A single relegation to the Championship is absolutely pointless - they'll mullah the division and have spent a year in the wilderness as penance before they carry on with the big boys.

 

In light of the clear assertions made by the PL today and the staggering sums of money involved here, a demotion from the Football League itself and a new start in the National League feels about right. The fans get to keep their club and the club get the punishment they deserve.

There will be massive backlash when they annouce the most modest punishment. Clubs may go against sticking to psr rules. Whats the point having it when certain clubs break the rules and dont get punished.

I wonder if there's precedent to issue point deductions spanning a number of years that either have to be handed down by the EFL (as the period relates to previous the rule change to explicitly allow that it might then have to be effective each time they return to the PL. So at best they get relegated every time they come back to the PL for x amount of years. Wonder how else it could be treated.
