually net us £60m+

Tagliafico or Telles for half the money would soften the blow.

Bit more worrying is that it is now public knowledge that we could do with some cash, and some vultures might come looking at other assests in our squad. Hopefully not.

Think Chilwell will be a success at Chelsea, will be theirs and England’s starting LB for years to come ala Ashley Cole. Agree he’s not the finished article yet but the lads only 23 has plenty of scope to improve.

Can also see why he would want to go. As good as we have been we can’t compete with Chelsea in the immediate term, they will be challenging for CL year on year at a minimum whilst realistically we’re still aiming to break into the top 6 on a semi regular basis.

Not entirely convinced by the fee, think we’ll need more than £50mill to significantly improve our squad; LB, RW, CB as a minimum. Think we need £60 million+ to bring in the required players.

How exactly are we like Southampton, we sell one first team player every season. ONE, do people actually think we are in a position right now to keep our players and sign new ones? That's not happening until we are an established top 6 team, really I don't get what's so hard to understand about this

£50m + add ons  not bad if we have first team ready replacement / additions imminent. Hopefully it will be likes of Castagne or Tagliafico for LB and we must get a quality winger. All eyes on Congerton.

The problem is that this plan relies on thomas coming good, if he doesnt then we will need to spend more than 50 mil over the next 7 years to replace chilwell. If we got 65+ that would have been enough to sign tagliafico and fund a backup plan to thomas if he doesnt work out.

The club believe Thomas to be an even better prospect than Chilwell, that's some belief. Anyway, Tagliafico is 27 not 30. He could still be first choice in 4-5 years and then whats the issue? Don't forget if we were signing a standout 21/22 year old replacement, if they then performed how we would want them to do then they too would then likely be off for a huge fee in 2-3 years and we go again. If this helps us improve then thats the main thing, oh and also don't forget.. Chilwell wants this move and keeping him would be just as much of a gamble.

After this we should refuse to ever deal with Chelsea again. 3 players in 4 years is enough.

Didn’t Liverpool implement a Barca clause or something? Can’t remember who didn’t that now?

Could be an option tho, whack on an additional 25% to a players fee if he goes to Chelsea lol

Seems a tad light, if true. He’s still got one more huge move in him, potentially. Hope the ’add-ons  ’ include a sell-on %.

To let him go for John Stones money is ridiculous. We could have held out for £10 million more AT LEAST.

Perhaps its £50m up front and a further £10m next summer? We are usually good for demanding more up front than some. There was talk of a £64m deal so the add ons arou d £15m I'd have thought.

1. There has been a huge global recession. So forget what you know about player values till it settles down.

2. Ake is 25, a better player and 10 million cheaper. So not sure on your point there.

3. Dunk andn Tark have never had big money moves we were supposedly quoted those price by their clubs but that doesn't make them work 90 million. If you want to by my vw polo and I decide to quote you 50k that doesn't make the car worth that!

4. Luke Shaw was 18 and an absolutely frightening prospect before he broke his leg! Man United didn't pay 30 million for the fat useless version of luke Shaw you see now!

Is it either clubs interest to overstate the fee?  Chelsea don’t want to appear to be overpaying and we don’t want to be seen to have a huge wedge in our pockets when it comes to buying targets

it could be that both clubs have agreed for the lowest amount to be publicised at this stage

Such desperate clutching. You could make exactly the same argument about Maguire's fee but that wasn't understated. And funnily enough people in the game will know the fee whether its in The Telegraph or not.
