Another big thing - We actually won a close game.

 

Was the effective reserves winning 2-1 at West Ham the last time we won by a single goal in the Prem? Before that think it was the Everton 2-1 game last December. Only other time we’ve won close games was in the cup against Brentford and Birmingham.

Let’s be honest for the most part that was horrible to watch but the plan worked . But winning ugly is better then losing . First time we’ve won there since the 70’s so all good .

the game changed when luiz went off '' their sweeper'' mustafi came on and Vardy came on and rodgers woke up and realised they were their for the taking after the game was still 0-0.

 

I want to see the system in the last 30 minutes from the start next time

Passing was soo much better second half . We couldn’t pass two yards.

They became frustrated.

Game got stretched.

Finally twisted with two attackers.

Just need to find balance over Weaker teams .

I love this football team. And I love FT and everyone who cares about this team. I was bereft at half time. I was anti-Rodgers. I knew he had a plan, but I didn't like the cut of its jib. But when you have Jamie Vardy (and Under) you can do what the absolute **** you like.

That little ball to Under just shows how good this kid will be, he showed that Arseholenal back line a clean pair of heels before providing that assist. Magical stuff.

I think @StriderHiryu is one of the main people that would appreciate the tactical nous of what we did in that 2nd half. 

Our tactics became fairly inter-changeable in the 2nd half. I'm sure he can provide the graphics in good time  

 

Maddison went to the left, Barnes went in the middle to support Vardy a little, Mendy and Youri started finding a bit of extra space in the middle, even Castagne could get up a bit more. And then when Under came on it totally changed our mindset and perhaps belief grew that we could sneak something. It actually surprised me a bit that Arsenal reacted so slowly to our changes - maybe that's Arteta's naivety as a manager to not spot it? It just needed that one perfect pass and Youri provided it. Under found in acres of space, as was Vardy. Not an Arsenal defender in sight within 10 yards of Vardy? Even in totally different game scenarios Vardy rarely gets that much time!

 

 

As much as Vardy and Under and Youri will get the plaudits for the goal, I think the defence really deserve some credit. Given a job, stuck to it. All the centre-backs to get close to the strikers. Don't give Aubameyang, Lacazette, Saka, Pepe, Nketiah barely given an inch to run in to or work their slick, quick passing they're usually famed for. We did ride our luck a bit when Lacazette missed an open goal and their offside goal, but it's the performance that made us deserve it. Fofana was class, very composed on the ball and aerially dominant, bonus that he would fancy a run up the wing like Soyuncu would at times . 

 

Fuchs, for all his ageing years and lack of regular game time, properly stepped up today as well. 

 

Tielemans and Mendy were very good. Up against a midfield that would pressure them a lot, especially in the first half. Perhaps they didn't perform that greatly in the first half because of that but 2nd half they did play with a bit more confidence and freedom. 

 

Said it a few times tonight but it wasn't pretty in any way (apart from the goal), but it was 100% effective. Rodgers and the whole team deserve the plaudits they get for pulling it off

Vardy’s runs are just amazing. He slowed his run to make it loads of space for Under to pass. Under definitively did not intend to pass it on the ground. He hit it when the ball was in the air. He knew he just needed to get the ball in the path of Vardy - he just needed to get the angle and the weight correct and not to overhit it. 

In the first 10 minutes of the second we had the pass that Praet messed up after intercepting, Tielemans had the chance to put Justin in on the left but went straight to defenders and Barnes was running at the defence a bit more. Ok, not great opportunities by any means but there were definite signs of improvement and we winning the ball further up the pitch. 

 

We were negative, without a doubt but I do think throughout the second half we were more positive with our defensive work if that makes sense.

 

Helped that Luiz went off because there was very little distribution from the Arsenal defence after that.

Great win, great cross, and of course Vards!!

We have made 2 great signings for the defence. Fofana looks amazing. So nice to see our central defender comfortable and competent. Love Big Wes, but, he looked as if the ball was a bomb at times.

I have good vibes about Chango. Once he settles in, I think he will be the dogs!

JJ is getting great experience, and won't make my stomach turn when he has to step in...., and when we have Timmy and Ricardo fit, I will give Hunter Biden a run for his money.
