Haywood_6 Posted 4 August 2020 Share Posted 4 August 2020 This is the kind of transfer target that makes you sit up and take notice. Loads of potential, and we would be an ideal club for him to develop at. Hope we can do a deal and it's not just a cock tease.

They signed him for circa £30 million in January, so why would they agree to a 2 year loan deal where the buy value at the end is only £45 million? The only way I can see that as right is if we are giving them a big loan fee at the start of each season to boost the numbers up. If we get him, there’s no way it’s for the current figures being reported. Because it's a guaranteed £15m profit. They might not get the money from us now, but they can borrow against the obligation without any problems at all knowing the money is there in two years.

Capable on either wing Francisco could suit any system either cutting in from the right or hugging the line from the left. The wonderkids starting stats first drew me in, you could get some good game time out of this kid from the off. In my test save Trincao became a technical masterclass; he can cross, dribble, control the ball, shoot from range and pass. Add flair, vision and all round athleticism for a cracking wing man. Those stats from 2022-2026 with Hoffenheim say it all, 37 goals and 35 assists from 114 games. Trincao was involved in a goal more than every other game. Sign him for less than £2 million and watch that value increase to £60 million plus, hes a money making machine. 1

But being ambitious is certainly not to be discouraged, so it's nice that we've been credibly reported to make the effort. Me, I think Brooks is much more realistic and I'd be pretty satisfied with that, but it doesn't hurt to dream.

He sounds amazing but I am so worried about getting my hopes up.... I put this in another thread: In my opinion (and I know many others are in this camp), the issue is we never truly replaced Mahrez, and instead spent his fee on Maddison. Maddison is creative but a central player, so it took away one of the best attacking threats in our team. Puel clearly believed in Gray, so that's why we signed Ghezzal; the idea being that Gray would develop into our first team Mahrez replacement and Ghezzal would be an experienced player in Puel's 4231 system that could be trusted to do a job when called upon. Of course neither one worked out. This season we went for Perez, but he's not really a wide player and as we've seen is way more effective when playing centrally behind one or two strikers. What do we want? A left footed right sided forward that can score and assist 10 times each+ per season. Who could that be? We were linked with Steven Bergwijn in January but Spurs beat us to his signature. Bergwijn was bang on the money for what we were looking for, a Dutch international, had won titles in Holland with PSV and had great stats for goals and assists, even if in a weaker league. He's also the right side of 25. For this position we can't go for potential. We already have Barnes and Gray (though now at 24 that potential is fading all the time) for up and comers. For me I'd love to see a 30-40m player with proven international and / or European pedigree come in to start in the first team in that position to hit the ground running right away. The players do exist, but convincing them to sign is harder to do without Champions league football and harder still with the pandemic making big spends far riskier. If we look at Trincao then you'd have to say he still falls into the "potential" camp rather than the "proven ability" camp. BUT being signed by Barcelona, finishing 3rd this season in Portugal after having a great season and having played European football could make a convincing argument for him being somewhat proven. He's not as proven as say Bergwijn, Memphis Depay or Quincy Promes, but has more potential than all of those players. In terms of the type of player and numbers we are after... he's close to the mark. Would he improve the team? It depends if he can adapt to the league and our system quickly. But given his technique and physicality I'd be surprised if he didn't. I've not seen a full match of him play but have seen extended match highlights involving him and he is very good. Like previous posters have mentioned, I feel like this is the sort of deal we'd usually never be able to do but because of the Pandemic have a chance to do. I think the problem is other Premier League sides will be after him so think this is quite far from being over the line. For me the pleasing thing about the news is that he's exactly the type of player we desperately need - a true heir to Riyad Mahrez. So in some ways if we get him or not is irrelevant, it means we are trying to recruit for that position, and that's great news. Pliskin Posted 4 August 2020 Share Posted 4 August 2020 It's a very odd situation.... Unless Barca have decided they don't want him and could do with some cash due to covid. There must be something in it as the club surely wouldn't be daft enough to make a bid for a player who's barely had a chance to try on his new clubs kit I wonder what the situation is.... SheppyFox Posted 4 August 2020 Share Posted 4 August 2020 I know you get the usual ‘FM’ comments from lads that pretend they know what they’re talking about and like to suggest they’ve actually got credible managerial experience, but fairly often it’s actually accurate. Mendes rocks up, asks them to buy his client, takes a massive chunk of the fee, guarantees they'll make a profit when he moves him on in the summer. Touts him to Leicester, Wolves, Everton, West Ham and/or any other club that'll lump an extra 10-20m on top of what Barca paid. Mendes takes another cut. Barca and Mendes make money out of literally nothing. Especially if Braga were still paying a chunk of his wages to keep him on loan?

I don't know, the ability to flip an asset in under 8 months to make profit on it is pretty hard to pass up. Lets say you buy a house for 150K which you really like living in, but 8 months later someone offers you 250K for the same house... You'd take that offer even if you ended up living somewhere else that wasn't as good. Barcelona have Messi, Suarez, Dembele, Griezman, their new superstar Ansu Fati, etc. It's not like they don't have options up top! This guy was always one for the future for them, whereas for us he would be first team. Edited 4 August 2020 by StriderHiryu
