Jazzy_Jeff Posted 5 November 2019 Posted 5 November 2019 The problem with replacing vardy isn’t just finding someone quick who can finish. its his aggression, desire, work rate and unselfishness which will be the hardest to replace (shit housery aside) he looks after himself so can see him going for a couple of seasons after this. after that god knows - he’s so vital to us
Guest An Sionnach Posted 5 November 2019 Posted 5 November 2019 To be fair he is nearly six years younger than Ibrahimovic and Totti and Romario were still banging them in at 40 so if they can do it so can he . Its the games he misses that I worry about potential victories that end up as draws can be very damaging if you want to be top six regulars.
General Smuts Posted 5 November 2019 Posted 5 November 2019 Some other potential names to look into as they are out of contract in the summer: Boubakary Soumare (Lille) Angel Gomes (Manure) Layvin Kurzawa (PSG) Benjamin Stambouli (Schalke) As for Vardy's replacement - I like Donyell Malen at PSV but not sure how realistic that is.

jim5000 Posted 5 November 2019 Posted 5 November 2019 We could probably do with a couple more central midfielders

Wages no problem Game time no problem Lure of premier league no problem Possible Europe next season. Fantastic state of the art training facility To play in a young team full of potential. I think there is more chance of buying these young wonderkids etc now than ever before. Even if you dont want to admit it for some strange reason, Leicester is a huge opportunity for players to come to and also a very attractive career choice Never going to match the likes of MCFC/MUFC for wages until we have been in CL for a couple of seasons. As soon as you start bringing in players on big money you risk breaking the wage structure and that's when the cracks start to appear in the squad dynamic that is so deep rooted at our club at the minute. Yes the senior players like Vardy and Kasper will be on the best money, that's only natural, but once people start turning the youngsters heads with silly money offers we cannot (or rather should not) even consider trying to compete. At the moment can we really promise enough game time? Again there is the risk of damaging the quad dynamic, especially if you have a settled side with everyone playing well (look what happened when we brought in Slimani and put Ulloas nose out of joint, he was a very popular player within the squad). Otherwise, I agree with what you are saying. Youri came here on loan, knew he would be an important part of our team, bought into the project and felt the love, which is why he ultimately chose us on a permanent basis. I can easily see other young players looking at that signing and asking themselves if they could do the same. Ok they may see us as a stepping stone initially, but if we achieve sustainable success they could well decide that there are worse places to ply their trade. Plus if we continue with our current excellent recruitment record and ability to attract these young players, then we can afford to let one or two go and rotate onto the next ones, making a few quid in the process.

We still have Daniel Amarty as cover. I was hoping for that too, I'd take a homegrown talent over anyone else any day. Unfortunately it doesn't look like any of them lot are going to make it to the standard we're now at. Imo the one with the best chance is Josh Knight but he's found himself playing as a box to box midfielder on the right of a midfield diamond for Peterborough. I'm not sure what position he'll play when he comes back. As for Amartey, I actually quite like him, probably more than the average Leicester fan, but if you replaced Evans or Soyuncu with him I'd probably have a panic attack mid-game. I think Amartey is a player that we've outgrown as a club. If we stayed bottom half just staying in the league he'd probably be a solid player for us but with the way we've progressed he's no longer anywhere near the standard of the rest of our team. I think it's best for all parties that he moves on.
lcfc sheff Posted 5 November 2019 Posted 5 November 2019 Realistically it’s just a CB we need. Reassess in the summer. i would love some experienced player on a short term deal but unsure of whom.
holyfox Posted 5 November 2019 Posted 5 November 2019 Apologies if the name had already come up, but watching Aaron Connelly of Brighton reminded me of Vardy. He chases everything down and has a finish on him. Still young, so scope to develop too under Vardy. Thoughts?

Even if you dont want to admit it for some strange reason, Leicester is a huge opportunity for players to come to and also a very attractive career choice Ah yes, Tielemans who came here knowing he was guaranteed starting time every week is comparable to a talent even hotter than him coming here to play backup striker for a couple years. Young players come here for the Premier League, gametime and because our club is well run. It's those three things in tandem that work in our favour.
Gerard Posted 5 November 2019 Posted 5 November 2019 If we get a player who is being offered £200k a week elsewhere then we move them on for an £80m+ fee. No shame in that and it's pointless trying to hold onto these players when the big money offers come. Clubs like Dortmund have operated like that for years and it's done them little harm. The key is to bank the money, move on and keep getting your scouting right more often than not. Hopefully at some point you do it often enough and keep competing for a CL spot until you generate enough money in sponsorship and prize money that you at the very least become the biggest club outside the elite.
Fox1970 Posted 5 November 2019 Posted 5 November 2019 Filbert Fox to run on the pitch in just a blue thong every time we score. The thong comes off for five goals in one game.

gurru991 Posted 5 November 2019 Posted 5 November 2019 Good young players will want to come to Leicester because they know that Brendan will play them if they are good enough. I think we should be shopping in the Championship for players & would like to see Jarod Bowen and/or Karlan Grant join us. I'm not sure why Benkovic is not on the bench & why Kristoffer Ajer is a target.

