I can see Youri’s poor form continuing next season and surely Brendan will have to consider benching him. That won’t happen. Rodgers loves Tielemans. And to compare last season’s Soumare to Youri Tielemans is like comparing Dan Amartey to Ruben Dias I hope he improves tbf, either here or at Monaco. But I’m not getting overly excited about a nothing game tonight.

BKLFox Posted 20 July 2022 Posted 20 July 2022 Another classic forum analysis of player turns it on for a move and not a player understands the requirements. 1

Agree, something's not ticking with Tielemans game, will he become great again or same as last season

It’s amazing how much better he looked just by tracking back with purpose and playing with urgency. He looked like the player we thought we signed last summer. Maybe a bit giddy after 45 mins against champ opposition in pre season but he looked like the combination of ndidi and tielemans he’s been said to be and hopefully we will see more of it if he’s sticking around and not off to Monaco!
Collymore Posted 20 July 2022 Posted 20 July 2022 Last time I saw him play this well was last preseason! 1
lgfualol Posted 20 July 2022 Posted 20 July 2022 Would be great if he stays and plays like that every game, reminded me of that Europa game when he was on top form. 1
Vardinio'sCat Posted 20 July 2022 Posted 20 July 2022 Did well, and showed his progressive passing chops a good few times.
cruzFOX Posted 21 July 2022 Posted 21 July 2022 Wow I had to slap myself as I couldn’t believe how well he was playing. Confident, dominant and pressing with urgency and intensity both in attack and defence. has Rogers finally done his job? surely we can’t sell him now to Monaco on the Cheap?

Perhaps Monaco had representatives there to watch him? Either way we need to cash in. We can’t improve the squad without shifting players out. He’s far too inconsistent and if we can’t get £20m for him then that’s a bonus.

Lambert09 Posted 21 July 2022 Posted 21 July 2022 I think it’s worth noting that he was clearly playing in what brendan sees at the starting 11. Surely that means Brendan’s thinking about keeping him?

Surely that means Brendan’s thinking about keeping him? What makes you think that was the starting 11. I think it’s just 2 groups of players at different stages of preseason. The funny thing for us is, the first half team were full of internationals who played the extra games and then had the extra break - Soyuncu, Vestergaard, Thomas, Castagne, Tielemans, Praet, Amartey, Mendy, Daka. Where as the second half team only had Evans who played any international football Justin a little bit too.

Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 21 July 2022 Posted 21 July 2022 I watched the highlights of the Hull game and Soumare looked a lot leaner than last season, and perhaps more effective as a result. I really think we should give him another go, if he wants to stay of course (which he reportedly doesn’t).
taupe Posted 21 July 2022 Posted 21 July 2022 I think we all want players to do well when they join the club, feel settled and part of the team, enjoy their football etc. We've seen some talented players come and, for whatever reason, not click with us and be in their way again. There's always a 'footballer in there', it's more whether the environment is right for them. Waffle aside, cut to the chase... Imho, Soumare is not working out. Again, for whatever reason. He's obviously talented, and that surging run was maybe indicative of why we were interested in him and what he can bring to the team - but I don't think we have, in our current position, the luxury of time. The time to see if he settles in, and the time to see if he can deliver consistently. The club need to shift players (both for money and to free up places). Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately from his pov) the stars have aligned in such a manner as to make it (perhaps mutually) beneficial for him to move on. It'd be a move to tick a number of boxes, and some of them not related to him personally.
funkyrobot Posted 21 July 2022 Posted 21 July 2022 He played well last night. Assuming his imminent departure links are true, his sudden form is perhaps because he knows he’s going back to Ligue1. Maybe the stress/pressure he’s had playing in the Uk in the Prem has been released and he was back able to enjoy his football. 🤷🏻♂️ 1
Tanya Posted 21 July 2022 Posted 21 July 2022 One good performance doesn't sway me. We have a good offer on the table, the player wants to go, goodbye and good luck. 3
Popular Post Sly Posted 21 July 2022 Popular Post Posted 21 July 2022 As Wenger wrote in his book. Sometimes, players just need time to settle in and embrace the culture, surroundings and build friendships. Most players won’t hit the ground running. Shoulders back, go smash it Bouba! 5
Popular Post ALC Fox Posted 21 July 2022 Popular Post Posted 21 July 2022 His performance last night and in pre-season 2021 showed there's a player there. Perhaps last night was because of (a) the level of opposition, (b) the knowledge he's close to a move back to France (technically a different country in Monaco but whatever), or (c) both. However, I'd love it if he could overcome his problems and be an asset here. I'm just willing the guy on. He can be energetic. He can be powerful. He can show skill and a deftness of touch. I'd love it if he can do that here. 5
