Possible 2nd lockdown for Leicester?

So Soulsby's spent all day doing media interviews telling people the stats aren't bad, and we don't need a lockdown and it won't help, and now the lockdown's extended, what is the chance people are going to obey it when the dear leader has told everyone here that is unnecessary? Cummings should absolutely have gone, but Soulsby's has been massively irresponsible today. He's shown appallingly bad leadership today. He should go.

The figures must be bad for this to be happening. Obviously Soulsby wants business in the city to get back to normal but I agree he has been very irresponsible today.

Blaming the government (and by extension their scientific advisers) is such a cheap shot. This virus spreads mainly because people don’t follow social distancing advice and take the necessary precautions that have been rammed home to them for weeks on end.

All these unbelievably stupid recent mass gatherings of people in parks, protest marches, beach trips and title celebrations etc are - as we have repeatedly been told until we are blue in the face - fertile feeding grounds for this horrendous disease.

People have to take responsibility for their own actions, not constantly bleat and moan about others. This country - and it would seem Leicester in particular right now - is full of selfish, self-righteous idiots.

Whilst the sentiment is largely correct the government carry the can for the actions of the people.

Late to lockdown, indecisive, ineffective in policing rule breakers, relaxing lockdown earlier than other countries.

One question. Why the fvck have they announced this at 10 at night and not at 4 in the afternoon?

Perhaps they were waiting for latest data ??

they seem to have gone a bit further than they trailed - maybe today’s data was even worse than they expected ......

Hancock mentioned a spike and outbreak in Leicester on 18th June when he just casually dropped it in a briefing. Here we are eleven days later.

to stop a mass exodus from the city?

Had holidays booked in lakes and scotland for 11-25 July, waited until last week to see if lockdown rules would let them be open, got confirmation last friday ok to go so paid out over £2K (obs all insurances now null and void as original booking had been cancelled but dates held just in case). Now being told can't leave the city. Good job my missus is visiting our daughter out of town toady and so is not going home. I am working in London and have essential worker travel rights so will stay down here. That way we avoid lockdown and can still go but feel for others in similar position who have just handed over their holiday payments as no refunds will be given if YOU can't go, only if accommodation/flights cancelled etc.

That said if i get pulled whilst there (number plate recognition etc) will plead the Cummins amendment.

Eleven days of unfettered transmission.

Baffling really.

After months in this situation, they the Go t. should of  be prepared, and more interfacing, around the country...Setting up Interfaces with Local authorities.

I reckon the govt, have closed their Eyes and hoped for the best....No One taking responsibility in the political, society consequences..!!

Proof...expecting to k.o Holiday preperations before, taking Education seriously, and Corvid-19 still Open questions across all its peoples..!!!

You have to be prepared even for dickheads, and outbreaks when this Virus is still in the Sphere of the unknown...

Look at Hancock's statement. It's a recommendation not to travel into or out of Leicester.

No legal enforcement whatsoever

Everything is always somebody else's fault these days.

More like they’re hoping everyone’s in bed and there won’t be a riot

As for closing non-essential shops, surely the masses will drive to the closest non-essential shop outside of Leicester.  Either that or drive back to Skegness.

Yep. What’s gonna stop Fatty Mcfat driving from Beaumont Leys to the McDonald’s in Shelthorpe because they can’t go without a Maccies for two more weeks.
