Liverpool made no mistakes in that game really, apart from hitting the post 9 times instead of scoring. That's a big part of why they're one of the best teams in the world. But I do agree that it's frustrating with the ' keep them out for sixty minutes and then nick a goal ' philosophy. We clearly have players that can compete, so go do it.

Frustrating not to be given the stone wall penalty but ultimately, it would have served no more than a consolation goal. Tielemans, Evans, Barnes, Albrighton & Maddison all extremely poor tonight. That said, Liverpool still put out a strong team and made us look like Fulham.

 

Disappointing to lose the way we did but this is Liverpool and many other teams, better than us, will suffer a similar fate to them. Take it on the chin and go again.

I'd like to retract my comments from half time when I said I didn't think Rodgers had done much wrong in the game plan. My biggest criticism of him is when we are comfortably losing and he doesn't make any changes. As soon as I saw we were the same set up and personnel when they came out for the 2nd half I knew we'd barely create another clear cut opportunity. Seen it several times from him and I think it's his biggest weakness and one of only a few he is yet to work on.

 

Albrighton was disgustingly bad tonight, how did he stay on and remove the pace of Barnes. Or at least get Iheanacho on as well? At 2/3 down and we refuse to have more than 1 striker and 1 attacking pacey winger on the pitch? That's not acceptable and we deserved nothing.

 

Big wake up call again tonight, hope they don't collapse. I'm confident we won't, Castagne and Ricardo coming back couldn't be more welcome. Albrighton ought to be out of the squad for a while after that, was one of the worst individual performances I've seen in a long while and he's had 2-3 now against Liverpool over the years.

 

James Justin was our only good player tonight, very impressed. A back 3 of Fuchs, Fofana and Justin right now is our best defence.

I don't think it was a lack of trying I think Liverpool made it look like that. They suffocated us and gave us no time or space which made it impossible to do anything.

This result can be put to one side provided we win the next 2 to put us back on track. No one thought we were serious title challengers.  However, we are top 6 challengers again and we need to consistently beat the smaller sides if we are going to freeze and roll over for the bigger sides

Can’t count the amount of times an attempt to pass or shoot was blocked by the first man. We were outclassed massively, player through to manager

Poor performance. Gave them too much respect from the start and we were too sloppy in possession. Mane had Fofana on toast.

Not too upset, this match confirmed.my belief that we are probably are over excelling and have been put into our place by a better team.

 

But it was a poor team performance today.

After a game like that just need to zoom out, learn and move forwards. 

 

We won't play teams like that every week and I think we will learn how to improve based on how they tactically nullified us (taking Barnes out of the game/targeting Albrighton etc) and attacked us with intensity.

Shown them too much respect when to stand a chance against Liverpool you have to match the press.

And what is it with Albrighton just constantly whipping it in to nobody. From those types of crossing we will score about 2 times out of 100 crosses.

Ouch. Not quite as devastating as boxing day but just as clear an indication that we're some way off the top!

 

Not sure anyone came out of that with any credit. Justin perhaps at a push. The rest were noticeable either by their lack of focus, energy, quality or by simply going missing for 60/90 mins.

Liverpool weren’t to good?  they could of easily had a few more. We played so poor because of the intensity they play at and we couldn’t handle it. Sometimes you just have to accept that we were beaten by the better team.

That performance looked like nobody at the club believed we could get anything from the game.  Outplayed and outfought from the first to last minute.  Can understand them setting up as they did as it's proved to have worked previously. But this time they looked to be going through the motions and didn't control the game without the ball. They got at us too easily with Barnes and Maddison in the wide positions and the back line looked jittery because of it. International break didn't do us any favours and other minor mitigating circumstances but a big lesson learned hopefully.