Vardy’s style has changed significantly since 2016 season as as our team philosophy. He’s no longer just a lightening fast terrier Pressing the back line. He’s so much more now, and as a result our style is too. With the possession based game and our quick movement of the ball (but still tend to be grounded balls rather than a direct ball over the top ala 2016) why couldn’t natcho step up. We know the lad can finish, we have seen it as a 19/20 year old. His movement isn’t terrible and I do think with the right support from the staff and fans he could produce. We know we have a one in a billion in Vardy and long me the kings reign continue, but let’s hold out hope that if Natcho is required to step up he will take his chance. He is low on confidence at the minute but rumours floating around the ground is that he’s consistently performing in training. I will I’ll admit I have just flogged him on FM20 for less than 17,000,000. I had the exact same thought the other day. Nacho's main strength is his finishing. He was knocking them in for fun at Man City, and that was because of the quality of the supply he was getting. We now have a midfield with talent coming out of its arse, and I'm sure Nacho could end up enjoying despatching chances served to him on a plate given a run in the team. Vardy is my favourite player ever. He's a living legend, and we all know that replacing him is no mean feat. However, I don't believe we are totally fuched when he's unavailable. Under Rodgers' guidance, I can see any one of Nacho, Perez or Gray (maybe even Barnes) stepping in and doing a decent job - partly because the service they will get will be good, and partly because I believe Brendan knows how to get the best out of his players. I'd written Gray off ages ago. I was convinced he was never going to develop past the decent player we signed years ago, but there are clear signs lately that he is learning at last. If BR can get a tune out of Gray, then I've got no reason to doubt he can get Ian firing, as well. It must be difficult being Vardy's reserve - you never get a run of games to build fitness and form, and you know you're not going to end up displacing him when he's available again. There are players that are ideal supersubs, though. If BR can turn Nacho into one, which I think is plausible, then we've solved a big puzzle in our attack. Signing a striker to be another Vardy understudy could easily be a waste of time and money. As for what I'd do in the transfer window - I wouldn't touch the first XI. I'd have one eye on next season and the likely continental tour. The squad will need a bit more depth. I wouldn't do too much in Jan, but I'd try to get in 2 or 3 young players in our weakest areas, or areas where players most likely to leave are. If, say, Maddison has to go in the summer, then it'd be great to have his replacement already bedded in a la Maguire/Soyuncu. I'd mainly be looking for a centre-half and another no.8/no.10. Maybe also a left back if this is Fuchs' last season. A CB because Wes is getting no younger, and I've got no idea if Benkovic is ready to step in. A creative CM, because if you try to make a 2nd XI in 4-1-4-1, who plays next to Praet? That's the only position that's empty. Goes to show how desperate for creativity our midfield was. Even after getting Tielemans and Praet in the summer, there's still very little depth.

MC Prussian Posted 6 November 2019 Posted 6 November 2019 Our centre-back situation at present does not warrant much change. At least not for another year. Morgan undoubtedly will want to end his career sooner than later and move into management at the club (teaming up with Kolo Touré should be fun). Is Benkovic that good? Maybe a loan would do him the best in order to find back into the swing of things. It's true that the old adage of "never change a winning team still applies. Maybe at some stage, Evans will move to be more of a substitute (à la Wes Morgan)? As potential CB candidates, may I suggest Nico Elvedi (Gladbach) Fabian Schär (Newcastle) Pau Torres (Villarreal - one for the future) Axel Disasi (Reims - one for the future) Jeffrey Bruma (welcome back ) or John Brooks (Wolfsburg) Diego Llorente (Real Sociedad - as mentioned in the other thread) And we'll need another left-back soon, as well - with Fuchs leaving, that leaves a gap. Elvedi can also play as a full-back. The question here is not to upset Chilwell in any way, not sure we could and should and would go for a full-back as young and talented as him, but I suppose he could use some competition. A more experienced player with some pedigree that would accept playing second fiddle, if you know what I mean: Thomas Delaine (Metz) Jonas Hector (Köln) Frank Fabra (Boca Juniors) Ryan Bertrand Milton Casco (River Plate) Aaron Cresswell
