Max Power Posted 27 September 2020 Posted 27 September 2020 We obviously lose a lot of the defensive power of Ndidi but Mendy does offer great composure on the ball that adds a slightly different dimension. Delighted for him and delighted we gave him a new deal. Class today. 2
EverybodyDannsNow Posted 27 September 2020 Posted 27 September 2020 There’s no doubt in my mind that a fully fit Ndidi walks straight into the team but Mendy certainly gives us something that Wilf doesn’t. Mendy has a better first touch and seems to use his low centre of gravity to hold the ball in tight situations. Losing Wilf for 3 months is a huge blow but perhaps not season defining as many thought, as long as Mendy keeps this up. 1
tsintskaro Posted 27 September 2020 Posted 27 September 2020 He finally got confident and made that turn.he never did things like that before 2

As much as this looks aesthetically classy, it's actually a lot more than just flash. Rodgers talked a lot about having to beat their press and this right here is exactly what that means. I wouldn't pick Mendy over a fit Ndidi any day of the week, doubt many would, but in fairness Wilf would have probably panicked and lost the ball there. That's a really good press from Man City, for all the world it looks like they're about to win the ball back and be in three or four on three. That touch and the presence of mind to recognise it and the speed of thought to pull it off is absolutely superb and probably both saves us conceding and creates the goal in one moment. Really top performance. Little, tiny moments like that in games are what makes top sides, it's the difference between being an average journeyman and a quality player. In fairness, it's easy to forget the guy played over a hundred games for a pretty tidy Nice team and was signed by us as reigning champions on some merit. He had a really tough time with injuries but he's shown a lot of quality so far this season, credit where it's due. I was underwhelmed when we extended his contract but he's been great value for it so far. Edited 27 September 2020 by Finnegan 20
Wizerud Posted 27 September 2020 Posted 27 September 2020 I always believed in him but it is nice to be reminded that he was signed as a direct replacement to Kante. Today his performance was in that category. N’Didi will come back in as soon as he is fit but it might not be Mendy he replaces if Papy can keep this up. Rodgers is getting the best out of him. Let’s keep expectations realistic though...he’s going to make mistakes here and there - it’s inherent for the position he plays.

Kinowe Soorie Posted 27 September 2020 Posted 27 September 2020 His best game so far for us. Absolutely fantastic performance!
Popular Post LCFCABC Posted 27 September 2020 Popular Post Posted 27 September 2020 (edited) Rodgers need to take some credit here for the way he's obviously worked with Mendy over the summer. Mendy looks fitter and looks to be understanding exactly what is being asked of him. Just need Rodgers to sort out Barnes's finishing and we'll be one hell of a side!!! Manwell Pablo Posted 27 September 2020 Posted 27 September 2020 You are quiet @deanolegend1989 Not bad for a league one player. 1

Finn Claw II Posted 27 September 2020 Posted 27 September 2020 You can see why Choudrey is being kept out the team. Tielemans Mendy Praet and Barnes look really comfortable on the ball. Great to watch

That_Dude Posted 27 September 2020 Posted 27 September 2020 (edited) Just astonished by what he's showing for a player who was by all means deemed to be a surplus of requirement at the end of the last season. Really chuffed for him and long may it continue. Edited 27 September 2020 by That_Dude
srex9 Posted 27 September 2020 Posted 27 September 2020 It's too easy to write players off these days. Normally only takes a game or two. This guy has been constantly injured but is now showing why we signed him in the first place. Fair play to him.
Foxymcoxy Posted 27 September 2020 Posted 27 September 2020 Always knew he was good but didn't really expect him to get the chance to show it here. Love to see it, our midfield options are quite strong with all fit! 1
Vardinio'sCat Posted 27 September 2020 Posted 27 September 2020 He was on the fringes of the French squad when we signed him, and we should remember he played well under Puel, even if his partners didn't really complement him. He is a totally different type of CDM to Wilf, which I think has tended to blind us to his obvious qualities. You can tell that our players trust him with the ball 1
Popular Post UpTheLeagueFox Posted 27 September 2020 Popular Post Posted 27 September 2020 Feels like a new signing. (Which it kind of is.) 7

I think that worked yesterday far better than including wilf would have done. But then there's no way you don't have wilf in a 4141 setup. Options.
Ric Flair Posted 28 September 2020 Posted 28 September 2020 What a player he is turning in to in the Rodgers machine. I said signing him to a new deal could be the most important business we do in 2020 and you just hope he stays fit as he is integral. My MoTM with Tielemans yesterday, cannot separate them as they worked like mad men together. That perfect blend of remaining compact and then using their movement and footballing brain to play through Man City up to Vardy and Barnes. 1
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 28 September 2020 Posted 28 September 2020 Sensational performance from him yesterday, really pleased
Ian Nacho Posted 28 September 2020 Posted 28 September 2020 Mendy definitely offers something different to N’Didi. Not up in the faces of opponents as Wilf but much much cooler on the ball. Top player.
