Here's a genuine question about BR.

 

With all our squad fit, do you think he knows what our best team, formation and tactics (including substitution options) are? Obviously the subs will depend on the game but I mean whether he has the capability to make the right decision in that respect.

If he started claiming that we are now part of the top 6/7 and will be competing with the likes of Manchester United he'd be called deluded.

 

I think he changed his tone towards the end of the season to try and relieve some of the pressure and paint us as underdogs.

 

He's not a fraud. He's not perfect and we hope he'll learn from this season, but I can't stand fans that label managers frauds the minute things start to go badly.

I'd not seen that but agree with your train of thought. It's as if he's merely protecting his own media darling 'professor of the game' persona. It's like a veiled 'I can only do so much with what I've got here, if I had a lot more money at a big club I'd be like Klopp and Guadiola'.

 

It's never ever going to be him, it's always going to be the fault of the players quality or attitude or lack of financial investment. He's already subliminally in people's heads set out an argument for failure by virtually predicting it.

 

For me such inane public utterance also gives out the wrong signal to our young up and coming talent. It suggests that the only way that they will succeed and win honours is by leaving like Maguire to join a 'big' club. Whilst there is undoubtedly some truth in that, surely the message, confidence and aim should be more that we are on a journey to be one of the big boys like Borussia Dortmund  merely trying to get there by a different route. This club has already achieved the supposed impossible.

We shouldn't even talk about sacking Brendan. Who else could bring us up to 5th in the best league in the world.

We had a good season. But I wish Brendan would be a bit more honest. Of course we can't compete with the likes of ManU (yet).

But what about Watford, Brighton and Bournemouth? With all due respect  these are the teams we should be brushing aside.

Had we just done that....it would have been an amazing season. Fine margins.

We can go two ways this summer.

 

Sack Rodgers and go back to meandering in mid table with some clueless muppet like Puel again or we can take a nice big break, lick our wounds, back the manager and the team with solid additions and go and make a real fist of European football.

 

Manchester United went and bought a world class midfielder in January whereas we could only get Ryan Bennett on loan despite being comfortably in the top 4.

 

I'm very confident that if we keep our squad together and add to it that we can only improve. This is a young squad that is hitting a good age now of around 24/25. They'll all be devastated that they haven't got into the top 4 and they'll want to put that right.

 

Back Rodgers, give him money to spend on quality additions to the team (not just filling out the squad) and lets go again in a month and a half's time.

Everyone, is in fact furious that we let a 14 point lead slip. It wasn't down to injuries (which obviously haven't helped), but down to our own mental inability to win those games which we should've. 

 

Poor tactical decisions along with poor player performances have really cost us.

He has done a good job. And to be honest I think quite a few would be happier if his attitude towards the collapse had been a bit more stomachable. 

 

I also think a lot of people are worried the good job he has done is not sustainable next season.

This is what worries me. 

Brendan seems very thin-skinned to me. Compared to someone like Wilder for instance,  he's too concerned about appearing in the right all the time. As you say his narrative changed totally when it became clear (some time ago) that we were going to spunk the CL.

Suddenly it was all about what a great season we'd had however it ended up how we were a young squad - how we needed to learn (that classic cop-out) etc etc.  Rather than the boot up the arse that the team so patently needed. 

I still think we can progress under him, as long as his self-regard and tendency to over-think what is basically a simple game don't get in the way. 

I wish him well - I think we all do - but he needs to get over himself a bit.

The danger of him talking us down in his interviews are that the likes of Ricardo and Wilf etc will want moves to more ambitious clubs. If 5th is our ceiling we can't keep hold of these kind of players

Yeah we definitely threw away a huge opportunity. Let’s hope this spurs the lads on (much like the Watford play off moment did) for next season. I’m pessimistic about that though. 
 

In terms of top 4 I agree - Chelsea, City, United, Liverpool will push on now. But we can definitely break the top 6, personally I see Tottenham stagnating soon if i’m honest.

Comments like this from Rodgers make it very difficult for those in his court to defend him, like me. 
 

Yes, we can’t compete with United. I agree wholeheartedly. However, not only can we compete but should be able to overcome Norwich, Watford, Southampton, Brighton and Bournemouth. No pats on the back because those results were unacceptable Brendan. Not what you’re paid very handsomely to do. Get your heads out the clouds, we didn’t lose the position because we couldn’t compete with United it’s because we couldn’t compete with teams below us. You need to address that sharpish.

Selection and tactics spot on yesterday. 

 

it wasn't his fault that Hamza got caught in possession or that Kasper kicked a goal kick at Wilf's backside at Bournemouth.

 

What puzzles me is why he hasn't been able to deal, in six months, with the catastrophic loss of confidence following the Man City and Liverpool defeats in December. I am absolutely convinced that they took more out or our squad than any amount of injuries, suspensions or fatigue, and ultimately cost us the CL place.

Obviously this goes for any manager, but it seems particularly noticeable that his first priority is protecting his own reputation and advancing his own career prospects. Every manager wants to advance their career prospects, but he seems particularly careerist and concerned about how the end of the season reflects on him, rather than its ramifications for Leicester City.
